His name is Gerardo, not Rico Suave. The "Rico" means rich and the "suave" means smooth. And I was a young teenager when this came out. Dad used to translate the words for me, but now that I'm in my 40s I understand more of the meaning behind certain things. I was too innocent as a teen to get the meaning of at the time.
"Rico" does mean rich, but it can also mean Hot or Attractive.
