    Thanks so much for making a video on it! It’s really cool to see it on the channel and I’m surprised at how easy it was to come apart, I expected it to be a nightmare!… also thanks for using the yellow mat, I love it! Thanks so much again for all the videos you make, I watch every single one ☺️

      Every day is a school day so they say. I think one of Vince's best videos was the omega watch. I think I would have called it a day (or wrote some code on a small microcontroller to do the same job) but his creatively on that one was outstanding! (Also he did give me a shout out on that one too so another reason why it's one of my favourites).

    Nice little fix Vince 👍. I'd probably have replaced the switch with a new just in case the fault re-occurred on the old switch. Looks like your finger is doing a bit better!

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I do have some of these switches as well Mick, but I keep forgetting about them. I think the lid/button might be higher on the spares I have. I need to buy a wider range of them as they always seem to fail on various products.
      Finger healing well. I have the bandage off now which feel great, but I won't be able to work on the car for a few weeks yet as it is still very tender. Hope your keeping well health wise👍

    I’ve got a BeatsPill & I use mine all the time at work while cleaning. It’s so portable & works well. The only thing I had to repair on mine was the rubber rings on the speakers as they deteriorated over the years of use & age but some speaker glue fixed that problem. 👌🏼

    Repairing that style button is usually a fools errand on anything that you intend to actually use. They get crushed down, like you noticed. Eventually the disc loses its spring and it either exhibits always on or always off, depending on the internal construction.
    My wife wore out the timer button on our stove. I bought the replacement control board for $90. Once I replaced it, I saw this style button. I cross referenced them, $.10 on Digikey.

    @thomasives7560 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Hi Vince, great repair video. That failure is quite common in *cheap* momentary switches. That contamination you saw was flux that wicked up into the switch because it is not hermetically sealed at the leads. I have seen this issue on production lines, the solution is to either use better switches or do a better post-solder wash (both are equally expensive). It is sad that a $200 device is using sub-one-cent switches - more money for Dre, I suppose! The internal construction was also very how-ya-doin' - not good 'nuff for Straya ;) Love the channel and the content. Cheers!
    p.s.: The major electronics vendors sell switches that are much better (C&K, Grayhill, etc) and cost under 50c/ea in quantities of ten, so I'd recommend spending a fiver and getting a few spares.

  • @sdjmchattie

    Nice fix! I can’t work out how those volume buttons are working via only two connections? Surely you’d need at least three to detect button pressed on two buttons? The only thing I can think is that maybe the buttons are connecting different resistors into a circuit that picks them up on the main control board? Or diodes that allow the current flow one way or the other. That would stop both buttons being useable at the same time though. Which is fine for volume buttons I guess. Any thoughts?

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't notice that, but there's an arduino shield that has buttons and an lcd and it uses different resistance values to detect what button is pressed. I've also seen it done with diodes too as you said.

    • @ralphj4012
      @ralphj4012 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe (I may be wrong) that this product uses a TPA3116D2 stereo amp IC which includes a potential divider gain / volume control (implemented here as switched resistor values working in combination with a ramp generator included in the amp IC).

Although I could have installed any lithium battery of the same rating, I chose to gut it for the speakers only.
