- University of Michigan Essays (YOUR ONE STOP GUIDE!!)// University of Michigan essays have it all, and this video is the University of Michigan essays your one stop guide to ace this application. My favorite is the University of Michigan community essay because it asks students to talk about their identity while also defining what community means to them. The UMich community essay can be about pretty much any community you belong to but this University of Michigan essay should focus on your contributions. Umich essays also ask the why us prompts. For these U Michigan supplemental essays, you want to focus on how you see yourself living and learning at their institution. How to write the umich supplemental essays is the guide you will receive in this video. As a college essay coach, I work with students on how to write umich essays, and the umich essay prompts are my favorite because once you write these you can use them to recycle content for so many other schools.
Remember, the Michigan supplemental essays focus on you, who you are to others within community and why Michigan. The University of Michigan also places a lot of emphasis on the common app essay. This essay should be complementary to the why this college essay and community; however, make sure to craft a why us college essay that showcases a little of you and a little of them. Your supplemental essays should really have a lot of research backing them. Michigan supplemental essays and the why umich essay, in particular, is asking students to go beyond the Wolverine brand and tell them why they are the best fit for you. @@WriteYourAcceptance I was thinking maybe my asian community or a senior community, as I wanted to study geriatric medicine so I volunteered in senior homes and nursing homes throughout my hs career.
sure that sounds promising. I would make it personal, start with a line about how your community is one you’re an outsider of - because of your age…then zero in on a specific anecdote with a resident there and lessons and your role

Prompt #2 specifically asks about the schools and their curriculums. Would an essay about a student run group at UM motivating my learning apply?
Hi, I would do a combo of both the program/ course(s) and then a student group/ research opportunity...you can do your interests both within and beyond the classroom and how you will advance/ deepen your intellectual pursuits
What is the difference between your role within the community and what you do? Like what would I write for my role compared to what I would write about for what is is I do?
It might not be different…sometimes it conflates other times you can be a translator for elderly patients but you role within the community feels like a bridge connecting patients to better care…so the latter reads more philosophical. Some roles/ responsibilities don’t really leave work for that so no worries if it’s the same
was wondering what tips would you give to someone who didn't have strong experiences with community or anything they identify with strongly that wants to take the approach of talking about their struggles with that lack of experience?
I would say that the goal would be to end up appreciating some sort of community at the end of that essay. It can start there but what’s the lesson, what have you done to building connections and form community. Remember you are essentially applying to be part of their community so saying I’m a loner and community is not for me won’t work IMO
Remember it doesn’t have to be a big community, it can be a group you meet with that’s four ppl with a common interest
is it ok if theres a specific club in michigan that i want to go to and i say that in my why us essay?
yes of course! Remember the prompt is asking a little bit more on curriculum, and how you will access the educational resources there, so make sure to focus on that as well...but yes you can definitely bring in a student org and connect it to something you have done if it's kind of like a continuation of some service you have done already or explain why it is of interest. good luck!
i really need a guidance at this point of my life regarding my college application. i do not have sufficient money to ay for college application fees and my college is not ready to support me with the fee waiver. I am now limited to apply for only 2 universities including michigan. Could you share your thoughts on how to structure the a response to the first question on Business Case Discussion- what kind of problem could we choose, what exactly does business implication mean and what should the solution include ?
the first thing I would consider is your interest in business. What types of business or problems you see around you that you’d like to be a part of - especially of bringing about a solution. I’ve seen students do stuff on food insecurity in the community, about having tech support programs for the elderly, and language programs for immigrants
would say that the most successful have been when a student anchors the topic/ issue on something they have done already or something that is part of their identity in some way.

Hi first find the info. You want to let that guild you and how you structure the essay or at least that section. What’s the major you’re putting on common app?
@@WriteYourAcceptance I’m applying for philosophy and I’ve looked up on some most accomplished professors in the department and the classes they teach, but still feel like missing the details of those classes. Is there any way I can dig deeper? I just feel like I can’t reach the real core stuff and things I found online are mainly just general info
So if you have classes and professor names, I would google those plus the word syllabus to see if you can access their syllabus, get more specific language on what material and what thinkers/ writers they cover…then the more personal factor, for me, happens when students connect that info with something you’ve already learned or discussed in class…so bring yourself into the reasons why this class is of interest then go into maybe a student organization or a symposium that they hosted and show your interest intellectually, behind the classroom

I would not write this in bullet points. They are asking for about 500 words so I would make this an essay format.
