Same. If everyone used medium or better we could easily see 200% fps gains in crowded worlds. It really matters. It's the difference between being able to play or not. Because some people can't handle under 30fps

For heavier avis that cant look right as fallbacks i use the sillhoute method; fallback is just a black less than 1kb texture and "silhouette" of whatever avi it is (I only use this incase the process of making a fallback would take too long)
I ended up spending a lot of time trying to find a quest version of an avatar I like, then spent even longer decimating the model as much as possible without losing too much detail specifically so I could use it as a fallback. Glad I did though, I hated being a generic fallback avatar to quest users. I guess now imposters are a thing, but even my fallback looks better than most of the imposters do. But imposters are a help I guess if you don't want to go through all the trouble, or simply don't know how.
You could have ~6 of such avatars in one session before running out of VRAM lol. It should be Bellow 200mb. If you actually optimize it, then it should easily be max 100mb. You don't need 8k textures etc lol

Making that avatar well is hard because it takes knowledge and understanding that doesn't just touch the surface of BASIC unity and blender knowledge. People are sloppy and unskilled or speed running it because they will sell it and dont care. I'm not blaming people ofc... But people are no game developers or 3d modelers that's for sure.
This IS HARD you should be extremely proud of yourself, that's less than half it was before, being able to do that without losing too much quality is super impressive.

once i learn all the vrchat unity functions i will probably end up making a corona virus type character that has the highest poor rating possible in every category. something like 70k/70k polygons, 400/400 bones etc. being lowkey the highest performance hazard in the club.

@@Nesu. Rex alone is bloated AF in polys from what people tell me and stats I've seen, and it's just not my thing as is. My thing is that clothes in general seem to be made with a TON of polys they might not need, sometimes just a sweater being more polys than the avatar it's made for.
As someone who has a diploma in game design, POLY COUNT IS IMPORTANT PEOPLE!! Especially when it comes to animations. I made a animated windmill for a game that didn’t end up getting used. Turns out for some reason the animation of 64ish vertices performing a 180 degree rotation was crashing the game on lower end computers.
@@beastybear4499the 1060 is a decent priced graphics card that still holds up alright. If you want to game in 2023 and don't at least have a 1060 thats kind of on you, save up a bit of money. You don't have to go all out for a 4090
If its poor or better and the quest variation will (most likely) run for the quest users, im uploading it. i dont have the braincells nor sanity at this point to optimize it.
Pretty accurate lol. Even with my avis I sometimes don’t pay attention to the poly count,,, but it’s usually never in the red for me. On pc my Avis are usually green or orange!

meanwhile I care more than anything about performance and quest users, so I will go out of my way to make an avatar work perfectly for both versions =w=
It's actually good to learn this so that you can give yourself and others a better experience, and avoid punishing people for having less money :3 You also learn how to use Unity and Blender better, so if you want to make a game or your own Avatar from scratch, it's a fantastic starting point!
I wish there was a good tool that actually optimized avis without sacrificing much in quality at all. The only thing is like quest converters but they still take a hit to actual quality of the avi. I would gladly accept medium performance rating avatars if there was a tool that can make pretty much any very poor rating avi into one, and I'm pretty sure everyone else would as well. A lot of worlds would run better, and it would save a lot of pc's, and finally a lot of questies could see and interact with damn avis for once cause nobody seems to have a link cable at all for some reason
its not about link cables, some people straight up dont have a PC that can run vrchat also most avatars can be optimized to medium or poor PC rating, if you properly use texture atlases, blendshapes and mesh changers (to add toggles without adding more and more objects). ive seen some very poor avatars that dont even have any crazy features. they have some physbones and a few guns and its Very Poor on PC. its crazy how easily that could be optimized.

Bro, I have some of my Favorite Game, Movie and Tv Show character avatars like Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, James Bond from 007, ETC. And it says Very Poor Me: I DONT GIVE A F- THEY HAVE SO MANY FEATURES AND I LOVE IT
Not gonna lie I feel like VR chat should be really authoritarian with their avatars and make it where they have to follow the maximum or minimum requirements
my highest count was over 2million polys. she was GORGEOUS. i was able to get rid of a LOOOOOT of polys later on by simply removing her jewelry. her watch was DETAILED. like i could have 3d printed her watch and it been completely functional.
This is me now, I uploaded my first one the other day and now I'm working on trying to get her quest compatable. I been failing but i did make it pc only for now. LOL

I'd argue shaders are far far more intensive unless you have a literal insane amount of polys like 1m+
