"Leaves on the Vine" should definately be top five, especially when you realize those tears were real, as it was the voice actor's last day of acting due to throat cancer, and the song is actually a tribute to him, as he served in the military.

Took me this long to realize that zuko can't cry out of both eyes. When his father burned his face he destroyed the inner workings of zukos eye and the flesh around it. Including his tear ducts. I thought it was a superficial burn wound growing up. But as an adult I realize now that his burn is really bad. Wouldn't shock me if he couldn't see out that eye.

But Zuko is seen crying out of both eyes buuutttt it could be harder for it to happen cause of the burn. Amon's death along side with his brother's gets even more sad as you realize that Amon is able to detect movement by using the person's blood. He felt his own brother trying to kill him and let it happen. He wanted to die along side his brother.

One of the darker aspects of the scene that no one notices is the split second before it cuts to Amon, it shows Tarrlok inching forward in his seat for a mere half second. This shows that, at first, Tarrlock was planning to get up and neutralize his brother before taking the boat, but quickly realized how monstrous he was and was swept with guilt. Because of this guilt, he decided, in just a few seconds, to kill them both.

there is also something to consider about how Gyatso died, i remember reading this a while back : if you pay attention there are no burn marks anywhere in the room , what probably happened was that he waited for the fire solders to get in and then forced all the oxygen out of the room creating a vacuum sealing the room from the inside and everyone suffocated , because there was no oxygen the solders couldn't use fire and so in his final moments he shows that in order for there to be life there needs to be balance with the elements

You know what I think is dark? The fact that Azula is standing in the crowd, eagerly watching as her father burns her brother's face. That just shows how cruel she is that watching her own brother who never did anything wrong to her being hurt made her happy. If the situations were reversed, Zuko would look away or maybe try to beg their father not to do it, but Azula kept silent and watched with sadistic glee.

I think the moment wenn Amon kidnaps Tenzins family to "rid the world of airbending FOREVER" was pretty dark as well. Especially since this very season showed us that taking away someones bending doesn't end it forever, but only for one generation. And Amon being a strategic mastermind and always 10 steps ahead of anybody else ontop of being in a similar Situation himself would have figured that out. No way he would have just forgotten such an important detail. He knew that, as soon as Tenzins kids get their own children, all his work would be for nothing and I'm pretty sure he would have taken care of Tenzins children Sozin-style.

Korra leaving the portals open left a lot of possibilities and future stories for her successor wide open. I get the feeling that the Red Lotus and some minor spirit attacks were just the beginning of the world overflowing with spirit energy and rising tensions.
Personally, I’d like to see the next Avatar face a black ops global security and defense group willing to use illicit tactics (secret weapons, illegal bending practices, harvesting spirit energy, assassinations, lobotomies, bypassing the governments, etc.) to make the world safe.

The world would be edging closer and closer to war due to the rash actions of powerful humans and spirits alike. Meanwhile, hybrid humans would be shunned and treated poorly by both humans and spirits since they are both. So, hybrids would try to seek autonomy and civil rights using various means. Totally agree with the list, but here's some honorable mentions I would've added.
    LOK:
    - Korra being suicidal after losing her bending (a lot of people don't get it, but that _is_ the reason why she went to the cliff. Aang saved her life in the last moment.)
    - Asami, despite deeply loving her father, choosing team Avatar instead of him and the equalists
    - Asami then watching her father die right after forgiving him in season 4
    - Kuvira choosing her goals over her love and almost killing Bataar Jr.
    - Admiral Zhao being doomed to spend the rest of his days as a crazed, lost soul in the spirit world
    ATLA:
    - Yue. As in everything about her. The whole character is a damn tragedy.
    - Azula subtly threatening to kill Ty Lee if she doesn't change her mind about joining Azula's mission

Dang, watching this made me realise just how dark and mature both these shows were. What gems.
Also I want to say that top on the list for me would definitely have been Tarrlok's murder-suicide. Something that I would like to point out is that, in that moment on the boat, there is a strong resemblance to the position their father, Yakone, was in when he was caught and had to run away in search of a new life. However, while he might have been able to get away, he also brought his grudges along, and even passed them on to his sons. Tarrlok and Amon are now in this exact position, and I want to thinki that Tarrlok realizes that the only way to end this cycle of violence and grudges is to end it with the two of them. Which led to what he did.
It's just such a jarring and shocking thing to realise. It completely flew over my head when I first watched it

Appa's Journey perfectly captured animal cruelty and something about it always resonated with me deeply. A similar theme in Harry Potter was used. Umbridge was planted by Fudge in Hogwarts to tell students that Voldemort wasn't back because Fudge was so scared of what was to come with Voldemort's return which he knew, was the truth.
Similarly with the Dai Li, Long Feng didn't want anyone to talk about the war, as a military strategy, and the Dai Li brainwashed whoever did in Lake Laogai (it could be possible that even the Earth King was too, although, it could be that he was just too ignorant). But again, it was mostly due to fear, especially fear of life and loss of credibility amongst the people.
Azula, well she dismantled that and splendidly

    • @Lauren_210
      @Lauren_210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I also found that similarity when it came to conspiracy plotlines in both series (which pleases me since I am a huge fan of both ATLA and Harry Potter 😊). With Harry Potter, the Ministry of Magic were conspiring against Dumbledore and Harry in regards to Voldemort's return and I personally found the situation worse there because it came to the point that some of Harry's friends/classmates such as Seamus went against Harry and would believe the Daily Prophet and other media sources over Harry himself. At least in ATLA, Aang nor his friends did not have to deal with other allies they knew not believing them about the war and Aang didn't deal with feeling outcasted due to the conspiracy going on in Ba Sing Se unlike Harry where he felt alone during Order of the Phoenix even though he still had Ron and Hermione on his side. Plus, Harry had to deal with seeing Dumbledore (someone he truly respected and looked up to) not being respected as he should be and having his reputation being called in question by the Ministry.

My only complaint would have to be that P'Li's death is way too low on this list given how graphic her death was even if we didn't see it on screen. There was no implication as to what happened. She blew her head up, which has been the most brutal death in the franchise as of so far and I think her death should have been in the top 5 on the list.
I think another dark moment that could have been on the list was Zaheer killing Aiwei in the spirit world. Zaheer threw Aiwei into the Fog of Lost Souls, which is where he is going to wonder in there for eternity and Aiwei will never wake up again in the physical world since his spirit is in the Fog now. Just imagine someone finding Aiwei's body in that room and it could have either been sitting in the same meditation state as he was when he meet Zaheer in the spirit world or that his body just fell to the floor and is dead forever.

Nobody's gonna talk how Zuko was basically ready to commit suicide at that cliff during the storm? He was so emotionally unstable then, plus he wasn't preparing a stance to redirect lightning in the event one hits him. He literally kneeled down and cried. In their universe, natural lightning seems to be a lot stronger than bending-induced ones. A direct hit would've directly roasted and killed Zuko. And he appeared to be ready.

So, exactly how many Avatars have there been? In Korra it's stated that it's been 10,000 years between Wan and Korra. We know of at least 9 named Avatars (Wan, Korra, Aang, and the 6 before him), but we're never given an exact number for the rest of them. Assuming that the humans in the world of Avatar live the same lifespan as humans in real life (around 80 years), there can't have been more then 125 Avatars. But, there are cases where some Avatars like Aang have lived a lot longer then that, so it could be even less the 100.

The other horrific is that the fire left the fire nation left the bodies of the air and their own people to rot in the open air and where they died. The worst thing about it it that the sacrifices of millions of people were in vain. Since Aang already left and Sezion plans and efforts after Aang returned was destroyed.
