I have a horse that gets cast in her stall all the time. She doesn’t just get to close to the panel, she get her back leg between the pipes and then tries to stand up. I’ve had to have the vet out twice for this in less than two years at $1,200 each time to take X-rays to look for fractures. We put up plywood and she chewed and broke it so then we put up rubber stall mats hung on the panel and she and her neighbor chewed them down. I didn’t want to do chain link because she has front shoes. I found this video and am still in the process of finishing but I finished where she always gets hung up and the problem is solved. The 2x10 boards are strong enough that she can push off them with her back legs without. Breaking the wood and just the fact that the wood is there, keeps her from getting her legs between the pipes. I cannot tell you how much relief this has given me. I wish I could post a video of her getting stuck before following this video so you could see how scary it was. Now if she’s too close, she uses her back legs against the wood and pushes herself away enough that she can get up on her own. What a Godsend!!! It also looks really nice though I opted not to stain my wood because I board my horses and got lazy. Everyone who has seen it at our stables of 300 horses has commented on how good it looks. I guess now I’ll have to do my other horses stall the same way. Thank you so much for this video. This possibly saved my horses life and that horse saved my life.
That is the best thing I've read all week! Such an amazing result. Thank you for sharing! Love to see a picture when you get them all done. So glad you found a solution that saved her any further injury.
I loved the video and want to add some wood to my panels. I have a cribber and i’m curious what you’d suggest i’d do to help reinforce my panels or to deter my horse from cribbing on them. I’d add the wood paneling on the lower halves, but what do you suggest i do about the top rail for a cribbing horse?
Hey. Sorry we didn't see this sooner. Had a cribbing horse before, so I understand the challenge. In terms of top rail I'm not sure. We used a collar to stop our horse. I'm sure you've read these resources, but just in case, here's some reading for you: ceh.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/health-topics/cribbing downunderhorsemanship.com/cribbing/ Hope that helps!
This is brilliant!! Just what we needed for our facility. Thank you for making this video!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
The wood looks really good, unfortunately I have giant beavers but that would be great for my round pin.👍
Oh man! Those beavers would be making a pretty house. But yes, this would look great on a round pen too!

Never mind found it in the description.
No problem! 🤠Let us know if if you have any other questions!
I have four rail panels. Do you think 2x12 lumber would work, or would the gaps be too large? Any other recommendations for the four-rail?
Hi Clark! For 4 Rails, the spacing between each rail is 14 1/4", a 2x12 could work but there would be a little bit of a gap.
What connectors are you using to attach the wood?

What color stain did you use?
