They've tried to use them on Weymouth Tramway (now removed) and the Mid-Hants Railway but they struggled with the steep gradients. It has potential but now we have the converted D78 stock aka Class 230 and 484, which can be converted into any power form. I feel the the Perry People Mover might not take off elsewhere.
The Stourbridge branch line is the shortest in the UK. I remember 20 plus years ago, when they were being developed. There was talk about them being used all over the UK. It never happened. After travelling the Stourbridge branch a few times I can see why. You can just about tolerate them for 3/4 mile. Anything more would be too uncomfortable!
Hi Jen, Just watched your ride on the Stourbridge Town Shuttle, it is quirky, the only type like it in the country. I to have ridden on this and quite enjoyed the experience...my ride was around 3 years ago now, whilst trade plating around the country...went to almost as many places as you... Take care Jon B.
Thinking about this, I would how many other regions have had similar small trains? Obvs in the midlands there's this, plus we had the old (better, but unreliable) Maglev at BHX - also was there a monorail at Merry Hill.
@@JenOnTheMove I missed out on the MonoRail (although used the one at Alton Towers which was pretty much the same thing) I used the Maglev a lot though as I was a Plane Spotter back in the 80's - maybe I shouldn't admit to that!
If memory serves me correctly, those trains use to operate on Bristol's harbour front before moving to Stourbridge. I think that this was either 1980s or 1990's. Thank you for another great video. Francis
The Stourbridge line is a lovely quirky line but the Class 139s are worse than a Pacer.... even a coffee would not change my mind. However it is a lovely video Jen.
Boo! How can you not like the 139, Jen? It’s so cute! Plus, you can see out of the front, like you used to be able to in the Good Old Days. I did like the brief glimpse of George.
The class 139PPM is either the worlds cutest train or the worlds bumpiest train or all of the above. Also I've attempted to see George twice but both times I've done it, he was sitting in the ticket office.
I love the Stourbridge Shuttle I’ve ridden it a few times now. I think it’s a really cute little train and that they should use it on other small branch lines as Vicky also said in All the Stations. My only complaint about the shuttle is it’s quite bumpy! I still haven’t seen George the Station cat either. Great video Jen!
I love the 139s. I've done the branch twice, once on each unit, except both were pre-WMR refurb/relivery and before the track was relaid. I've done all stops between there and Moor St, so whenever I'm back in the area, I'll do into Moor St from the other direction and try to do this shuttle again, as well as working down to worcester.
Jen I must admit I had never heard of the Parry People Mover until today, but I have travelled on quite a few Pacer trains. I still love the Pacer trains and it's a shame they have now been withdrawn from service. I love the bravery of whoever ordered these people movers and persevered with them until this day. I know the Pacer trains were supposed to be a cheap way to build a new type of train by using what was basically a bus and these were in regular service until quite recently. I expect a trip to Stourbridge is on the cards?
Its a one of a kind service, can't think anywhere else that would be able to effectively use a PPM. I like it. BTW what stabiliser so you use for your camera? I need one!!
I was there a week later and didn't see George at all. Ride quality was so bad I could envisage people getting seasick. Also, the train is so long, there wasn't time for the driver to change ends in the 2 minute turnaround, so there was a different driver at each end.
Did I see a brand new Class 196 Civity or was that a Class 172 Turbostar in West Midlands Railway livery. I definitely do want to take a ride on the Class 139 People Parry Mover.
If there's no coffee, is it even worth leaving the house? I'll allow you to drink tea 😅 (shhhhhh, but occasionally there's tea or hot chocolate in them coffee cups! I'd be _so_ hyperactive if I drank as much coffee as the internet thinks I do!)
Oh damn you do the music? I thought it was so unique and matching the tone of your videos so well! (Also goddamn how come all us trans girls are amazing multi instrumentalists? Well I don’t think I’m any more than adequate.. but damn you’re definitely amazing) Edit: oh crap I read your Twitter bio, is that just aimed at cis people (I don’t wanna talk about it with them either) or is it just a totally forbidden topic for you,
This service would not of been bumped off like the 144 First Midland Red service as this train service is with in the West Midlands Combined Authority area and is subsidised like all the Train services in the West Midlands County Area by the West Midlands Combined Transport Authority governed by the West Midlands Mayor Andy Street who is championing Rail Travel in the West Midlands County and if you live in the West Midland area and you have a senior Citizens travel pass you can use it on these trains, so ever OAP who travels on these trains with there pass, West Midlands Trains gets money off the West Midlands Combined Authority unlike the 144 which I believe is solely run by First Bus
When this was filmed, Bryn didn't have his own channel to promote - but now he does!
Go subscribe to him! th-cam.com/users/Bryn2k
Totally subscribed!
Have subscribed to his channel.
The people mover is the better version of a bus on rails
Jen’s demands are many! No delivery no jingle. I remember when “real" trains ran on the line.
Riding a class 139 on the Stourbridge Shuttle is like going down a cobbled street in a supermarket trolley 🤣
With a wobbly wheel for good measure!

Optare Metrorider vibes going on there 👩🏻🔧

I miss the Merry Hill monorail! Went on it a fair amount as a little one!

Interesting little vehicle - I've been on it a couple of times and it was quite wobbly.

That is NOT a Train, but a Tr.
😀😀😀😀

I had a lot of love to give to him, but he missed out!
Bristol docks use to have one of these late 90s early 00s and it know as a rail bus

Love the banter in this video… defo think Bryn needs a jingle (Lancashire hotpots style) and the people mover was just weird 🤣🤣
It's so cute, how could you not like it 😉. I'm going to have to make the trip down to give it a go.
brilliant video

Stourbridge Ring Road on the station wall there 🙂
"Let's go look at the ring road"
*forgets to go look at the ring road*
Hi all smooth running now ,due to replacement wheels and axle, thanks for your support.
Interesting video but i agree Jen, that's not a train.
You forgot to mention that it's the shortest train in the UK travelling on the shortest branch line in Europe ps I adore them
3:35 When a man promises you a Wimpy and then doesn't deliver *facepalme* How _do_ you put up with it all, Jen!
Its a one of a kind service, can't think anywhere else that would be able to effectively use a PPM. I like it. BTW what stabiliser so you use for your camera? I need one!!
I just use a GoPro, and that's it's own stabilisation, it's phenomenal!
Why did they take the front end design cue from a FIAT Multipla?
Thought they upgraded the track a short while back and the ride is much better.than it was. Is it still jointed track?
I was there a week later and didn't see George at all. Ride quality was so bad I could envisage people getting seasick. Also, the train is so long, there wasn't time for the driver to change ends in the 2 minute turnaround, so there was a different driver at each end.

I appreciate the coffee-centric content of your videos. (You won’t respect me less if I tell you I’m actually a tea drinker, will you?)
@@JenOnTheMove ,shhhhh 🤫 You don’t want to ruin your reputation! 😆
To be honest I can see this train will be scrapped soon and made a bigger one
I'm sure I've read somewhere it may be incorporated into an extended Midland Metro from Brierley Hill to Stourbridge
It's a glorified bus
Why must it always be Costa? Do you have shares in the company?
No, but I do have shares in Greggs 😂
Looks like a bus. Nothing wrong with buses, but ……
