I've always dug a NorCal styled bike -- no rake, not too much fork extension, "frisco-mounted gas tank," a cobra seat (tuck n roll pattern), drag bars on taller risers, no sissy bar, mid controls mounted a little higher than stock, and lots of chrome. Whenever you're doing a build, install a decent front brake.

The best was the black one on the road.....and it was actually road worthy(riding worthy), most of those probably never get rode because ...... well who wants to sit on a hardtail without a springer seat, ok ok they would be fine on a smooth race track
One thing I saw on a custom, many yrs ago is the oil tank mounted on the rear fender....I loved it
