UV unwrapping is important because it will allow you to texture your model later and have full control over the texture in each part of the mesh. Now, depending on your model, you might not need to unwrap it and still be able to texture it well enough, but this should only apply to simple models. A more complex model, such as a character, for example, should be unwrapped, giving you full control over the details of the textures. There are also compatibility issues, i.e. a model that is not unwrapped but it is textured may look good in the software it was created, but might have problems if you export it to another software. Finally, you might find it difficult to texture a complex model that was not unwrapped before, but I think if you try to do that, you'll understand the importance of unwrapping first hand. Most movies you see and games you play will have the 3D models (the majority of them) unwrapped. Then again, you have to see in each case whether the model needs to be unwrapped or not, although it is always better to.
You have the best explanations for 3d models. PLEASE make more (and more often)

I like the way you work. Do you think there could be a video on modeling birds, specifically owls, in the future? 🦉🪶
