Well, it could also do fine for 3 player as sports have both 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 versions. If playing with 3 players then only the latter match mode is possible. If with 2 players, 2-om-2 is possible to pick, 3-on-3 will have a CPU teammate that either player can switch to. But I suggest just pick 2-om-2 match format if playing with 2 players.
