National Route 297 is a general national highway that runs from Tateyama City in Chiba Prefecture to Ichihara City via Katsuura City.
It runs across the Boso Peninsula from north to south, and is the main road to the southern part of Ichihara City and the Sotobo area. The section from the starting point, Tateyama City, to Katsuura City is heavily used by National Route 128, which runs along the Pacific coast, so the apparent single section is the Katsuura City section of the route that crosses the Boso Peninsula from Sotobo to Uchibo. The road runs from the Sumina intersection to the end point, the Ichihara Wharf entrance intersection on Yawata Kaigandori, Ichihara City, and is nicknamed ``Otaki Kaido.'' In Ichihara City, there is the Ichihara Bypass, which connects with the Tateyama Expressway Ichihara IC.
