Considering Sheridan’s reputation, after 2 episodes, I’m disappointed in a few things with the series; Knowing Bass Reeves background, a glaring issue’s the misrepresentation in casting with the lead actor. Bass was 6’2”, 200 lbs. +. Everything I’ve read & heard about him ALWAYS emphasizes his size, physical prowess & strength. Respectfully, I believe there’s a blatant, atypical, Hollywood sellout, casting a comparatively diminutive (5’7-8”, 175 lb.) pretty boy, in his place. It’s like Tom Cruise as Reacher, if you know the source material. Every opportunity they get, he’s got his shirt off. At 60+, a lifelong fan of the Western genre, this kinda harlequin romance drivel, doesn’t impress. Perhaps the ladies & some other communities want this thing, personally, I’d prefer a more realistic, respectful representation. Don’t get me wrong, the guy’s a fine actor, but are you telling me there’s not a more suitable guy to play such a legendary figure, in such a physical role❓Everytime you see him beside his 5’8” wife, the reality’s literally laughable.
That was a major gripe for me as well, let’s keep some consistency at least with how they’re supposed to look physically, other than that I’m impressed thus far
(Grant Johnson is Bass Reeves's Indian partner) " On September 24, 1892, a white woman named Mattie Bittle wrote Bass Reeves a letter, rife with misspellings, complaining about her husband: Mr. Bass Reeves sir I though I would write a few lines to you. I never never can get to see you. I want you to come soon as you can get here. My husband on the first Sunday in August beat me all most to death. I was real sick I wanted him to go for a doctor he said I need no doctor I was able to work as he was I said I wished he had stade in the penitintry he got a stick and beat me I don’t think I can get over it they hindred him as he would killed me he is in Redfork I gess" Deputy Marshal Reeves was not able to investigate the case, but his friend and colleague Johnson stepped in for him. Miss Bittle had been beaten to death when Johnson arrived and he fought hard for justice.
That would be hard to stomach. And, truth is, there were many black men taken into the Confederate side alongside "masters" and it should be viewed in that context, not as choice on their part. And to have to fight in a war against your own possible liberation would be an incomprehensible burden. And when the opportunity to not fight presented itself, most took it.
And for those that did not know, Bass is sighted as the Original inspiration for the "Lone Ranger"
Wow😢❤😢
Cited is the word.
The ending of this episode is one of the most beautiful things I have ever watched.
Bass Reeves was bad assed!! 😊

And a Winchester style lever action rifle in 1862? As soon as I saw this, I said to myself, "I'm not watching this."

I was waiting on this series, I began watching and discovered he was a black man fighting for the Confederates, I turned it off.
That was a little white lie he fought for the north as you can see in the film.
@cliffordbaker both actors just said they fighting for confederate is there a movie your talking about?
You're weak.
