  • How to make a horse more forward is changing the way you school him. Think of stimulating their mind and creating variety so they are concentrating and focusing. If you trot around and around on a circle, the horse will switch off and become bored so you need to do exercises that inspire them to try hard and work with you.
Making your horse forward is trying new things, being beautiful with your contact so you don't punish him with a hard contact when he does go forward. Rewarding him for his efforts when he tries to please you, keeping his work shorter and full of different activities.
Together with TeQ clothing, I can bring you a great deal on the TeQ tights that I am seen wearing in this set of videos. The tights are super comfortable and the material on the inside thigh and leg really helps when you're trying to sit to the trot, sit a buck, or trying to stay connected when jumping. Buy the tights and get a belt for only $10.00 NZD.

Great advise! My mare works best when she's been out for an hour. She takes forever to warm up, so I'll usually turn her out, go for a hack etc. and then work in the arena with her. That's what keeps her fresh! Also poles work well

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely try the second exercise (more advanced). I think the problem is that I focus so much on getting my pony forward so I become very naggy and messy rather than keeping her engaged and doing things she exceeds in (like walk to canters, shoulder-ins, leg yielding, etc). ❤😊

Thank you for this excellent video! My horse is like this and loves to evade work - some variety as shown here, will help immensely! Looking forward to my next ride. :)

Yes these are good videos. I have a quiet QH/TB so asking lots of transitions and doing lots of stuff keeps him awake better.

Thanks for your nice feedback. Yes being kept busy is way more effective than kicking

I’m going to try this exercise tomorrow on the mare that I ride and I really hope it’s gonna work. She is almost completely deaf to both leg, whip and spurs. So this is kind of my last hope😅

Did it work? Remember it won't happen naturally with a lazy horse, everyday you will have to re -stimulate her.

SO true. My mare doesn't get engaged until stimulated with work, usually trot.

My horse for the first few minutes of trot to the right just falls down, doesnt pick his right front leg up and looks like hes limping, even tho nothing is actually wrong, he just gets really stuck and hard and its hard to make him round and through. I dont know what to do and my trainer tells me to kick him a bit and make him be more active, but I would have to be kicking the whole time. He just reaaaally doesnt want to pick himself up.

If he limps at all esp in the beginning of the ride when he is cold, I would get the vet to check him over just to be 100% sure.

Chair seat, busy hands, boots don’t fit, and looks like she’s fighting too much…

Both she and the horse look uncomfortable to me. Horse is flinching.
