Against the Phantom Enemy: Battle of Okinawa - Part 5

While fierce fighting raged in southern Okinawa, a different kind of war unfolded in the north. Despite the 6th Marine Division's rapid advance through the rugged, densely forested terrain, their progress was deceptively easy, for the harsh and isolated landscape presented unique challenges. Marines faced constant harassment from scattered Japanese troops and irregular guerrilla forces in a war without a clear front line, culminating in the brutal battle for Yae-Take, where Marines fought against a phantom enemy.
