Ok, I didn't even know I wanted permanent timewalking until I heard the system in FF14 explained. That sounds awesome for getting footage of hard ass previous boss fights. Blizzard does have a system in hearthstone were they let you play old, un-nerfed cards and decks. Or maybe it was just for 1 event, but whatever the case that seems like something they could do in wow
@@jrinron1926 true, it doesn't recreate the conditions of 2.0 to the letter. Hovewer, it still makes the fights fun to play through and leaves a lot of room to actually die on them.
@@jrinron1926 Yes it isn't the exact same back then and also the food you use isn't scaled down as far as I understand so you still can get a huge boost to stats with that. But even tho - it is still a very viable system to play old content which is still awesome.
@@jrinron1926 the content is still difficult. Put a bunch of sprouts in turn 5 with no knowledge and they will still wipe a shitload and have a good time figuring out the fights.
ive been saying for a looong time that wow needs to rework the old expansions/core gameplay to be relevant in any expansion. Spells items trinkets anything really. They are only used for mog runs now typically, having potentially different specs for each expansion. I think they need to go crazy then sloooowly turn chaos into a funneled experience for each community. You throw a shit ton of new spells the pvp and pve community would not complain at all. New spells are only a problem because level boosts rob players of learning slowly, no one would complain if you had to learn them in a new system that STAYS in the game.
To be honest I’m an old gamer. 32 never played MMOs. Asmon got me into Ff14 and I wish I could thank him. He’s always been true to himself since he’s started. It’s refreshing to see a genuine person gaming.
Makes me think of Destiny 2. You would think they left Activision because they disagreed with their monatary sleeziness... But no, they are continuing to do that, they just didn't want to share in the profits. The best MMO imo right now is Guild Wars 2 and NO ONE is talking about it and that is so sad. I hope the End of Dragons expac is gonna bring some hype back to it!
@@hellgast0 I love GW2 but I don't really see how it's that great to play right now. It's certainly nice for people who've missed out on older content and can catch up on it now, but I don't really see much of a reason to play it actively before the new expac drops.
I remember the first expansion to wow. I lost 25%ish crit rate after I was done leveling down and from then on I don't remember ever not being able to find 10 majorly dumb things. It's just that now there's nothing good either.
@@Til_What I mean, that's the great thing about gw2.. you can take a break and come back when new content drops for free! Also it's a great game for new players to jump in right now imo! And even returning players should have some fun! With the legendary armory, you can not say there isn't anything to do right now...
@@hellgast0 Oh no, I agree with that completely. GW2 is my happy place when it comes to MMOs. And it's for sure a game new players should look into way more. Sure, new legendary armour is nice to have, but it's not like there was some major content drop to appeal to veteran players who are just leaning back and waiting for the expansion (unless you really crave some GW2 rn). I'll personally wait till the expansion is closer or released to farm it alongside other stuff, but that's just me.
@m1lkshake This video quite literally has no ads and unlike 99% of other Twitch highlights channels we NEVER have mid-rolls on our videos... - Daily Dose of Asmongold
Even within the same expansion, content is outdated after the next major patch most of the time...All it takes is for them to raise the item level cap with newer gear as rewards for participating in the added content that the patch adds into the game whatever it happens to be, new dungeons/raids, some new world bosses or a PVP event, etc. Once you can obtain higher end gear than you could get in the raids/mythic+ from the previous patch, everything you've accomplished before becomes obsolete and meaningless. Likewise with these secondary systems such as our artifact weapons in Legion, or the Heart of Azeroth and our Azerite gear in BFA, Covenants and conduits in SL, All of these things we spent our time grinding and farming to level up and progress our characters is also rendered useless as soon as the next expansion drops. We shouldn't NEED all this extra stuff to make our characters feel powerful, and I can't for the life of me understand why Blizzard continually adds in all these secondary systems, only to pitch it in the bin and take it all away from us once the expansion is over. It's not a good feeling because without them, you feel gimped. Case in point, the corruption abilities on gear at the end of BFA. Once those were removed from the game our dps output was MUCH lower. FFXIV doesn't do that at all...EVERY dungeon/raid is continually being run in some form or another thanks to the Duty Roulette. People leveling up characters are required to do them to continue the story and advance to the next chapter/expansion, but you also see max level players doing them to obtain rewards from their challenge log every week. You also get currency which allows you to purchase gear that drops in those raids to be used as transmog, as well as the mounts you can obtain from them. Expansions in that game don't render everything else obsolete, which is amazing IMO
I know right?! Look at FFXIV, everything is still fucking relevant! WoW basically just drops everything for no reason every damn time a fucking expansions end.
THis right here is why I haven't looked back from WoW ever since I jumped on FF14 around 5 years ago. Not only content there is still present even as you work your way on the new stuff, they always find ways of returning to previous parts of the game and either give you something new and big (The Firmament) or give you incentivies to run old content (Moogle tomestones, relic weapons, Ultimate and Unreal raids). I don't think old content is removed from that game, rather phased out but present and at different times on the expansion, actually relevant again. The fact retail WoW REMOVED Vanilla with Cataclysm alone was a massive red flag and it only got worse from there.
They became too corporate, none of the original devs are left or the founders of the company and all they care about is money.. They're EA games 2.0 now.
Blizz needed this to happen. I thank these content creators for switching a much needed narrative and exposing the issues loudly. Also, I'm not saying this will fix anything. I personally think WoW's grave will only grow bigger and bigger to it's eventual death. But, Blizz needed to feel this pressure -- so badly.
Blizzard's goal is to give the least amount of content and polishing they can possibly get away with that people will still play and spend their money on. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they had a formula on a big whiteboard that employees are constantly reminded of.
Player engagement metrics, how can we milk every second more of the player to get a good metric for shareholders? I bet they have salary bonus related to that shit.

@@manuelsilva6244 I swear the more I read your comments the more you are proving my point I originally stated about you. WoW is boring as hell even before you hit end game. I am by no means a hardcore FFXIV fan but even I can tell there is so much to do in that game that its just fun period. The only thing I see missing from FF that I would like to see is a yes a better pvp system ( but I can get my fix with so many other games) and more voice acting
@@manuelsilva6244 FF XIV has plenty to do. Whether that's crafting/gathering, gold saucer mini games, mount/pet collections, extreme trials, alliance raids, savage raids, and even ultimates, and can even sync all the content to have proper challenge. There are also treasure maps, relic weapon glamours, ocean fishing and fishing itself which has its own goal if you want to gather all the different types of fish, the bozja/zadnor extremely difficult duels, obviously the occassional patch main story that is actually top notch, level all classes on the same character for maximum flexibility, etc. Hell, you can even do blue mage raids and gather spells/etc. The catch here is that none of the above is tied to character POWER progression aside from Savage. The rest is just for personal fun, achievements/goals, etc. Meanwhile, Shadowlands requires you to do m+, raiding, world quests, kill rares, torghast, pvp, grinding the maw, and all of that for POWER progression in order to raid optimally. I am sorry but paying a sub to have a 'virtual' job, which you work towards in order to even earn the RIGHT to have fun is borderline retarded. In XIV there are obviously massive grinds, but you do them only because you want something that looks cool, not because you struggle at progression and MUST grind it, otherwise you disrespect ppl's time. As for people not playing much XIV atm, big deal. The relic grind is still keeping ppl engaged, and there are ultimates/blue mage raids ppl are tackling in order to pass their time. I've cleared 2 out of 3 ultimates over the last 3 months or so, and working on my last one. After that I will take a break till Endwalker, so that I can enjoy the game. Meanwhile ppl who waited for shadowlands played with a shitty corruption system, which only got fixed 4-5 months in the last patch of the expansion, and then the corruptions were even timegated, to force you to stay subbed till shadowlands, if you wanted to get as strong as you possibly could lol.

WoW needs to fail. Blizzard doesn't know anymore how to make a game the players want. FFXIV started off as a game players didn't want. It failed hard and SE brought in the right guy in YoshiP and they rebuilt the game by listening to the community and have continued to add to the game after they hit the right mark and haven't changed the game because they have a base the players wanted and started playing again to experience. Blizzard started with a game people wanted and then continued to try and change that game to expand to a wider audience so much that they threw the original player base under the bus time and time again till they have a game nobody wants. Once that happens. Hopefully they'll take that like SE did and rebuild WoW into a game people want, Warcraft 2. Create a new game, have some balls, and make it based on what your playerbase wants, not what you think will hit the widest audience possible with a mediocre product. But honestly I don't think the devs at Blizz even know how to make unique content that's enjoyable. They are too corporate now and too disconnected with the public.
I think the problem today is that almost none of the original developers are around, those that played games themselves and developing wow was their hobby. @@Dathrix shitting on WoW because they want to see improvements on the game they love is very very different from shitting on WoW while they ALL play WoWs greatest competitor..
There are many things in FF where I've thought "this is something they should have done in wow long ago", I started noticing it with more and more things until now where I'm thinking WoW is just totally outdated. They're just outgunned. It's amazing to me that 50 floors of palace of the dead feels like LESS of a slog than 5 floors of Torghast. Wow became amateurish and lazy. It's that simple.
Cod-crossover take: Every in-game earnable skin and variant skin for completing challenges for the character are all worse than every skin in the store. Every weapon skin you can unlock in game is worse than any skin in the store.
That in itself goes to show what is truly important to Blizzard, money talks. Screw the player, screw the effort you needed to make to get the cool stuff. Everything is short-term gain now, except the wheels are starting to fall off and they have shot themselves in the foot. TBH, I don't necessarily mind the instant gratification of the microtransactions, but the top tier stuff should be difficult to attain.
The point about FFs roulette is spot on. WoW has over 100 dungeons in the game and in Shadowlands less than 10 are actually relevant. Imagine if WoW actually utilized all of those dungeons at level cap like FF does (timewalking is a joke at this point). I got real sick of doing the same 8 mythic dungeons over and over. Adding some actual variety would do wonders for the game.
They need to be an incentive for people to revisit old dungeons. For FF it's easier due to multiple jobs leveling for one character. You can choose to be tank, dps or healer for the same dungeons and it still feel like a different experience. WOW doesn't have that system in place but creating multiple alts - which is not the same thing because you won't have the same emotional attachment as to your main.
While I don't think Classic-Cata dungeons would work as well, but I think throwing in some MoP->Legion Dungeons on a weekly rotation for M+ can do wonders. Like you have the current expansion keys, and possibly another 5-6 from previous expansions that rotate in the M+ pool. They can probably normalize some of the weirder gear for balance, and keep vault rewards to current expansion loot just to make sure the vault doesn't get too bloated

Man after hearing Asmongold i cant wait for him to get to heavensward and see the ending of ARR. Its sad he cant fight the prenerfed final story boss of ARR due to how many casual players couldnt clear it before the nerf......
@@Forien Aurum Vale was nerfed as well, some of the casual dungeons and bosses were actually quite difficult, wipes were expected, and when you won it felt really good. Unfortunately, hordes of players requested nerfs of those dungeons, and developers did what the majority wanted, further widening the gap between people into more difficult and casual content.
They were nerfed so people could progress through story without bigger issues. Its not nice if you cant progress to next chapter cause you stuck on some raid bosses. Its nice to have raids mixed with main story but it should only be "story" and not "challenge" Not everyone are interested in wiping 20 times and beeing stuck on one chapter for half day or more. Thats why there are harder difficulty levels for people who are actually interested to clear this with more planned manner.
Steps of Faith wasn't nerfed because it was hard. (The only mechanic you needed was 'hit dragon with dragonkiller.) It was nerfed because people who had their clears would drop when it popped, which was the real difficulty. Once the 'vets' (who have bitched it was nerfed) dropped groups, they had to nerf it to keep those vets from leaving.
Hi, as far as we know there are going to be some smaller scale PvP coming with Endwalker, so it should cut queue times and bring more variety to the table. But we'll see in November how it'll be :)
Eh... If I were you, I'd resign myself to be part time weeb and scratch the PvP itch elsewhere. The PvP crowd in XIV is really starved and it doesn't seem like they'll get more than the ocassional small bone thrown to them.
Long time wow player, have played other games like Eve online, elder scrolls online, swtor, Lotro..and a few bouts with FFXIV, the game that I left back in 2007 to play world of Warcraft was RuneScape and RuneScape is still going strong getting better and quite honestly I think I might just make that my main game.
This. FFXIV feels much larger and more complete as a game because they don't throw away their content in the trash the moment a new patch comes out. WoW has to be the largest game of all time that also feels like the smallest, I don't know how they do it.
That's because WoW does not focus on their main story. There are tons of quests that sends you all over the place and you will need to puzzle them together. That's why I rely on Bellular or Nobbel to create lore videos so I can actually learn about the story.
There's also a big difference in presentation. FFXIV has little bits of dialogue between the characters when you take a quest and when you progress, making them feel "alive". They also often accompany you into fights (even if it's just for show). In WoW, the quest text is usually just dumped onto you in its entirety in a single window the moment you pick (with rare exceptions), so it's like taking a quest from a bounty board. I didn't realize how much difference it made until I moved on to FFXIV.
I never cared about WoW lore because they've never told it well. Warcraft 3's fairly short campaigns told better stories than WoW ever did. They never could properly incorporate the fact that millions of people are playing their game into the lore, most cutscenes act as if the player/s don't even exist, yet the player is the focus on all the random quests in the open world. It's never brought the players front and center and makes the playerbase feel pointless in the overall story.
See the problem is, back in the day WoW relied on a more open-concept game design, where you could have fun literally just traversing the world and discovering things. Look at what Ashenvale Forest was, for instance. I had fun just running around with my friends and PVPing. It doesn't have that sort of appeal anymore with the new expansions. It's very difficult to have both a linear narrative AND the large scale (almost sandboxy) open world. Doesn't work. FF14 picked one of those things and ran with it, WoW tries to do both and consistently misses the mark.
Buddy who has played wow since launch, just quit for ff14. I haven't played mmo's for years and Ashes of Creation might bring me back. Wow is now a sad husk, it will always be the game that brought millions into the genre but it's a relic at this point
7:55 This. From experience, when a company, of any nature, puts numbers above EVERYTHING else, it makes more money, yeah, but at the expense of the people whether they are employees or players. When this point is reached, an aura of negativity is created that grows little by little without stopping, and things never end well.
@@stormdragon2529 With their current devs? HAH! They might as well just say that Azeroth is going to die and be eaten by the Old Gods/The Void. THAT would be a fitting end to current WoW.
Blizzard was a 'superstar' developer, with personalities tied into the development. You can see, literally, in the expansions where those OG names started leaving or being pushed out in the WoD - Legion flip. Legion was much more complete and polished than WoD, and felt like the true successor to Pandaria and Cata. Clearly WoD was pushed up and took Legion's slot. The first half was good, table aside, aspirational, and had potential in the narrative, then collapsed in the second half. If you view the story in arcs, Cata-MoP-Legion are all the same story arc. Battle for Azeroth makes no sense from a story point, especially following Legion. However... if it followed WoD, and was an Azeroth in that alternate timeline... with an Iron Horde fleeing through the portal... Legion would be the last of the old group's writing and guidance, then BfA would have been under the new group who had no investment in the lore or playstyle of the game that was.
One of the biggest issue I have with WoW is that they spend 2 years building new systems, sinking dev time into them, just to drop everything and move on to the new systems in the next expansion. FF14 takes their systems and builds on them and tweaks them to make them better.
ffxiv was at the stage where it was fucking incredible 5-6 years ago, with the release of heavensward, but it's good to see the wow community finally catch up and get on board.
I agree with u in some way, am new to the whole FF thing, and dont know much about the game overall. I feel like even if FF was problably incredible back in the day, only now more people are seeing it. Cause, in a lot of ways, wow is killing itself slowly with time, and as the grand behemoth of a game it was, its always overshadowing other really GOOD games. Anyway, i really think as wow launched Shadowlamds, it sucked after few months, theres no more content, AND FF is launching a new expansion, everyone in the FF community is hyped for it, just like Wow used to make us excited. And to complete all this, the biggest streamer in wow is 'leaving' wow for FF. Everything built up together makes the game have really good visibility and helped stabilish its ground as the new biggest great MMO. Just like bellular said, FF is not a new game, its needed its time to consolidate and it made it really well competing against wow (despite blizzard killing their own game),thats a lot of content, and the community ystem is rather good, guess thats what makes the game even more enjoyable and easy to aproach in some ways(also despite the buying the game stuff)

I'm really hoping an ESO dev hears asmon's idea for wearing collectible heads on your mount. There are so many badass looking trophies from dungeons in ESO that I'd love wearing on my mounts.
First off, great video, so glad Bellular finally came on Allcraft... I have been enjoying watching both Asmon and Rich play FFXIV... I started playing FFXIV in late 2019 and it has such a strong community that I miss from WOW which I haven't felt since the early days of WOW... Also, I never got WOW'd from WOW fights the way I do in FFXIV big boss encounters... they really are more of a fun challenge and beautiful to look at. I played WOW from beta 2004 and launch, off and on until 2019. WOW never focused well on social content, and social content does strengthen a community. Activision became the slow poison that really did them in though. Once all the founders, the designers, all the heart and soul of Blizzard basically, were gone... and I saw the push for wow tokens, the RNG, the grind, the relationship, the guilds constantly falling apart... I could not feel immersed anymore, and I could not enjoy a game where I could not respect the people making it anymore. FFXIV is a more complete game because it has a better balance between social content and aggressive battle content and the threading of the story throughout is just so well done...
I logged in back into WoW a few days ago. When I realised that I had to change my covenant to stay relevant and forge a new legendary I uninstalled it immediately
Fuck that shit, "player choice" my ass, it's not like the covenants would EVER be balanced to a point where you could choose any of them, it's almost like they do this on purpose to make players grind again for covenant and legendary so they have better engagement metrics every patch, it's ridiculous they don't care if you're having fun at all, in fact if you're having fun you can bet they'll shut that thing down to normalize it
Having played WoW vs FF, I much prefer the way FF takes you through every piece of content in a kind of linear fashion. When you start the game, you're in easier content, moving slowly up through the expansions and seeing things get more difficult. But importantly, you do the whole expansion before moving to the next one. In WoW, I always felt like halfway through these older expansions, I'd have outlevelled it and was being pushed onto the next thing, without having the chance to finish the story of the area. I remember finally being able to do WotLK, only to hit maybe the 3rd or 4th zone and being punted over to Pandaria instead. I never made it to Icecrown, because I was making the mistake(?) of wanting to experience as much as I could, doing sidequests and other things in order to further immerse myself in the world. I wish WoW did the same thing as FF, where the expansions are certain levels of content, but that it's entirely possible to go through that span of 10 or so levels in a more paced amount of time. I made the mistake of wanting to enjoy the content WoW had for levelling instead of speedrunning my way to max level (110 at the time)
When ESO came out with One Tamriel, it changed the game so much. ESO has so much in the game between the crafting, achievements, trials, vet dungeons, vet dlc dungeons and exploration the games just so big. Hell I didn’t even mention the lore and questing, the way you can play and build your character and be viable is almost endless. There’s so much RP between becoming a vampire and werewolf, what’s cool is if you become a vampire you get a whole set of passives and new skill tree that has some of the best spell effects, but the coolest thing is how the NPCs treat you, using your abilities in town is a crime and result in being attacked and fined. Then NPCs won’t talk to you so you have to use a ability called hypnotize to charm them so you can interact with vendors and quest givers.
I know that many of the pre-cataclysm developers, artists and programmers were either fed up and left or were unceremoniously fired. Many were the creators of Guild Wars or were picked up bu other developers. While I love the lore, I would not be surprised to discover that the remaining staff just don't know how to innovate like former employees.
I don't know what's more distracting to me from the conversation being had: Chat talking to Rich. Or Rich reacting to chat about how he's reacting to chat.
THE BEST COIN FOR WOW TO KEEP PPL IS CALLED NOSTALGIA-HOMESICKNESS: we stay here cause of the memories and the physiologically need to feel as good as we felt on previous expansions.
Man I think Rich spoke the realist truths when he ranted about Blizzard doing everything right to make cash. And then Bellular just rambled on about MDI metrics dropping and other issues he has with the design of WoW while completely missing Rich's point. Blizzards SOLE focus now is to simply put cash in pockets and all that's needed for them to do that is to make the box look as shiny as possible so people spend their money first and complain second.
@@shogged What do you mean relax? I know he's awesome. I'm just saying he made the best point out of the 3 of them. I think you may have misread my comment if you think I'm upset.
i wonder how much money square enix is spending to get ahold of licensing for stuff like avengers and guardians of the galaxy. i imagine that stuff gets more budget than FFXIV...and if that avengers game is anything to go by its not exactly being profitable. i think this recent surge in FFXIV might get them to consider changing priorities in the near future.
When Employees of any company lose interest, or vision, or passion (or perhaps they never had it and the people with passion left), then what's left over is retention. Employees at that point will to just enough to not get fired (or to keep their bonus level up to whatever it is).
Rich is so on the ball with the reality of Blizzard. It's sad that though its reality, the only thing you can do about it is just not play the game anymore.
The feel of Shadowbribgers is really good, I'm about halfway through the story and it just feels like a traditional fantasy RPG, traveling around, killing the big bad of each zone, and restoring the night sky, (thats all I'll say without spoilers) but it feels super satisfying. Its simple, yet something I can still care about as a player even if someone skips cutscenes. You don't have to have a super intricate story with character redemption arcs to make an interesting plot, or setting.
Blizzard before 2010: let us make a game that engages players so they have fun and come back to the game. Blizzard after 2010: let us make a game that forces players to stay online so we can milk them as much as we can.
One thing that would stop Mount saturation and something that would fix a lot of WoWs issues is making old content worth something. If all the raids and dungeons scaled to your level it would mean something again. Have them still be soloable like currently for the Transmog community because that is still fun. But create some sort of Level Sync and tie the old mounts to collecting the achievements while level synced that way the old mounts have that gravitas to them again.
There is technically permanent timewalking in WoW, it's the two different versions of WoW currently available. Vanilla wow and tbc classic

ive been saying for a looong time that wow needs to rework the old expansions/core gameplay to be relevant in any expansion.

"An expansion shouldn't be subtractive." This is what I've wished forever. We have so much wasted content the moment a new expansion drops.
As well as time limited collectables that get outright removed

I think it's because it's a measure of half-listening. They're probably examining data bases to find out how many people actually delve into that kind of content, seeing it's not very high, and cutting the mechanic for the next expansion. So they know people aren't doing these mechanics, they're just not listening to figure out WHY people aren't engaged with their insane underdeveloped gimmicks. Then they try again next expansion with a new absurd gimmick, only to see the same result. They're trying to strike gold but keep digging up pyrite.

NerfS. Steps of Faith was nerfed like three times, the last time around the release of Stormblood iirc.
I like ff14 because of the main story quests. Old content has meaning. Wow lore is a mess not worth sorting threw

Very true and not only in gaming companies.
Downloading FFXIV now wow is in its death throws.

Fuck that shit, "player choice" my ass, it's not like the covenants would EVER be balanced to a point where you could choose any of them, it's almost like they do this on purpose to make players grind again for covenant and legendary so they have better engagement metrics every patch, it's ridiculous they don't care if you're having fun at all, in fact if you're having fun you can bet they'll shut that thing down to normalize it
I got KSM undergeared, with the worst covenant and as a freaking frost dk, so that excuse is nothing if you're good at the game
I made the mistake of wanting to enjoy the content WoW had for levelling instead of speedrunning my way to max level (110 at the time)
I seriously love final fantasy. It saved mmos for me.
Niiice I've been waiting for this
Imagine if final fantasy XIV revamped pvp. Game over.
I know that many of the pre-cataclysm developers, artists and programmers were either fed up and left or were unceremoniously fired. If all the raids and dungeons scaled to your level it would mean something again. Have them still be soloable like currently for the Transmog community because that is still fun. But create some sort of Level Sync and tie the old mounts to collecting the achievements while level synced that way the old mounts have that gravitas to them again.
