The uk also didn't trust entirely Italian and German British we interned people and vetted them, so it wasnt just the USA doing this sort of thing people were paranoid about spies . if they came through a vetting process then they could be involved in the war. we also interned or jailed people who had been far right . I think its hard on the majority of people who were loyal but I can understand why it happened
