The kids here really aren’t that much better or worse than most amateur theatre companies. I’m mad at the adults that put the play on and wrote all of those stupid rewrites.
if you dont have good singers dont attempt a musical. especially dont attempt a musically complicated musical that everyone in the world knows off by heart. if theyd done something more ensembly theyd have been fine cus they could hide behind eachother. but they are just not good at singing and should have done a different play (maybe one that doesnt have a million thematic topics that need to be censored)

I heard about this when listening to Tim Hawkins podcast, he's a Christian comedian, him and his family were talking about how embarrassing it was. My opinion is that the analogy kind of works, and that they put a lot of work into the costumes/set, but the singing isn't good (I've been around a lot of great singing in church so it makes us look bad). It sounds like the church recognized their mistake and had only limited permission to preform it and not change the lyrics. Technically it should be considered a parody which is legal but it's probably too close to the original- they didn't even change the names of the sisters for example.
