Not sure you guys will ever see this comment but I have been watching your videos every single chance I get for 4 days straight. I have totally fallen in love with ya'll! Ive see the newer videos with Lenny & the videos of how you guys started awhile back but missed a bunch in between! You are both so beautiful inside and out, so grateful for this channel & you guys sharing your special family with us all!
Actually looking into booking a sail through The Moorings with my husband and some friends of ours for 2020!

Very much enjoy the underwater & spear fishing segments. Your sustainable use of the fisheries you pass through is healthy and noble. Don't let the naysayers dissuade you from your preferred way of providing fresh protein for your family. Good show!

Yes, nearly every fish will be killed by a predator. When it happens is just a question of probability. That is nature!
We also get killed one day, by an accident or by sickness.

I take care of over 13 rescued animals plus the wild ones out back, on social security, so I am always a day late and a dollar short. But I wanted to THANK SINCERELY the good people who do what they can to support and help Elayna and Riley. These two extraordinary kids have helped me through some difficult days. I'd send them the moon if I could. Much love to all.

I think I made a comment a few years ago when you had something like 20k subscribers that you were on your way to 100k. Well, I have another prediction--1,000,000--is in your future. You should be proud of this channel and what you have built in a relatively short time. Cheers!

Hey Riley, I here you're working on your technique in hoisting the main solo. Point up to close hauled...set your autopilot to apparent wind...dump the boomvang...give the main halyard 3 wraps on the winch uncleated...walk the main halyard forward to the mast...I forgot to mention tend to your sail ties and lazy jacks first...now this is the best part and it's really easy before I start forward I hand over hand start pulling the halyard until I get some resistance then I give it a triple wrap on the winch then walk it forward to the mast...holding the bitter end in my right and jumping the halyard with my left....with your left arm straight lean back on it and as you come forward pull in the slack with your right...look aloft to make sure there is no snags or hangups...as it gets more difficult I put a foot waist high on the mast to push against and pulling in the slack created quickly with the right hand...now I grab my winch handle and fine tune taking note of proper sail draft for the condition, less draft for higher winds and more for light wind...you want to adjust your cunningham for draft placement, I like it slightly forward of center....your boat I believe has a full roach square topped main, the sail maker should have specs. on tuning...just adjust your vang and your good. I love your TH-cam channel, I've been following from the beginning. I've sailed all over from the USA Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The two of you bring back wonderful memories of ports, anchorages, and off the tracks adventures. I hope I was helpful. Blessing to the three of you!

I’m a 14 year old boy from a small state on the east coast in the U.S.A. I would do anything to live my life the way you guys do. One day I wish to do the same. Have Fun! Peace.

Pay close attention to Riley's education/reading habits. He is constantly reading, studying, learning about a vast array of subjects, not just those immediately relevant to the needs of that particular day, but of anything and everything. He and Elayna are great role models for constant, continuous education, not just through schools but i on their own, and together. Their son is very fortunate to have such wonderful parents so deeply committed to learning. So, young Chase, you have chosen well, and wisely, in this choice of people to emulate. That they are genuinely nice, kind, loving people is a massive bonus.

I just caught up with every video you guys have put out there and I want to say thank you. I am a lifetime resident of landlocked Colorado here in the USA. I have been to the ocean twice and I have fell in love with it. But, I fear I might live out the rest of my days stuck on land. So, I wanted to thank you guys for the awesome footage of beautiful places my eyes will probably never see. I feel I have journeyed around the world and can't wait for more. You guys have inspired me, I am a college student working on a new career that could fund something more ambitious such as you two have done. I am not a patreon as of today, but someday I hope to be on that boat with you guys. May God continue to richly bless you. You have brought a little slice of paradise to my life. Sincerely Chad Reynolds

Many thanks to you two in particular. it was you (and Rick Moore) that started the sailing channel fade, and I like it. At least i can dream, while i wait for my small business to get sold, so i can too start sailing.

I am sure you got the dingy hole sorted, one way or the other , in trend. However, when I used to mend punctures in my bicycle inner tubes, as a kid, I would add a little washing up liquid to the water. That way, when you get a bubble of air, its a bit more obvious. You may have done this for all I know, but the next time you use a spray bottle to find a puncture on a dinghy, you might try adding a little detergent.
The other thought I had, was that is probably a lot easier to tell when a monohull is overpowered - a lot more heel ensues (and dishes hit the floor below deck). With a cat it is hard to tell, but you probably want to watch the leeward shroud. If this is pretty loose, chances are your overpowered. That can result in stress and potentially fractures in the rigging. Taking a reef or two, under such circumstances, is unlikely to reduce speed.

  • @craigkirby9202
    @craigkirby9202 ปีที่แล้ว

Dishwashing liquid reveals holes. Rub it all over. Its also useful for checking leaks in lpg bottles every time you connect a new one, or anywhere within the cabin. Get a dedicated sprey bottle with a little dishwashing liquid and water. -BullwinkleII

I always have that problem of the mainsail getting caught on the lazy jacks. Not quite sure I understand what you mean by tying the lazy jacks forward? Anyway the way I do it on St Vivien is by doing the main before the headsail and using the engine and autopilot to keep the boat chugging slowly into wind. Slacken the mainsheet so sail broadly stays in between the lazy jacks on it's way up. Never works the first time!

I don't know if you're still on the Bahamas however if you go north there's an island called Walker's Cay. It used to be a resort however a hurricane obliterated it.
I used to do extensive bone fishing there but they have excellent patch reefs lot of mutton snapper and yellowtail snapper ripe for the picking.
Few miles east is a small island called Grande Cay that has a restaurant called Rosie's that makes the best chicken in the Bahamas.
You might want to check both out. Walker's Cay has an active airport and was used during world War II for any submarine warfare.

Barracuda are dumb as nails. On a dive off Hatteras they were nibbling at my air bubbles. They look intimating as heck with those teeth. And they are intensely curious. They'll come up to you and stop about 3' away. If you move toward them they will back off and if you move back they will follow, always keeping that buffer space. Pretty good discussion of playing with the genoa and mainsail. The purpose of the genoa is to channel air behind the main when both are set. The main is the primary driving force. Both act like flexible and maneuverable airplane wings. The wind doesn't push you forward, the pressure differential pulls you forward.

I don't remember what it was you guys did for looking for leaks in the tender, but did you try squirting it with soapy water and watching for bubbles? If you have it out of the water completely you could even check the underside that way too. The soap will actually create bubbles that are easy to spot.
