The Legenda Aurea in turn followy the Jerusalemite tradition about the Assumption. There is also a tradition from Ephesus about her assumption

As tertiary of the third order of St Francis I have been praying the 1962 traditional divine office prayers and they were at work chopping that up and removed a lot of prayers but it's better then the new American Bible liturgy of the hours of today.

The eastern Orthodox Church, I believe, holds the Dormition in high regard. For Catholics it is not dogma and is optional.
