I think as coaster nerds, we can’t make a good list for this. It would be interesting to do a poll of random people to see what they know. I’d say they Disney, Sea World, and Universal parks would dominate name recognition. Also, it isn’t a single ride, but everyone who has ever been to a Six Flags park knows Batman the Ride, which is effectively the same model. The Cyclone would definitely still make it on this list, maybe still Kingda Ka and the Beast too.
Yeah I agree, most people only know about the coasters they’ve been on, and that usually includes their home park, some of the Disney and Universal park coasters, and maybe some of the super record breaking rides. My GP friends all know Kingda Ka and Space Mountain, but they have no clue what any of the cedar point coasters are.
In my personal opinion, Velocicoaster Is my favorite coaster of ALL TIME. The very fast movement on the second launch, the drop, and the mosasaurus roll just makes this ride absolute perfection. At first I was nervous on riding this, but now I feel like I could ride it every second I’m at universal. I even got the shirt which I have not regretted buying. If I had to rate this out of 10, It would break my scale. As one of this biggest Jurassic Park and World fans, I approve of this ride.
I'm glad to see Matterhorn on here. I got on the left side just as the park closed and it was seriously one of the most wild and surreal experiences on a coaster I've ever had. It felt so much faster than what should be physically possible, and I was genuinely surprised that everything ended up in one piece when the ride was over. I grew up going to Disneyland as a kid but often overlooked Matterhorn. But now I gotta say that it's my favorite ride in the whole resort by far. After that memorable ride, I got off speechless because of how unbelievably janky it was. The whole time I felt no sense of safety at all but that's why I loved it sooo much. Not sure when I'll be back, but I'm going to marathon that ride whenever I get the chance.
1. Millennium Force (The first Giga) 2. Top Thrill Dragster (The first 400 foot Coaster) 3. The Beast(The longest Wooden Coaster)4. Steel Vengeance(The best coaster ever built so far in history) 5. Thunderbird( The best wing coaster).........These are the most iconic coasters in my opinion.
@@deathbackwards7850 that's YOUR OPINION and obviously National Champions has their opinion. Try respecting other people's opinion instead of making it about you. I actually prefer Thunderbird over Voyage as well.
My iconic coasters are Revolution at Bobbejaanland (Belgium) because if the longest train of the world and it was one of the first inside coasters. Also 'De Vliegende Hollander' at Efteling (The Netherlands) is iconic because of you sit in a ship, the track layout (50% water) and off course great theming. Maybe you can make a top 10 of best theming coasters of the world? Looks interesting for me, because the best theming coasters are in Europe i think.
The Beast is special! Like you said, a night ride is the best! When I rode it in 2021 and 2018, it beat the crap out of me. I’m glad they re-tracked it for last year.
Dude, I literally thought the top 10 most iconic roller coasters would be a great video and picked the same no. 1 as well as the same top 4 but in a different order. So glad to see the video I desired come to fruition
Not that long ago I found photos from a family trip to Towers in October 1994. I mainly remember my brother crying at the roar through the helix, I wasn’t allowed to ride it :( though I had ridden The Big One earlier in the year. I love my parents logic, 7 year old can cope with a hyper but going under the track? Nope.
On a more local scale, I think Efteling’s Python is really iconic. It’s the textbook definition of a rollercoaster and it was also the first coaster with this many inversions on the European mainland. It really changed the trajectory of Efteling, and probably many other European parks forever.
Just to compare with ArieForce and Expedition G-Force, GaleForce is another ride that changed Castaway Cove. Almost nobody heard or made the trek there while in Jersey (also known as a nobody or an underdog) but that ride not only changed Castaway Cove, but the town of Ocean City, NJ forever, and it’s seeing a boost in tourism compared to Wildwood and Seaside Heights.
Great list! So the only coaster I would have included would have to be the original Batman BM or Kumba BM. I was a mega enthusiasts when these came out and all everyone talked about were these two rides for many years!!
This is a fun list! While taking in consideration that ‘iconic’ means it’s well known by the grand public, I would have put the Santa Monica Pier coaster on the number one spot. It can even be found as inspiration for rollercoasters in artworks and videogames. Also, I would have put multiple Disneyland coasters on the 2-3 spot. Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain. Furthermore, as a European person this list would probably look very different for us than for Americans. But it’s fun to have a few on this from an American person.
Great video my dude. I can t wait to ride coasters in 2023. So many great ones and new ones. Which one do you want to ride the most this Summer? Also love the Space Mountain pick. Ric Flair helped make this one legendary and I wish more coaster channels acknowledge this. Type in Ric Flair Space Mountain and it will all be clear. Wooooooooo!
Kingda Ka deserves more respect. It’s extremely rough usually, but the front is completely smooth. Front seat is a great experience with an amazing launch and plenty of floater air.
As a uk enthusiast, seeing nemesis here is so nice to see. Not really too sure why space mountain is so popular to be honest, but it’s disneys main coaster icon. Great video mark!
Iconic and popular are two different things! Iconic to me would be a park defining coaster. The Beast, Space Mountain, Matterhorn, Kingda Ka and the Cyclone all qualify. I would have filled out the list with the Big One at Blackpool, Smiler at Alton Towers, Big Apple Coaster at NY NY, Leap the Dips at Lakemont, Jack Rabbit at Kennywood. Expedition Ge Force gets an honorable mention, along with Zadra, Voyage, Wildfire, Formula Rosa, and maybe Steel Dragon 2000
@@OtakMilans as being park defining-absolutely. Zadra put Energylandia on the map for enthusiasts. Voyage absolutely defines Holiday World. Wildfire at Kolmarden is absolutely shocking-it’s a zoo.
@@GamerBen87 Balder and Colossus were built first so I would have included one of them. I don’t think El Toro defines Great Adventure-it isn’t record breaking or the first of its kind,
I think I would’ve changed 2 and 3 but other than that I completely agree. It could’ve been that I read the R. L. Stine book as a kid, and then I moved to Cincy a few years later
Yeah 1 & 2 either Space Mountain or Cyclone. Space Mountain because of the show building and it's at the top three attended and aspirational parks, plus Paris and Hong Kong. Ok, same could be said about Big Thunder but...Space Mountain.
To be fair, the Disney World version of space mountain is the older and more iconic iteration of the ride, but the list was very good. Only West Coaster was the only one I could think of not there
There are some i wouldn’t call so iconic because not many people know them. Something I think should be on here is the santa monica west coaster and I think some things that are on here maybe shouldn’t be but nice video
Interesting list, I would've include Formula Rosssa too. I got asked about it so many times from GP's, like if I know it, if I've ridden it and stuff like that. So I would put it on spot 1 or 2 cause it's simply the coaster I get asked about the most from GP's. But I think it depends on your location too. For example here were I live, every GP knows Taron or Black Mamba, because they live nearby Phantasialand and know them from beeing there and also from advertisments and stuff like this. The GP in southern Germany knows Silver Star and Blue fire and in nothern Germany everyone knows Colossos. But I don't think many of them know let's say something like the Coney Island Cyclone. So it's so hard do define the most famous coaster, cause it depends so hard on where you live. But definitely a nice Video idea, really enjoyed that!
from an american coasterfan perspective this probably makes some sense but form a european view, this list is very weird. nemesis and not python, or no btm for example?
While I agree with space mountain being at the #2 spot, part of me is a little disappointed you didn't choose the one at magic kingdom since that was the original.
I think iconic automatically implies that's its highly recognizable. So GP recognition has to be a major factor. That said, there are clearly a few on here that are more iconic within the industry than they are necessarily household names.
I don't think this list is very accurate for a gp standpoint. People who don't know coasters would probably list the following: Any Schwarzkopf looper Any Woodie with PTC trains Any Intamin with they triangle style track Any old skool vekoma/arrow looper Space mountain Interestingly enough gp doesn't think of alpine coasters as rollercoasters.
Man, I just don't get the Millennium Force hype. I did not enjoy it at all when I went a few years ago and it was painful. I'd rather ride something like Fury 325 at Carowinds all day long.
Personaly I heavily disagree with nemisis and expadition g force mainly because I don't think they are nearly as well known to the GP. Nemisis probably isn't even the most iconic nemisis in the uk as inferno got featured in a popular show called the inbetweeners. 3. The Beast

Kinga Ka has gotten much better over the last few years. You actually get crazy ejector on that hill now, you used to get no airtime.
You need to check out the 'Leviathan' at Canada's Wonderland in Toronto, ON. There's a 300+ ft initial drop and multiple humps and loops after!
The first rollercoaster at Bakken is highly iconic

Batman the ride
