Thanks for the great DIY! Not sure if this is just my e46 M3 (145k) but every time I change the trans fluid there seems to be a 400-500 break in period. Once this is done, the shifter feels great but on both flushes I have encountered a rougher feeling shifter until the mileage is achieved. So if this happens to you just drive the car for extended periods and the shifter will feel normal soon. ATF is best option for this car (or e39 M5), I have done MTL and synchromax and ATF is the best for this transmission. 2nd gear clunk is gone. Keep the content coming, as a frequent customer of FCP I still have not found anything to complain about.

I threw some Mobil 1ATF and Blue Devil auto tranny stop leak in my trans, M3 Swap, and it worked, it stop the leak, shifts like butter.

You stated manual at the beginning, is this the same process with the SMG?

There is also an "ATF" cylindrical housing in engine bay next to the oil filter.
It says ATF but my car is a manual. What is that for. Upon opening it looks low on transmission fluid.

great video. Is this the same process for the e46 M3s with the SMG or is there a different process or fluid I would need?

The car should be running when you fill it.

Is there any possibility to top up without any jack? Like we top up the engine oil?

The transmission can only be serviced from underneath!

Does this apply to a SMG too?

What fluid would you recommend for a 2005 330CI with the ZF 6 Speed Manual? I’m getting a lot of different answers!

For normal driving, many people are using a 50/50 mix of Dexron III ATF and 75W-80 MTF.

Hie guys can you please assist me with my car is 2000 model BMW E46 318i Automatic . l think l went pass through a big stone in the road and it hit my gearbox pan folding it upwards but not breaking it and l managed to get home and parked the car .Then the next day l started the car and as l try to put the car in drive it is stopping at the Reverse(R) slot even if you try to force it to reach the neutral (N) and the Drive(D) slot it is bouncing back to the Reverse slot infact its not getting in Neutral nor Drive(D) .I suspected the sound l heard underneath the car yesterday and when l checked underneath l could see the gearbox pan was damaged it has folded a bit upwards but its not linking any transmission oil .My question is can this damage of folding the pan upwards cause the car not to engage in N and D and how can l fix the pan to be straight need you help guys

Hi there, it sounds like the pan has damaged some internal parts of your transmission, keeping you from shifting into gear. We would advise removing the pan and doing a full diagnosis to determine what has been damaged.
