In the 2000s, i was watching stuff like spongebob, fairly oddparents, Dragonball Z, Simpsons, etc. I dont think i saw a full episode of this show again until like...less than a year ago. Obviously, i was waaay too young to truly understand and appreciate this show's absurdist brilliance.

I think in many ways, Jon Arbuckle and Garfield are two sides of a coin embodying a midlife crisis. Garfield is the self-assured, carefree, idealized version of ourselves throughout adulthood and Jon is the unhinged, barely-held-together version of ourselves that we can't easily hide. Odie might be a third side. Perhaps the inner child that's always there, one which we keep pushing off the table in favour of that more cynical Garfield side?
