I did 6 months for 1st degree assault. while I was in corrections, I met with some inmates who gave me a basic rundown of how things work. depending on what crime you committed, you'd either be left alone or would be a target. me having assaulted my older half-brother for hitting our mother, I was left alone and some of the guys would watch out for me and warn me if someone was dangerous. I knew of 1 person in there who assaulted a 14 yr old girl, but instead of ending his life, others would do things like punch him either in his stomach or in his chest so as to avoid sending him to the infirmary since it meant he'd get away from them. their idea of making his life hell was making him paranoid that everyone around him was plotting to end him but in reality, he was just the punching bag. ending his life would have been him getting off too easily and they made sure he knew that

For those wondering how other prisoners even find out what people are in for even if they dont tell them, It is really impossible to keep your crime private in today’s day and age. All someone has to do is mail a letter to a friend on the street and tell them the inmates name and where they are housed and they can look up the crime and relay the findings back to the inmate who will spread the news.
The first guy on the right in the blue shirt’s name is Richard Huckle from England who did things to young boys and girls from 6 months to 11 years old and uploaded the attacks online. However he did get tortured for an hour by his cell mate before he got killed

One of the reasons judges give the 100+ year sentences is so that if one charge gets thrown out on a technicality, the criminal will still have 80+ years to do type of thing. It is also cathartic for the victims to see the perpetrator getting a big sentence.

He may have committed aggravated assault which can add 5 years. Robbery may be added to the mix, 20 years. How horrible did the man kill the person? torture can be another 30 years. If with a gun, likely unlicensed then 15 years. Obviously none of these years are realistic towards the crime but together this is roughly 95 years in total and not many people live that long but if that person tries to have their sentence shortened or apply for parole the rest of the sentence needs to be considered to actually decide whether or not they should allow it. There ain't a thing I'd risk going there for outside of some magical cure for cancer or something which is personal for me since dad died of it in 04, stepdad in 2020. There was this 1 time I'd been stuck in a mental health place at 17yo (funnily enough I looked older then) and it was very difficult for me, but fortunately that was prior to polymyositis "activating" so I was pretty strong... And no, I wasn't umm, nobody "got" me. Anyway, I don't believe anyone should be killed, but imo these "people" should be punished in the most extreme manner possible, I mean death is too quick. I want them terrified.
