I loved it when the kid says “I’m pretty much not weirded out now, I’m comfortable”. You can tell in the beginning he was more apprehensive and maybe a bit uncomfortable, but after talking with the wonderful Isabella he understood. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED IN SOCIETY! People understanding other people through communication and exposure. Only through this can we be more comfortable and be less afraid of things/people we don’t understand.

When I first saw this I didn’t know what to think. The drag performer did a superb job of answering the questions that the kids had. Children will eventually be exposed to the LGBT community and this helps them understand this aspect of humanity in a non-threatening environment.
Sexuality including LGBTQ issues are NOT appropriate discussions for kids. Leave the kids alone.
I felt so sad when the rainbow hair kid said his father would tell him to get out of the house. Sometimes as adults we may say things that give a kid the wrong impression. I hope that's the case here. I hope his father is able to talk to him and let him know he will always be loved no matter what he grows up to be. Home is the one place where our children should feel free to be whoever they want to be.

I found this so surprising, because he has rainbow colored hair! The dad clearly doesn't have a problem with that, (Although, I don't know what's going on in the kid's life--perhaps the parents are separated and the mother lets him dye his hair, but the dad isn't OK with it; who knows) so I found it odd that that the child expressed fear about his dad's potential lack of acceptance. Yeah. I'm surprised. There were a few times the kids, esp. the one in the white shirt, rephrased what they said...So as not to offend him. That shows a kind of maturity that a lot of us adults don't even bother to have. Like, the kids realize that they can be weirded out or (just) not understand, but they *still* have to have some level of respect.

I really felt for the kid with the rainbow hair. I see so much of myself in them I just want to give them a hug and let them know that they can do anything.
I really like how Isabella doesn't talk down to these kids. She just talks to them like normal people, which is something I struggle with when faced with talking to kids, because I simply don't know what to say to them/what we would have in common. But Isabella is really good about that, and not to mention the kids had really great questions!
JJay You can pretty much talk normally to kids.
The only thing to remember is that they don't know all words yet. But they're great at pretending and just nodding along, so sometimes you might need to ask if they understand.
For example in this video, I think some of the kids probably had no clue what was meant by 'performing' until they started to talk about dancing and singing.
See, people always say that, I 100% believe that the problem is with me, not the kids I happen to interact with. I just can't get myself to speak normally, because I can barely be anything other than awkward even with adults, so I think at this point in my life I just don't know how to approach a child. I mean I do, logically, but it is SO uncomfortable for me to speak to them because I know I'm being condescending at best, and it's my fault, not theirs. I just have no way to relate to them, and if I can't relate I become very awkward. That's why I admire Isabella so much in this video!
I used to work at Build a Bear, and all my co-workers used to talk to the kids in these high pitched baby voices and it pissed me off. Talk to them like human beings, not like dogs. I always talked to kids like they're my equals.

This was wonderful and really was terrific letting the children explore aspects of things that were new and different but not sexual or scary and definitely not in a way that might change or sexualize them.
Instead, it really seemed to help them explore ideas such as being picked on by mean and unaccepting others. and what the concepts of costumes and performing and taking on different roles in life are about.
I just wish more adults would watch this since they seem a lot more afraid of Drag Queens than children! Then again the children seemed a whole lot smarter than most of the adults that are in the street protesting swearing and tons of other videos denigrating Drag and of course the whole self-serving religious angle.
