LJ It makes sense in value but in all over the other regards you mentioned the Audi is as good or better but then it should be too, don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to drive the Mazda, they've done a good job with the CX9 but the Audi is in a more luxury market segment an it shows
NZsarge1 technology and comfort are actually extremely similar between these two. Interior quality as well. For Audi you'd practically be paying for a stronger engine, and undoubtably a more recognizable brand name. Pretty much.
Josh The dude There much more going on in the Audi than might seem so on face value, there's a higher degree of engineering right down to the smallest details, if you spend a decent amount of time in any Audi these days you'll come to appreciate all the small touches along with all bigger more obvious ones.
the rear of the cx-9 does have 2 high power charging ports in the arm rest, full climate controls. plus when compared to Audi quattro which is a permanent AWD system, the cx-9 is a one of a kind predictable AWD, The turbo system in the cx-9 is also one of a kind and brand new design that puts out 310 ft lbs of torque at 2000 RPM, for reality driving, its all you need.
Forget price...actually a very unbiased review from a a Mazda Dealer. Excellent job! We just got an Audi Q7 premium + optioned out to max. Unfortunately, Bill Gates will have to show me how to "use" the car. My Wife loves it. V6 makes a huge difference....I would think the Mazda v. Volvo would be closer to apples to apples. Audi is introducing a 2.0 4 cylinder Q7 in the Spring. Nevertheless, this was an excellent video & Mazda looks terrific & the value prop on it probably blows any competitor away.
And the following episodes are Mazda CX-9 vs. Porsche Cayenne Mazda CX-9 vs. Mercedes-Benz G-Class Mazda CX-9 vs. Range Rover Mazda CX-9 vs. Bentley Bentayga
You are right. If it were possible to pile a load of cow excrement high enough slap on 4 wheels and an Audi badge some folks would still think it's better.
The 2016 CX9 is really difficult to compete with in terms of quality/styling for the price. Mazda really knocked it out of the park with that one. It's not perfect, but if it's any indication of where they are going, it's only so long before their cars start demanding a higher price.
I have to rescind my previous statement, I drove a CX9 the other day and it pissed me off, poor design meant the sides of my knees were constantly in contact with hard parts on the door and centre console which quickly became uncomfortable, that and it felt quite claustrophobic. The Audi is more comfortable and it feels positively cavernous inside in comparison
I drove both and I like Mazda much more than Audi, but if I had money for Audi, I would buy it anyway. It's all about your feelings. You drive Mazda and still thinking that some day your car will be Audi. Just because of the name of it. But I still have some years ahead and I would prefer Mazda to get pretty much the same quality and options for less money. And I love the torque of it's 4 cyl. It's fun! After all, who cares about the details under the hood. It just runs in any situation.
The CX-9 has improved drastically and should do well in the 3 row segment. It will fit most people's needs but for me I would rather have a Sorento. Similarly priced, just as equipped, best warranty and better styling (subjective). Oh and u still get that lovely panoramic sunroof in the Sorento..
Forrest Jones better than sorento but if cannot beat pilot or highlander or even maybe even explorer. Signature model doesn't even have rear heated seats or panoramic sunroof. Also you'll have to use premium fuel to get the 250hp. The third two is practically useless. It's a good try tho. The materials used in cx9 are really nice and leather looks decent.
I completely disagree about Kia quality. Completely disagree. We have owned 3 and they have been fantastic cars. Have a '15 Optima now with 45K on it. We've had a 1st Gen Sorento and a Rio for my lil sis. Longer warranty means they'll cover it for longer...how is that a bad thing? The Optima would already be out of warranty with just about any other mainstream manufacturer. Resale value..u have a point, but Kia isn't alone there.
I am a big fan of Kia and Huyndai. I owned several Kias and Huyndais (still own Sonata) and can say only good things about their quality and reliability. That said, I got CX9 signature, just because it is so much more fun to drive than Santa Fe or Sorento.
I think kias and hyundais are ok cars, with some issues on materials and construction, still behind mazda. I think mazda is the middle step between econo segment and entry level luxory cars (bmw, audi, mercedes, lexus and acura intro series), the problem is that from a mazda to a bimmer (lets say a 2.5 mazda to a 2.5 bimmer) there are more than 20k bucks, and thats a lot on todays economy, but from a 2.5 kia to a 2.5 mazda prices are very very close, so why stay into korean inferior craftmanship, materials and design if you can own something better for quite the same price?. About mazda cx 9 and audi q series, well, very different market segments, but again, i believe many ex audi owners would not matter goimg a couple of stairs down and saving serious money instead.
Before you go running your mouth about the Audi being better you should go and sit in the range topping CX 9. It's very nice and I wouldn't waste money on a German shitbox.
I have a 2009 Mazda6 with over 160,000 miles on it. I have been in about three car accidents with it and it still runs perfectly fine. I have not had to do any repairs at all(besides body work). I would gladly buy another Mazda. I have a 2016 Mazda CX5 as well and i get compliments on it almost everyday.
Yes if you have a pocket full of cash no doubt you'll buy an Audi not just for the badge but if you just want a value for money a bit of luxury and want to enjoy good driving with your kids, definitely Mazda is the right answer. I like the interior of the Audi it's more elegant but it cost a lot but the exterior design I prefer the Mazda it looks gorgeous.
Mazda, poors man bmw. Actually i own a mazda 3 grand touring 2016, i wanted a bmw but dont want to spend 20k more (ok, i cant) and the insurance was to high on the bimmer, apart from the service cost. The mazda if more than ok for me.
samuraifugitivo in Europe, italy i buy a Mazda 3 hatchback 2.2 diesel automatic full optional, cost 33.000 euro my previous car, buyed 3 years ago, was a BMW Series 1 hatchback (not sales in Usa) 2.0 diesel, same options cost 36.000 euro.... the price difference between Mazda and Audi Bmw and Mercedes is very small in Europe... where are you from?
MrStefano218 too much for a mazda in europe, you better get the bimmer there. I have paid 20000 us$ for the last m 3 gt 2016 of the dealers stock, thats near the half of what you have paid.
MrStefano218 MrStefano218 man, im not comparing, im only saying that i wanted a bmw 3 series, brand new (i never buy used, dont have good eye for that business) and the nearest thing i can afford was a mazda 3 gt sedan.
have u guys all noticed that once a mazda gets used past the 3 year mark, it just doenst look that good anymore, inside usually falls apart. compared that to audi, after 10 years the car still looks beautiful, inside is all in one piece. now that's the difference.
Having driven one, it can't effectively put power to the pavement without the front tires squealing! AWD is slow to kick in and cabin noise is quite loud!
Elisha Jesudason you must be talking about the Audi because we own the signature shown here with nearly 2000 miles and no squealing tires or loud cabin. Ours also cost $53k.
gotcoke795 not to mention Mazda has the worst resale value among all Japanese brands. The minute you drive it out of the dealer's lot, you've lost 20%.
No comparison! Yeah look who's duplicating the original style of Audi? Audi has been legendary for style and quality equipment. It's always easy to replicate but at the end of the day, you pay for quality and style. The Germans are the leader in making quality supreme automobiles. This Mazda had to go above and beyond to try compete with Audi. But you can't ever
Well, if you are willing to pay extra $20k for the brand name "Audi" it is your choice. For the rest of us who are actually interested in features and performance this review is useful.
bacurda You see that's the non car guy thinking. Just because it's an Audi doesn't mean that it can't compete with a Mazda. Those days are over brother.
The Mazda front... all I see is the Lexus spindle grill. Nice interior for a car that's not a luxury car for sure. But if I wanted Japanese luxury SUV... Lexus RX F Sport for sure. Love the edgy looks on that thing.
I'll take the Dodge Durango over both of these. For the price, the Durango is bigger, the 3rd row seating has PLENTY of room, it's luxurious and it's great on gas. This car has been nothing but reliable to me, love our Durango! Btw, there's no way I'm paying that much on a 4-cylinder vehicle, hell no!
No, just no. CX9 is for when you can't afford the Audi, BMW or Mercedes. The CX9 has real competitors to go against, some of which may even be better. So try and top that group first and then come for the luxury segment. Until then let's not pretend it's close, because it isn't.
Josh The dude It's not just about brand name. The quality is not the same, there is no comparison with these two. Just for example the VW version which is the Touareg is still miles better than the CX-9 in quality and equipment.
The Stulla King The Stulla King if you've sat inside a CX-9, you'd realize how well equipped it is, and the materials used for the interior are also really really good. You can tell cheap materials right off the bat when sitting inside the cabin. Audi's interior is always top-notch, so that's a no brainer. But Mazda actually hit the bulls eye with the CX, enough to compete with the Q within the interior design/quality aspect. Branding is a whole different story, can't compare them. Design & quality, is a much closer margin.
The Stulla King why ? now I buy a Mazda 3 hatchback 2.2 diesel full optional , cost 33.000 euro in Italy... previously I have a BMW Series 1 hatchback, buyed 3 years ago, 2.0 diesel, same options cost 35.000... the difference is ridicolous and, in general terms, for example for this Cx9 vs Audi, people love save money, and don't waste it... even if you can afford a Audi, if another brand is good quality enough you buy it and save money...
Shit awd system, no heated rear seats, no panoramic sunroof and a useless third row. Not to mention it requires premium fuel to get the 250hp it claims. Cx9 is overrated.
Audi Q7 is a hideous obese looking thing. the shape has no cohesive design. it's just lacking and for you to mention the Bentayga is actually a criticism. in this segment, the car has to look great foremost, then be comfortable, spacious etc. i'd go for a Range Rover
This comparison is pointless. You can compare the Mazda CX-09 with the Dodge Durango. Some of the CX09 shortcomings are: an unrefined 4 cylinder engine (compared to 4 cylinder engine in Volvo XC90), poor infotainment system, and inexplicable large centre console.
Rida Al Osman When I got into the Mazda my knees were immediately irritated by hard contact points which quickly became uncomfortable, a deal breaker on this alone, I only had a shortish drive and I was already fed up with those hard point. Disappointing piece of design in what is other a pretty nice vehicle
EcArR eCaRr Such ignorance, tell me more about how two SUVs regardless of its manufacturer is an apples-to-oranges comparison? Asian car market is catching up and doing some things much better. Reliability is through the roof. You buy a Euro car, have fun once it's topped 100,000km's. Gone are the days where you can't place a Mazda up against German metal.
The CX9 makes sense in terms of value, reliability, technology and comfort.
LJ Mazda isn't reliable fyi, Audi reliability is higher than Mazda proof in consumer reports
Josh The dude There much more going on in the Audi than might seem so on face value, there's a higher degree of engineering right down to the smallest details, if you spend a decent amount of time in any Audi these days you'll come to appreciate all the small touches along with all bigger more obvious ones.
LJ this is the same saying as seiko watch is better and more reliable then Rolex haha

i have mazda cx-9 2010 and i love this car super strong and big for my family
The Mazda is friggin' cool looking! Great fuel economy with a fast torque engine. Even Dads would look good driving this.

You are right. If it were possible to pile a load of cow excrement high enough slap on 4 wheels and an Audi badge some folks would still think it's better.
Mazda rules!!!
The ones who are shopping Audi will never even think about Mazda. But Mazda really stands out from Toyota and Honda.
The 2016 CX9 is really difficult to compete with in terms of quality/styling for the price. Mazda really knocked it out of the park with that one. It's not perfect, but if it's any indication of where they are going, it's only so long before their cars start demanding a higher price.
...wow! Mazda has really nailed it.
The mazda looks better inside and out.
agree, and you got a better car with much lower pricetag
Robert William u
bimosalexandres how much is it to lease the CX nine I is good Gleason price I would like you to get back to me
not true german luxury is unmatched.
also the mazda definitely ripped of the audi
i like the enthusiasm of the guy :)
If I had to drive the Mazda I wouldn't be mad about it but I'd choose the Q7

Weird comparison but tbh, the CX-9 Looks way better. This gen's Q7 looks so bad imo.
Do you have any idea when the 2018 CX 9 will be available? Where is that information available?
great video. Learned a lot! Thank you ... keep up with the good reviews!

Mazda is the Winner i have one is a Amazing Car Zooom😀
so then the question is: do you want to drive a Mazda or an Audi? I'd take the Audi!
I'd take the cx-9
I'll buy the cx9 thousand times over the unreliable Audi aka VW
Omg People fed dogmatic BS Just because it's Audi, doesn't mean it's the holy grail....
Give me your opinion, is the cx9 better than the q7?
Beautiful background.
Nice review. Kindly include more on dashboard review.
I dont know how mazda provides such value and quality with all their cars at such a low price...almost as if theyre cheating
Uncrowned you'll see the true value in a few years when the parts disintegrate in the Mazda, Mazda is trash!
gotcoke795 with ford yea, their new cars are durable as hell

mazda ripping off the german cars though. they going full chinese by copying and doing cheaper.
I would take the audi
Harper Wallace me too, if it's free, but not for 20 k more
how do volvos compare with this car?
bullshit. no mirrors folding, seat ventilate, auto dimming, ambient lighning, mirror auto fold
audi fanboy trolling here
I don't like design of the q7
I love this mazda , q7 is not as nice as cx9 except a bigger engine ,
the cx9 looks nice but its big, heavy and under power.
Mazda 😍👍👌👌👌👌
Lol I will get the Audi 12 times out of 10
So ur telling me ur gonna do luxury vs mid level !?
germans are the best cars in the world but you do pay a price.

if more a wind line on both side doors of Mazda CX-9 is much better
are you okay ? if you go to Mazda manager and ask him with is the bast he will say Audi Q7 even if he somke
The Mazda front... all I see is the Lexus spindle grill. Nice interior for a car that's not a luxury car for sure. But if I wanted Japanese luxury SUV... Lexus RX F Sport for sure. Love the edgy looks on that thing.
Toyota4Life Of course you would, fanboy. Your opinion means absolute shit when you only support one company.
Dennis Xu lol dude save your breathe could careless what you got to say. go annoy someone else.
Toyota4Life I'm perfectly happy annoying you, thank you very much.
Audi, Audi & Audi again!

not the same level cars, what's the point......
Cheng Wang the point is the Mazda cx9 is a much better value.
NOFATCHICK1 you get what you pay
Stephen Shi this is good point
value in what sense? a car? what about the difference in all wheel drive system, infotainment system, build quality, power output, brand image etc.
so is dating a regular hottie to a VS angel...but VALUE is so not the point...dumb AF comparison
Comparing a Mazda to an Audi? -_-
Shit awd system, no heated rear seats, no panoramic sunroof and a useless third row. Not to mention it requires premium fuel to get the 250hp it claims. Cx9 is overrated.
audi
Audi Q7 is a hideous obese looking thing. the shape has no cohesive design. it's just lacking and for you to mention the Bentayga is actually a criticism. in this segment, the car has to look great foremost, then be comfortable, spacious etc. i'd go for a Range Rover
Fake review comparison just trying to sell his Mazda
Gosh he's hot!
Actually the infotainment system is very nice. I have the 2016 CX-5 and it's very pleasant and easy to use.
Rida Al Osman When I got into the Mazda my knees were immediately irritated by hard contact points which quickly became uncomfortable, a deal breaker on this alone, I only had a shortish drive and I was already fed up with those hard point. this guy didn't give any details about Mazda at all. He is trying to
compare apple with oranges, this video was total waste of time.
This is so disrespectful. These 2 vehicles do not even compare! it's probably a premium and that's new touch pad design.
Audi is miles better. lol
The channel is literally a Mazda dealership. Are you even going to try to hide your bias?
for mi audi beeter
mazda going full chinese by copying the germans and doing it cheaper. Mazda ripping off audi.
How much did Mazda buy you for? Get real.... CX-9 compared to the Q7???
Mazda is the wannabe, Audi is the OG!
9:30 Audi is more reliable than Mazda consumer report
silly comparison luxury vs budget ??!!!
