Because when the government takes away telework for their employees, they lose the ability to be more selective with the candidates that they hire. If everyone has to work in the office, you lose access to the best candidates outside of a 50-mile radius. That’s why.
They pay taxes too bright one btw the federal buildings we all pay for them to lease makes the federal salary look like nothing 😂 I know using your brain cells after eating paint chips and sniffing glue is hard for you but please try to keep up!
The government offices don't have enough equipment or space to accommodate their employees. A lot of positions were duplicated and made remote after 9/11 to maintain stability during an emergency.
Precisely. And the Social Security administration, which is massively understaffed now, is no exception. Some of their offices don’t even have space, telephones, equipment for everyone to be working the same hours in person on site. Social Security retirement claims and disability claims are now taking twice as long with hundreds of thousands of backlogs. Teleworking has destroyed a lot of small businesses that are in the downtown core of our cities. As someone who has teleworked. I would go back to the office full time without complaint if forced to.
restaurants?? but shouldn’t people be saving money and eating more healthy at home? Americans go to restaurants way too often as it is. Eating out every day is so much less healthy than eating at home not to mention so much more expensive. that’s one of the great benefits of working at home. cooking your own food is much cheaper and much more healthy. Second only to greater productivity and greater physical and psychological health and reduction from stress and all the diseases it causes. Commuting is an incredible waste of time if it’s possible to avoid it. And yes, of course pollution is increased as well.
Go back to work? Where did this false narrative come from that just because you are working from home your not working? I have always met all my deadlines and work assignments so why is the government so vested where I meet those expectations if they are getting done. Some remote workers work out of a hotel and drive a rental car to their office, plus receive a per diem) 300+ days a year ($10k month) paid by the tax payers 🤣🤣🤣. If they worked from their home, taxpayers would only pay their $95k salaries. I've seen warehouses and cruise ships being rented for $20k a month. And if the manager doesn't spend the money, they are penalized😂 fema.
As a recent higher, Non DEI, I see good and bad. I already work 3-4 days in the office and use my remote days to get some deeper work done uninterrupted. Many times I need to write documents or really think about longer term plans after our useless meetings. Working from home a day or two a week allowed me to focus on that and not worry about an hour commute each way. I also tended to work more than 40 hours because of the ability to work additional as needed. With this new mandate, I'm inclined to go leave work at the office. So no more on the spot work or emergency work. My work email will not be checked outside working hours any longer. Nor will I work at all from home. Turning my home office into a gym now. Not all bad. Just hope that their intent to get rid of the fat doesn't cut into the muscle.

And though my wife enjoys her three days per week working at home (and would hate to see it go), she understands the reasoning behind this mandate and is more than willing to comply with the new directives.
@gbyrne-mj7mf You both have winning mindsets. Adapting and moving forward with a great attitude. People with an attitude like that most likely worked just as hard at home as it would in the office. Not all people are like that though, which I guess is obvious.
I'm sure she is happy to add needless commute just to do the same job she could do at home. And I'm sure you are going to pick up the slack, like helping around the house and making dinner on those 3 days your wife now has to waste commuting.
That’s great, as long as you don’t complain about the commute or the extra time and money wasted on it in the future. Just remember that you support it.
You should not support this. My father is going to lose thousands from this and will be forced to cut back on expenses. The only ones who should choose if this is a good decision are the ones actually affected, not the Trump meat riders.
The single largest employer in the world at 3+ million employees; the United States Government. ALL paid with OUR tax dollars, they seem to forget that. Before he stopped federal hiring, an additional 100,000 new people were hired every month. It’s out of control. His EO stated IF the supervisor and the individual can prove that working remotely/ from home is because of a documented disability or predetermined authorized reason and they can prove it, they will be allowed to continue the position. Read the entire EO before reporting on it.
@ Replying to: @daviddee7103 I hope you understand that Federal Employees pay a lot more Federal Taxes than you. First we revisit my basic comment: The single largest employer in the world is the US Government, at 3+ million employees. On average the federal government added 100,000 new employees per month during the Biden / Harris years. *Granted this increase has been going on under both parties, no one is innocent in this BUT this administration is at least trying to curtail this out of control system. First, the claim that federal employees “pay a lot more taxes”; the federal income tax brackets are the SAME for federal employees .v non-federal employees. Going to the IRS website is a simple check on this. Your statement is false. The average wage of employees as of 2025 Federal = $106,462.00 per year (106K) Non Fed = $63,795.00 per year. (63k) *THIS IS a 40% HIGHER average pay rate than those that pay your salary. Let’s get into that should we. Every single penny that is used to pay for your salary and ALL the benefits that you enjoy ARE PAID for by the tax payers. *The irony is that you as well pay taxes on a salary that is paid for by taxes. Now the numbers; The programs being instituted to eliminate or at the very least scale down on the largest single employer in the world and what we could gain from that. Lets start at a 1/3 draw back 1 million employees = $1.06 Trillion dollars PER YEAR SAVINGS The federal government provides a pension plan for its employees, this is in addition to your Social Security Retirement plan, meaning you can collect from both. The FRS that you are offered is an offset with SS BUT, the FRS is NOT subject to the open use of funds like the SS Benefits Plan is. As we see that Congress continually takes money from this for other “non-appropriated” funding, a slush fund that is never paid back. YOUR pension plan IS NOT open to congressional spending, it IS protected, not so social security. The ability to receive a lifetime retirement from that pension begins at the 5 year mark. Though this is a very low percentage of wages, (beginning at 5 year’s, it goes up from there) this does not exist in the civilian world. You can collect form both the FRS and SS, not an option in the civilian world. We can go further into your benefits; The federal union and its direct lobbying to congress, which by the way is also under these federal programs. A lobby for federal employees that lobbies the very same people that are under the same union that then writes laws to protect the employees that the same union represents. Do you see the circle of life here….. In the end all that these programs are attempting is to eliminate subpar or non needed employees of the US Government and or just have you come into the office to do the job that you were hired for. Any business in the world has the right to make sure that what they are getting is what they are paying for, simple.

Read the entire EO before reporting on it.
I hope you understand that Federal Employees pay a lot more Federal Taxes than you
@ Replying to: @daviddee7103 I hope you understand that Federal Employees pay a lot more Federal Taxes than you.
First we revisit my basic comment:
The single largest employer in the world is the US Government, at 3+ million employees.
The average wage of employees as of 2025
Federal = $106,462.00 per year (106K)
Non Fed = $63,795.00 per year. (63k)
*THIS IS a 40% HIGHER average pay rate than those that pay your salary.
Lets start at a 1/3 draw back
1 million employees = $1.06 Trillion dollars PER YEAR SAVINGS
The federal government provides a pension plan for its employees, this is in addition to your Social Security Retirement plan, meaning you can collect from both.
