I don't have any family or friends in Ohio, but you were the first person I thought of when I heard about a crazy tornado hitting Ohio. I'm very happy to hear that you and the kitties are okay.
Thanks very much. I am very fortunate not to be dealing with the devastation so many others are but I remind myself that many lost so much in almost every case it could have been worse.
This was my family's neighborhood. The camera cut off at 8:43 right when you turned onto their street and came back when you turned the corner where there house is. All I could see was the driveway on the left at 8:45.
It really saddens me to see this. I grew up in Beavercreek (BHS Class of 82) and have a lot of wonderful memories there. My dad lives off of New-Germany Trebein and luckily his house was not hit. I have not been back since before this happened so I hope that 2 years later it has bounced back. My dad says that it’s mostly back to normal but you can still see signs that this happened. Thanks for posting this.
That is great to hear! I was very relieved to just get the straight line winds and golf ball hail because the news predicted it was pretty much on a path to my neighborhood. Even with all the destruction I try to remember it could have been worse for almost everyone involved - but that won't make the next few weeks easier for a lot of people.
@@moviesrus8370 I have one buddy who won't be able to be in their house for 6 to 8 months but luckily no one was injured. It's not asy but gotta search for those silver linings.

That is so true. I keep trying to remember that even tho so many are feeling devastated ... there is much to be thankful for because in so many situations it could have been worse.
I saw those warnings and I was thinking about you and hoping you and the boys were okay. I was watching them on radar not knowing exactly where you live and hoping for the best. The one EF-3 sure looked like an EF-4 to me from the type of damage but all I know is what I saw on videos. I've been a Skywarn storm spotter for the NWS for about 25 years. I've taken a couple damage and engineering assessment courses from FEMA since I was a construction manager during my working life. Even though i know a little about how tornadoes get rated, you really have to e on the ground and look at the damage to know what really happened. Some of what you were driving through appeared to be straight line wind damage. Dayton International clocked an 82 mph gust and 74 mph sustained winds, so that's the wind speeds in an EF-1/EF-2 tornado. As you kno9w, there was also a lot of hail damage reported. The weird thing is down here in Alabama, where we should be getting storms, all we've had is 100 degree days and sun. All the strm systems have been shunted up toward you. It hasn't even rained here since May 17 and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon. Unfortunately, as long as we're stuck in this stable heat pattern, more storms will be headed up there. I'm glad you and your house are okay.
You have far more knowledge about it that I do. :-) The news ended up saying there were 5 tornadoes in the Dayton area that night. This video is actually all in a pretty small area - only a few blocks. I thought much like you say that some of the damage had to be from outside actual tornado footprint and more of the straight line wind type. I am still not exactly sure where the precise areas they "officially" touched down. Yes - I did hear that much of the reason was because of hot warm front south of here. Thanks for your insights - all the best.
@@WanderDano The Beavercreek tornado was an EF-3 that started just west of Spinning Rd and continued on an almost straight line for about 10 miles. It caused a lot of damage in the area of I-675 and Grange Hall Rd. It crossed the Fairfield Commons shopping center and was about .70 miles wide as it hit Fairfield Rd. That's why there was so much damage along and east of Fairfield there and in the residential area surrounding the shopping center. It tore up apartments on Anna Laura Lane so that must be where you showed the damaged apartments. It weakened to EF-1/EF-2 after crossing Fairfield and then to Ef-0/EF-1 through Beavercreek Township, lifting east of US 68 in Xenia Township. There's a video from a security camera on YT as the tornado went through the shopping center. There were 19 tornadoes from Wilmington through the Dayton area and five in the general dayton area. The Brookville/Trotwood tornado has been upgraded to an EF-4, consistent with the damage saw on videos. It was a rough day and night. I'm glad you and the boys made it through in good shape.
@@WanderDano The NWS doesn't mention it in their report, but very few tornadoes remain 100% on the ground over a ten mile path, especially as they start to weaken. They'll lift, cause straight line wind damage, and then touch down again with more typical tornado damage. You can generally tell if it was a tornado by the circular pattern trees fall in compared to all one direction with straight line winds. The Dayton area has a bad history for tornadoes, especially long path tornadoes. I think it's just so flat there that there's not much to stop a tornado once it gets started. Looks like some thunderstorms tomorrow night and Sunday but nothing severe, and then nice weather through mid-week, when scattered storms return. I wish we'd get some of that. No
No damage has been reported for Kettering.

yes - very! :-(
Egads! So glad you and Eddie are safe and sound. Tornado's are so harsh and random. What a mess. Nice of you to lend a hand, but of course you did.
Thanks! I guess they have officially said 5 tornadoes hit the local area that night. I don't think it's that big of a deal -- isn't helping someone when you can the right thing to do?? :-)
you drove by my house lol
I hope it was one of the barely damaged ones :-)
but good coverage w everything else
It was actually tough to see - I didn't tour too much of it - I was helping a friend with clean up.
He showed my house
I hope it was one that wasn't damage. :-)
