    I also thought they where ugly, but when a Marseille deck was on sale I bought a copy, AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE DECK ♡ now they are just so beautiful. marseille is the deck who teach us to truly read the symbol, colors, direction, shapes and more and I just love the pips. Intuitive reading became something out of this world with this deck and system.

    I'm starting to find that the Marseilles decks are more elegant and definitely more subtle. The original RWS is still pretty subtle, compared to most of the more recent RWS creations. Anyway, I'm really falling in love with the Marseilles. Thanks for your videos.

    4:35 The four animals represent the 4 Fixed signs/Seasons: Human/Angel (Aquarius-Winter), Eagle/Phoenix (Scorpio-Fall), Lion (Leo-Summer), and Bull (Taurus-Spring). And they naturally also represent their respective elements and corresponding suit.

    I’d say the angel top left Angel is the cups suit, bottom left is coins as you say, active earth, a bull perhaps; the top right is swords in the world, the eagle, and the lion bottom right is the wands. Top right is air, active. Bottom right is active wands, the right side of the card is active and the left side of the card is passive, so cups and coins receive, feelings and emotions are on the top, the two bottom “animals” are active, your actions and money and health etc, belong to the earth plane which is the bottom of the cards. Thank you for your video, it’s always so good to hear another tdm lover offer their opinions. That’s what’s so special about the deck, it’s history and forcing tour mind to intuitively understand their meanings, without a specific image guiding you to a conclusion. Really interesting 😊🙏🏻😊

    The actual concept of a distinctive 'Tarot de Marseilles' is no older than the 1930s-40s, it was basically a 'brand' created for marketing by the Grimaud company. Likewise with the TdM 'systems' which were created by Joseph Maxwell and Paul Marteau in the 20th century. My first 'imprinting' of Tarot in the 1970s was via encountering TdM and Piedmontese Tarocchi. Timeless designs but essentially modern recreations, like the Camoin and other innovative variants more recently.
    I'd also add that the obsessive interpretations of minor details in TdM is too literal- minded an exegesis for my tastes...it seems to confuse the essential symbolic content with arbitrary decorative and accidental elements. After all the colour schemes were really just dictated by the cheap production methods of pochoir stencilling. Having said that, of course intuition can be sparked by any detail of an image and that's entirely valid as part of the personal divination process...

    • @wolfofcoins
      @wolfofcoins  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm always of the opinion that it's good to read the way that works for you, but it is not that easy to find your way, so we try, we experiment and if we don't give up, we can arrive at a technique that is for us - at least for now, because we are ever changing creatures :)
      What is you preferred way of reading?

    • @NigelJackson
      @NigelJackson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wolfofcoins Some refer, with some justification to TdM as the 'Tarot de Milan'!(And Lyons rather than Marseilles was the major hub of French Tarot manufacture in the 17th-18th century.) Agreed that Tarot cartomancy is a decidedly delicate art. I just use a simple 3 card spread most days - (I find too many cards makes it harder for me to pick up the 'signal')...I also think that the best readings combine pure intuitive insight with an informed sensitivity to traditional symbolic meanings. Etteilla's 18th century Piedmontese cartomancer sources still inform a lot of the general consensus re. the cards' divinatory meanings.
      The modish notion nowadays that one should 'throw away the books' and read one's own intuitive meanings into the cards is all well and good - of course flashes of pure intuition are necessary to divine effectively.
      But I do suspect that this contemporary trend is actually based on the influence of post-modernist deconstruction, the notion that there are no ultimate truths other than what we 'read' into texts or images...

    On the Millennial website they do not tell you what the dimensions of the cards are. Can you tell me what the size is?
    Also, what is the card stock like? I have heard that the Jodorowsky card stock is not so nice, pretty flimsy? How does the Millennial compare with the Jodorowsky that way. Sorry to bother you with this. What intrigues me about the M. deck is the expansion of the borders. Thanks, Anne

    • @wolfofcoins
      @wolfofcoins  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My ruler is in milimeters, so I'm giving mm here :) The cards are 64mm x 123mm. The card stock is stiffer than Jodo-Camoin, and thicker too. I personally prefer thinner and more flexible cards (for me the Jodo-Camoin shuffles really well, I love it!), but some people really enjoy the Edition Millennium card stock. What I love about these cards it that they look like they have pointy edges (like original tarot cards had), but really they are not! So they don't hurt my hands while shuffling :)

    At 14:40 you showed a Knight of Coins card... but it was the one from Jodorowsky, not the Millennium Edition. (It was getting a little confusing!)
    For classic Marseille I like the Millennium Edition very much (also Jodorowsky and Noblet), but for everyday reading and for travel I like Lo Scarabeo's Ancient Italian Tarot (a reprint of an 1880 Italian deck) - it's cheap and plentiful (in print since 2000), easy to shuffle, has rounded card edges, and it follows the Marseille template while offering delicate and detailed beautiful images.

    • @wolfofcoins
      @wolfofcoins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I used two decks, because it was easier to prepare all of the cards in advance and film this way :)
      I have the Ancient Italian, it's a great deck! But I do find myself using the more "crude" decks for reading, actually. They seem to stimulate my brain better :D But it's an individual thing, I suppose :)

    • @wolfofcoins
      @wolfofcoins  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is definitely a popular theory, but there's a quite wide debate about Angel/Eagle Cups/Swords topic :)

    • @GrzegorzWronkowski
      @GrzegorzWronkowski 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is what Jodorowsky says. I also share his view because eagle is predator in air, and Angel comes from Christanity, mercy, spirit, astro Pisces=water=Cups (Ichthys, Fish = Christ).
      Another version is: Raphael (Aquarius) is upper left, Gabriel (Scorpio) is the eagle, Michael (Leo) is the lion, and Uriel (Taurus) is the bull (Earth).

    • @wolfofcoins
      @wolfofcoins  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me the Angel also fits better with Cups - like you said, angels bring nice things to mind (e.g. guardian angel) and eagles are dangerous and have sharp beaks. However we will never know what the original intention was, so I think it's up to us as readers to choose a version that speaks to us personally and help us as readers :)
