Using my memory bank I could almost imagine my being the driver on your ride. After watching three videos about the new Gold Wing I want to get my butt down to the Honda dealership. In the past 25 years I've owned two Harleys, '81 Sportster and a 2012 Fatboy, and two Hondas, 2009 750 Magna and 2008 Superhawk. After much deliberation I've decided at age 71 a new Gold Wing is in my near future for touring and camping. I've looked at the BMW 1200GS and the new KTM 1290 Adventure S but the Gold Wing has that sex appeal that I look for in a bike. My past bikes succumbled to many mods due to seeking that appeal. It was worth it as I received top dollar on the sales. This 2018 Honda Gold Wing looks as though all I need to do is garage it and cover it...no aftermarket mods. Thanks for the ride, man!

I have only owned one Goldwing in my life. It was a 1988 1500, first year for the 6-cylinder engine. I bought it used with 7,000 miles on it in 1993. I owned it until 1996 and traded it in on a new bike. That Goldwing was really nice on long 12-hour interstate rides, but a bit too much for around town. I traded for a smaller bike, but the Goldwing was a fun bike.

I love my boxers, but I find it neat to see that BMW a few years back went to the waterheads becoming more like the GL or gold wing bikes from Honda (water cooled, integral gear box and wet clutch) And now on this new creature Honda is doing something “like” the tele-lever front end, and the powered windscreen like my R1100RT had 20 years ago.

Ain't no other Honda like a Goldwing. It's the only metric bike I like. I have a 1982 I'm restoring. Only descent motorcycle (Goldwings, in my opinion) Procaliber has in ever had in their inventory or will ever have (besides Harley's).
Been there, done that! Saw my first one in person 5 weeks ago at a dealership in Raleigh! Awesome!

I rode from Victoria BC and over on the Coho to Port Angeles down to Olympia on March 8. Although the forecast was for rain all day I got lucky. Rode down the coast and was thinking of you as the scenery was like your neck of the woods. Beautiful country with friendly people. Got caught in the down pour an hour out of Olympia. Looked like the rain you encountered on your drive in. Thank heavens my BMW has rain mode.
Beautiful ride on the way home in sunshine up the Sound north to home.

I have loved the Goldwings way back to the mid 70's when I first seen one. I am surprised I have never owned on.
I've never really been a Honda fan at all... I've ridden my father's goldwings and they just always seemed like dead weight at all speeds and couldn't maneuver itself out of the way with ease even if you had a lot of room.. yup I've owned Honda's before and very likely won't again, but I gotta say that goldwing is nice... they finally got with the times. I love the sound, it's ease to maneuver, the driver interface, GPS, etc etc... It looks Iike Honda finally hit one out of the park with the Goldwing. Thanks for posting so many great videos. no matter the brand, I always enjoy watching motorcycle videos.
LOL dead weight. You know what that is; inexperience and unrealistic expectation. You probably ride a crotch rocket that weighs 1/8 the Gold Wing does. You do not use a sledge hammer to drive a screw. They are purpose built as is the crotch rocket. With experience they are very nimble.

By for one of the best videos covering this bike. You show a lot of the bike instead of the standard stuff. Very quiet bike also when your on the road. Very little road or wind noise in your mic.
Shawn I have not seen you ride a bike I did not like. You don't own a bike I don't like. BUT there is only one that gives me THOSE dreams. And that is the Can Am Spyder RT Limited blacked edition. JUST SAYING!!!!! Get well Kelly. Wrong time of the year to be sick.

I see now why Honda dropped the ST1300 instead of improving it like Yamaha did the FJR. They turned the Goldwing into an ST1800. It’s a good thing.

It’s too bad they shrank the bags since it’s a Touring bike. Biggest complaint I’ve heard. Which transmission does this have.
This thing kinda looks like my ctx1300 but in detail just makes my 2014 look archaic..

I think those mirrors will be electric at some point. Like Apple, I think Honda doesn’t put everything in their bag of tricks on each bike, saving things for next year’s future model. This GoldWing Tour is one awesome machine. I wish they would put highway pegs, heated seats and ride off center stand on their Bagger models, the GoldWing. Maybe next year. Good job here and best to Kelly.

Very cool. Is it as smooth as the K1600B IYHO?
I would say noticeably smoother. The suspension way better! The K1600's are a bit harsh and awkward IMO... The new GL1800 feels small, light and nimble in comparison. It's wild what Honda has done here, you really need to take one for a ride..!

"The BMW setup" is actually the 'Hossack' setup.
Goldwings are not for me personally being a Harley guy. But that don't mean I don't appreciate them. Thats one heck of a bike! (I used heck since it seems you are using as much cussing as you used to in your earlier videos?)

What do you think about the new Goldwing vs R1200RT ?
That's kind of a Sport Touring vs Full Touring comparison to me... For the long haul two-up touring, I'd 100% go for the Goldwing (big & cozy), for any other touring I'd most likely go for the RT. I love the new Goldwing, but I think it's size and weight would get old for me over time. It's more of an event to ride it, where the RT is so nimble, light feeling and fun to ride, you would jump on it for any 'ol reason to ride...

Hi Shawn: I’ve been sport riding and touring on a 2012 VFR1200F for 4 years and now want something a little more comfortable for the longer sections. Your insight about the GW vs the RT is very helpful as I tour mostly solo and am 70, 5’6 and 135lbs. I’m going to take a demo ride on a DCT this week but will look again at the Beemer. Any other suggestions?

There is an issue with the front suspension. The shock bumper plastic rips a round piece after as little as one ride. Honda probably will have to recall it. The bike seems to sit near shock bumper with a single rider. I Enjoy your channel very quality stuff thanks.
A one bike sample size, with videos posted by someone in the business of selling suspension components, does not a recall make.
Bob Cook you mean don't trust a mechanic and trust all the Motorcycle magazine reviewers that Honda paid expenses for a nice Austin hill country ride. I'm sure no complaints got filed. Honda has cut corners recently, resulting in Guy Martin and John McGuiness both quit Honda for defects that almost killed them at TT past year on rushed Fireblade upgrade sketchy transmission. Honda ceo also recently had to apologise for cheaping the Civic and they where forced to rebuild it.
That shock bumper is not just a bumper. It is part of the suspension system. It is supposed to sit on the bumper, from what I have heard.
I love my 7 speed DCT. I can relate I have sinus pain all the time . Hot showers hot tea hot bean bag on my head helped me . I just puked in the shower from sinus drainage . The pain does change u . It wears u down
Great motorcycle! I do not understand several "Japanese solutions" in it. This is a tourist with a 6-cylinder engine in 1850 cm2 .1. Why did he cut speed to 180 km / h? I think in order to make the design uzgim and elegant, and more speed assumes a large radiator. 2 Why did he reduce the amount of luggage bag, if it is positioned as a motorcycle for traveling together? Probably it is impossible to make a motorcycle narrow in front and wide in the back ...... 3. Why did you reduce the fuel tank to 21 liters? Only one thing - the pursuit of "we greatly eased our new motorcycle." I think the first obgreyd will fix it all. But these 3 questions will not make me the owner of this bike.

I rode the DCT and I like the feel of the bike although the DCT is not for me, I'm waiting for somebody to test that radio out at 85 miles per hour Under full face helmet and tell me if you can hear it or not! When I did my test drive I did no adjustments to the radio, but I had it on 30, and could not even come close to hearing it as well as I hear the radio on my F6B on the 20 notch. If anybody can prove me wrong I would love to hear it! But right now I'm saying Honda failed on the radio 4 volume.
