I really needed this. I ignored my overtraining symptoms and now I have amenorrhea and osteopenia. I have a exercise addiction specially with cardio and I haven’t stopped in almost 5 years also on top of undereating. Not working out makes me very depressed and feel out of shape but It got to a point where I feel nauseas , depressed, exhausted everyday before even going to the gym.
thanks bros. i have been overtraining i believe. my sleep has been off and on. yesterday i overtrainined an exercise and was shaky. tired, weak. my body was saying slow down. i will take a few days off. let my body recover. then progress again. even if it's just a 5 min workout .
I find life puts no training opportunities into my life. Vacationing in summer, work training/seminars/courses. I don’t resent these breaks and now look at them as necessary to keep my overall healthy gains. I will do exercises that I enjoy still with my wife and dog such as walks, kayaking, mountain biking.
This is going to help me a lot. I trust you as a trainer. So for the first time ever I’m going to do a de load week starting tomorrow. I’ve been training in the 8-12 rep range I was going to go on a 5x5 phase and eliminate my once a week HIIT but I’m going to de load first. Maybe I’ll do 3 more weeks of 8-12 after the De load but I’ve been wanting to try 5x5 soon anyway, then do 15-20, then 1-3 rep range, and then back to my fav 8-12. Before all this I only did circuits and supersets I’ve gotten so strong the last few months
What if after taking a break and realizing it isn't overtraining, what are the other "something else" possibilities? I am struggling with making gains.
I found out I was over-training by getting covid. Forced me to take a week and a half off, came back sure I was going to be weaker, but I was stronger in every lift.
I have been taking really long rest days between my workouts, somewhere around 7-10 days , i do only light cycling on the rest days. Usually around day 6 my soreness is gone , i take few day more and my energy is back . But the thing is i did my workout yesterday but i feel like crap today , but i was stronger than usual yesterday, so i ended up taking all my excercises to failure as i do only one set(including Compound movements)

No I ended up getting insomnia for about 3 months due to that. Long story short for me supersets raise my cortisol and ended up having shit sleep or no sleep .Took me a bit to figure it out.
Depends on how serious the overtraining was. But one week is usually enough to get rid of all the built up fatigue. You can still exercise/hike/bike etc during that time. Just no high intensity strength training. I usually take that time to do stuff like mobility, stretching or practicing form on new exercises with very light weights.
@@bensonvong Yea i took a week off and just walked. My sleep returned on day 4, and then i had two great nights of sleep, so on day 7, i decided to work out again (lifting) and the insomnia came right back!
Our ancestors would have been considered overtraining by catching food most of the day while being stressed. But yet they all managed to catch food within that day. Overtraining does not exist.

I'm generally very consistent with training, so every 3 months or so I take a week off. I always feel much better when I come back.
really? During the 3 months how many days do you rest

It's amazing that I have to focus on not over training. Training is like a drug to me!

That's what I'm going through now. I currently have Covid & am taking a week off. Hopefully when I get back to working out, I'll feel good.

How do you know if you're overtraining though? Also if you do stop abruptly, how long will it take to know if you are benefiting?

Overtraining does not exist.
Overtraining is the point where your accumulated fatigue surpasses your ability to recover. No recovery = no gains.
