FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Lebowski who insists on being called "the Dude," a laid-back, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money -- resulting in the Dude having his rug soiled, sending him spiraling into the Los Angeles underworld.

I love how Walter goes from 0 to 120 and then very quickly back to 0, calmly saying "It's a league game, Smoke."

The way Walter screams "Over the line!" after a nonchalant conversation makes me laugh
Try looking only at Steve Buschemi in the background through the entire scene. His mimic and reactions are both magnificient and hilarious, a pure gem hiding in plain sight throughout the whole thing. I love the way he just slides out of the situation when Walter pulls out the piece.
Seen this movie literally over 100 times and never paid attention. What a masterpiece of a film.

It’s like watching Larry in a Three Stooges short and Zeppo in either of the first five Marx Brothers movies.
I've always loved the detail that after Walter has made his point, he takes out the magazine and empties the chamber before he puts it back in the bag, making sure that its unloaded, safety first, meaning that when he was pointing the gun at Smokey with his finger on the trigger, he was not in fact, f*cking with Smokey and Walter would have shot him if he marked it 8.
Yup I immediately noticed that. And he initially didn’t have a round in the chamber when he pointed the 1911 at him

@@DoctorChained Agreed, you need to have the hammer cocked on a 1911 to fire a round - there's no double action mechanism on it. You generally also wouldn't lower the hammer on a live round with a 1911 so it was likely un-chambered.

The little dog jumping and barking, as if it's trying to de-escalate the situation and help Walter to calm down, just adds more hilarity to the scene!

John Goodman is legit one of my favorite actors since I was a kid, I watched The Flintstones film and Monsters Inc. But I won't lie that whenever he does the more adult material he can be hilarious or even very scary and intimidating, I never saw The Big Lebowski but this scene here makes me want to check out the film.

Never have I ever seen a more quotable movie masterpiece in my life. This movie gets mentioned and myself and 1-3 other people in the room will immediately quote spar and laugh and everyone else will stare. Doesn’t matter where I am, people I’m with….1-3 always know this movie by heart.
The good bad, ugly is the other most quotable
Goodman deserved an Oscar nomination for this. One of the greatest comedic performances of all time.
I think I was usually laughing too hard to notice he unloads and unchambers it after. He really was ready to blast Smokey
The attention to detail with unchambering after unloading really makes the scene for me!
And straightening his vest.
Yeah the whole taking the clip out and getting the bullet out too is such a nice detail. People may think Walter is a crazy psychopath, but he takes care to do firearm safety properly at the end. Only strange thing was he was safe in unchambering, but his trigger discipline was bad since you really don't want your finger on the trigger with a live round in unless you're going to fire.

I went to see this with my girl freind at the time and she hated this and wanted to leave the theatre ,but I was blown away. Also saw fear and loathing with a different girl who also hated that and wanted out , i just couldnt believe it and they ended up as two of my favories of the decade for sure. The movies not the girls of course
But then they'll drag you to something like Love Actually and act like it's the best thing since The Godfather, chicks amirite
I saw this in the theater as well with a buddy of mine and my older brother. We went to visit my brother at college and got high on the way into town before meeting him.
Picked this movie at random. None of us had heard of it before.

The fact that Walter "makes safe" his weapon just shows how much attention the Coen Brothers pay to the details.
The quotability of every single phrase in this scene (and for that matter in the whole movie) is plain amazing.
Walter is so similar to my father mix with my uncle it’s scary. Looks like him, talks like him, got angry about stuff like this. So intense.
Goodman is just incredible as Walter, so funny.

In the Russian translate there is just “it’s going to hurt. It’s going to hurt A LOT” I think it’s even more terrible.
The best part is when they're casually having a conversation while leaving the bowling alley after this scene. You can see the cops come sliding into the parking lot in the background.
@@fedormaximoff6587 Somehow "entering a world of pain" sounds better to me. Like, yeah it's going to hurt a lot, but it's a whole other world and you have NO IDEA how much it will hurt. It makes your imagination run wild like, that dude is so crazy he could do just about anything to me and take his time doing it... Walter sure had some serious issues.

Yup. I think Jeff told the story about how when they started filming he wasn't sure if he was doing a good job or if they really wanted him because he never got rewrites of the script. He voiced his concern to John, and John laughed and then told him, "This is a Coen Brothers movie. There are no rewrites."
These guys have done some amazing films between them, but I feel this is the best film they've both ever done, its a real classic.

This scene is better than I thought. He gives the impression that he cares about the rules, the dog, or even his ex, but his actions prove that the only thing he cares about is the next petty win.
Not really, it means that he is a man gothernrd by systems, and these systems are the only thing helping him cling to his sanity. The win might be petty, but it helps him not think about things in life he had to think, but can not. What a sorry state to be in, both for you and for everyone around you.
