Benzaldehyde is the smell. It should smell poisononous, because it's a smell associated with cyanide, but because fruit started making it, we humans like the smell now.
Benzaldehyde is also called 'almond oil'. It smells like artificial cherry flavoring.
Thank you!! Pinning this
@@BraveWilderness I learnt cyanide smells like Almond from nile red
Looks like it accidentally made itself a target.
Hi
Early
Brave wilderness isn’t just about getting stung, it’s sad that people don’t appreciate these videos as much.
Agreed. The unfortunate fact is that most people value entertainment over education.
Because they aren’t what they use to be, especially since Cyote is no longer in them
But many people still appreciate these videos too and that’s all what matters
The people who only watch these for the stings and bites, are the equivalent of people who only pick up a book to look at the pictures.
It's also about getting pooped on by weird critters hahahahha
Bro imagine being some random millipede, chilling, eating leaves, and one day being picked up and touched by some hairless ape
Apes are more intelligent than humans humans are some of the most unintelligent people on earth depending on who it is
so it starts musking to make itself smell like delicious fruits and pastries.
Imagine thinking that all animals know what apes are...
@@CbrF4i600cc no better yet- imagine taking this seriously
sorta silly huh?
@@Volti-Vagra imagine thinking you know what the other person is thinking

That smell is either the jungle or the millipedes ultimate defense, *Cyanide* you see, some millipede species can produce cyanide that smells kind of like cherries or other fruit, the cyanide can or can’t be harmful to you depending on the species we are dealing with.
Cherry pits do contain cyanide if I am not mistaken, so it makes sense.
Benzaldehyde I think in the videos specific case.
I was more wondering maybe if it's trying to defend against carnivorous type "predators" emitting a sweet smell will deter it from eating it??? That was my random assumption, I may be wrong though
@@melwinder1I would assume that it’s not necessarily the “sweetness” of the smell that deters them, but what it represents. As other comments have brought up, it has to do with a chemical tht is found in both cyanide as well as some fruits. Humans eat fruits and so with time we’ve learned to associate it as a good rather than a bad smell. Carnivores most likely will smell it and get warning signals similar to us smelling rotten food, as it will be more associated with cyanide which is incredibly dangerous for them.
I bought almonds that smelled like this , they tasted bitter like cherries. They were bad. Cyanide.
My favorite creature we have found yet! Tell me what you think of it, best comment gets pinned! -Mark
yo are you still in malaysia? I thought you guys would never visit haha
He looks cool, that red is awesome
Hi
monsterverse video is coming?
That was UNIQUE looking beetle. Looks like a Trilobite due to her armor plating. That's awesome seeing that for the first time.
Mom finds a spider : eww kill it
Mark picks it up
I think I recognize this guy from somewhere
I came here looking for this comment
Did anyone else have "Hakuna Matata" playing in their head at the beginning of this video? No? Just me? Okay. 💙
Now that you said it, I actually feel like it fits to the beginning😂❤
@@shieldlupertz7254 Especially the earthworm and the grub! I was thinking "Slimy yet satisfying! I wonder if Mark needs a snack?"🤣💙
@@DravenGal 😂
I actually accidentally came across a trilobite beetle and the armored millipede few years back in Kuantan, Malaysia. Didn't know what it was, as it look so alien-ny, and the millipede indeed smell kinda sweet when im poking it
Mark, that beetle was quite scary looking until it was crawling around on your hand and it could see its tiny head and even tinier eyes. She is a very strange beetle and I could see her as a character on Star Wars…lol. I love your enthusiasm when you find different animals and tell us about them! I am glad it is not just all about being stung. Thank you for an amazing video and take care!!! 😄💙🐬🐍🐊🫶🏼
1:33 i love how he gets pooped on then just smells it 😂
It's always lovely to see the fascination of Mark by finding those fantastic creatures! As always, it is a nice adventure for us all! Thanks so much! But it takes a lot of fantasy to see the same beetle in the fossil shown. To me, the fossil looks very different in its shape.
Hard to express this properly, that beetle looks like a work of art to me.
The segmentation and color make it look really pretty
I'm never shaking Mark's hand if I ever meet him in-person.
Why not
So long as he washed his hands of the bug feces and musk, I would shake them.
@@penguinagents2015bc all the sting and stuff
EARLY! Watching these videos makes me so happy. I've been watchingever since i was a kid. Im suffering from severe depression and have been SA'd, and i love nature, so just seeing these make me super duper happy and make me smile. Learning about these different types of creatures fascinates me.
Hope you're doing okay, wherever you are in the world. I'd highly suggest starting small trips to explore near wherever you live if it's safe! Even if it's a park bench to start!
Wishing you well ❤
Sending prayers
Both the Worm and the insect were using the toilet when you butted in lol...
"They was like hey give us some privacy will ya" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the educational aspect of this video, sting videos got its place, but I'd prefer this type of videos more tbh. Also, what a beautiful creature!
I agree, one of Mark’s other videos showcasing the Bobbit worm was fascinating to watch.
Can we just appreciate how much goes into these videos.
What a fantastic creature. I just don't understand how people can be disgusted by bugs. They are beautiful!
Im only disgusted by bugs that I dont if its venomous or not. Once I know its not, I'll pick it up with my hand
I’m so glad that you’re willing to go after creatures that are possibly unknown or not the most recognizable or the most trendy cuz I found this creature absolutely fascinating and I never would’ve known about it if you didn’t make this video.
You look familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?
If you know, you know 😏

its like my own backyard, it has woods in the back,it has a bunch of bugs and animals. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL KEEP IT UP!!!!
I always get so excited when a brand new Brave Wilderness video drops. Especially the ones that don’t feature stings and bites. Those videos are fun but stress me out.
Really starting to enjoy BW again!
Thanks for the fun and informative vid!!
Millipedes feel like Velcro walking across your skin.. I was in Borneo in March 2023 seen a lot of crazy creatures while there.. stayed in the jungle for 15 days at Sukau Rainforest Lodge on the Kinabatangan river.. I was on an expedition with Chester Zoo totally amazing experience, absolutely love Borneo..
Find the Wild Man of Borneo while you are there. Oofty Goofty!!!
Very much enjoyed! I would love to follow all of nature for days just to watch them mate😆, seriously awesome!
Im scared for my life watching this, even with duct i'm behind my computer
I don't know how he does it, but Mark continuously surprises me with how many crazy, weird, wild, and wonderful creatures exist out there. What a scary but beautiful creature that beetle is! And I truly appreciate how often he goes off the path to observe and spotlight other amazing creatures as well.
I value these kind of educational videos far more than the stinging ones!
Do I recognize you from somewhere?
Wow that’s a crazy looking beetle good find guys, fun video!
Imagine being a beetle in the jungle sleeping on a log and a giant hand just grabs.
Wow you look familiar. Do you I know you from somewhere? Maybe noodles and company?
this is too funny 😭
More of those Videos and not "stung by" please
No wayyyy I was hopping you'd find this one, I found out about them recently and theyre some of my favorite looking insects
And there's also different looking kinds so still more to look forward too!
Also pretty elusive, heh I remember when a lot of the titles had elusive
Im so jealous of people who aren’t afraid to hold bugs. I wanna get over that fear so badly bc i love bugs
You look familiar, do I know you from somewhere?
It's a zesty pancake. I love it!
This beetle is absolutely crazy! I never knew they existed! Thank you Brave Wilderness for continuing to be Great and educational! By far my favorite nature channel of all time. My 3 year old loved this also!
That was a very cool creature! I like adventure videos like this one. Keep up the good work!
I love learning about animals and their ecosystems much more than bite/sting content.
Do I know you from somewhere?
Watching these videos makes me so happy. Learning about these different types of creatures fascinates me.
a super fast hand capturing at the speed of light to make sure nothing escapes. Trilobite beetle: i move like a snail… 😐
Awesome video on an amazing bug I never knew existed! I could imagine that being like 10 it's size back in the dinosaur age.
They keep the insect in their backpack 🎒 and then take it out for the camera.
It's just all acting. Coyote is a great actor. He really does capture kids' and adults' attention to keep us watching
I find it so odd that I can't handle the sight of centipedes, but millipedes don't bother me at all. Actually, that armored one Mark caught is actually pretty cool! (Also, I'd never handle a millipede since the ones where I live tend to stink pretty bad ^_^0 )
I believe the smell is to ward off predators. The smell is a musk that also is supposed to taste fowl. I've seen both cats and birds spit one out if they're foolish enough to catch one!
Also, I've never seen a trilobite beetle before! It really does look like a fossil! Awesome!👍
since yall are looking for cool animals now instead of dangerous ones heres a list i made
duckbilled tree frog, hairy frog, anableps, mata mata, tuatara, draco lizard, phrynocephalus mystaceus, Calmanesia sp, thai spiky isopod, pangolin, and the hoatzin
chances are you’ve probably showcased a lot of these but probably not all. just a few ideas, thank you for the video
Obviously, the beetle is probably as closely related to the long extinct real trilobite as we humans are, but it's still a beautifully marked insect.
As a fossil hunter, a decently fossilized trilobite is on my short list of must have finds.
It is Beautiful, thank you🙏🏽
Y'all should do a wilderness bingo game. First to find a 5 things in a certain wilderness, would be cool
Lol Mark you grabbed it like it was gonna fly off lol. Yeah those are really cool looking.
Wow what an incredible beetle!!! Thanks for showing us this amazing critter!!
Oh man, oh man that's one of my TOP beetles! Congrats on the find BW!
New discoveries made every day.
best channel ever! thank you from Québec Canada!
great video
Where do I know this guy from?
In a next discovery video, tell us more about the creature’s life, what it eats, what it’s pray and predators are.. etc great vid anyway!
Talk about a good morning. I get to learn about some new things, I’d call that a win
I love your enthusiasm 😊 also, she’s a very beautiful beetle. And I’m not a big bug person. But I like that armored lady.
Very cool and fascinating 💪🏾
So do I recognize you from somewhere?
I love “ flipping rocks” videos🎉
Keeps me interested 😊
The unique colors of that trilobite is really amazing. I really liked that and the male and female look like different creatures. Really weird 🐞
1:09 Both the earth worm and the grub crapped when he picked them up💀
5:08 the smell is toxic cyanide that armourd ones make
That is now in my top ten favorite insects. Incredible little creature
That trilobite beetle is the prettiest and coolest looking bug I’ve seen in a really long time holy crap
Well bro I was gonna go eat after this video but not after Marks worm and grub, thanks Mark.
The passion in this guy
Those beatles are awesome looking!
It's awesome that there are still some creatures that reminds us of the times of the dinosaurs. When u got that millipede it reminded me that certain lemurs catch millipedes and it looks like they get intoxicated from the millipede. Could you ever maybe do a video on that?
I love how dangerous everything looks at that beetle, the claws, the tail, the coloration, but than its funny tiny head without any kind of weapon 😅
I really missed this kind of videos on this channel. Now it is mostly about pain and bite.
Wooow Really Awesome looking beetle!!!! Same feelings, feel like a kid again seeing this beetle. Can just tell that's prehistoric!! Haha. Think this just became my 3rd favorite beetle now haha. Hercules Beetles are my favorite and bombardier beetles my 2nd...Truly Amazing find thank you for sharing this with us!!!!
The trilobite beetle looks cool it’s crazy that someone followed it just to figure out how they mate and what the male looked like
This is such a cool creature I had no idea they existed!
Do i recognise you from somewhere?
the armoured millipede when rolled up, looks kinda like it was the inspiration for a bakkugan that i can’t remember the name of.
As an insect fan, that was a top video and a top find
Bug poop in the first minute and a half 😂😂😂
It's beautiful. I collect fossils and have several trilobites. I can see why it gets it's name.
Man that's a real-life pokemon
What a beauty!
it looks so cool!!!
Oh my goodness gracious!!!11!1
Every insect in this video is cool as hell.
Even if beetles didn't exist in the Carboniferous, it really looks like something that would come out of that era.
what a spectacular bug you guys found
I just noticed you've got a Christopher Ward on! I have their C1 Moonglow and I love it.
Imagine going around during the prehistoric era and seeing a bug the size of a bus. Yes, bugs and other animals used to be massive during the prehistoric era, but died out due to their big bodies not getting enough food, or something similar.
The millipedes reminded me of some of the giant millipedes I saw in Kenya. The longest I saw stretched across an entire tire print - easily a foot long. So many of the crawlies get so much bigger in certain environments, they also had giant wasps, but other than the scorpions the giant bugs were shockingly gentle. There was one time I got a giant wasp tangled in my hair, and I was able to untangle it and let it go, without getting stung. I can't imagine doing that with the wasps back here in the US.
5:30 the millipede can smell either like cherries or almonds depending on the person, due to it secreting a type of cyanide.
Yeah i thought it looked like a specie that can squirt out cyanide
That was awesome! xD
Up in Northeast NY Adirondack Mountains and St.Lawrence valley has a millipede species very similar to that one. I have seen them as big as 6 inches.
What beautiful animals you have seen historic it’s amazing
Awesome 🤩🪱🐛🪲
If it was a somewhat common insect around the world, I would not mind having one as a pet. Provided I am confident that I can offer him a confortable, decent existence of course
Looks like something you'd find crawling around in a Metroid game !
Jesus, man! That initial lunge almost went bad. When your thumb hit it, my stomach lurched. It looked like you might slipped. I'm glad things went okay.
