Many mainstream British singers purposely sing with an American accent since The United States' music industry is so influential worldwide. Yes, Ella Mai does that as well. Singers like Adele, Sam Smith & Birdy don't; so the concept that everyone has a "neutral accent" which happens to sound American when they sing is false.

But British people do sing with a neutral accent. I'm not a singer but if I was to sing along to the radio or around the house I wouldn't sound how I speak. It's not me trying to sound American (for what?), the accent just doesn't come out when singing. That's just the way it is. It's too much effort to consciously force yourself to sing in a different accent everytime you speak. Notice in the video when she said "bitter" it sounded very British, then when she sang it the accent went away...that isn't pre-meditated dude.
