She definitely needs a break. Self care is very important! That said, the life of an entrepreneur is not easy... no matter your age! Problem with people in their 20's today is that most don't have more than a high-school diploma, if that. Higher education is no longer necessary in the eye's of young adults today. They also don't have any business skills; and hope that youtube or instagram will take off for them. They watch a few tutorials and say to themselves, "I can do that, who needs college". Not knowing all the work it's going to entail to actually produce a product, promote it, and eventually sell it. Everyday they hope that this video, or that photo will be the one that makes them successful. When reality hits of all the business aspects that goes on with posting content , whether its videos, photos, or selling a product... they crash and burn, with years of hoping and waiting to see the fruits of their labor. There's recording, editing, finding sponsors and promoting them. Not to mention promoting yourself, on-top of creating and selling a product; and if you're selling a product, you now have to learn about purchasing wholesale, finding those vendors, taking inventory, being your own bookkeeper and accountant. If you're lucky you get an hour to just sit back and relax, your lucky! That's alot for anyone! My advice is for people to have a plan, and seek higher education for whatever your passion is. It doesn't have to be college. Take some business courses online. In anything that you'd like to become that entails money, learn everything you need to know about it; and get a friend you trust to help you on your journey.. no one makes it to the top alone!

Not going to lie, I was almost going to cry when I saw your shop closed, since all I use now is your rose face wash and glycolic toner, and I'm almost out. I totally understand that when you run your own business it takes over your life, but it is also your business, and the income is unlimited. The first couple of years are the hardest, because you have to put the most in. It's definitely important not to let yourself get burnt out.
Maybe your business has grown to the point that you need some help. Like hiring someone to do the tasks that you don't want to deal with in your etsy shop (filling bottles, packing up orders and mailing them out, accounting, those sort of things), then you can focus on creating the products and the things that really bring you joy to do. Even having someone edit videos for you, because I know how much time editing takes up.
The most successful people start off doing everything themselves, but eventually hire help, because our time is worth money. Paying people to do the tasks that don't need to be done by you, can free up more time for you to focus on those things you really want to be doing.
Glad you are taking time for yourself, I have my etsy email notification on so that I know when you reopen 😊👍.

We just completely exhaust ourselves. Finding that balance is hard but you have done the right thing by taking a step back and allowing yourself some breathing room to realign and re-energize. We could all learn a thing or two from you Tara. Thank you for being so vulnerable with us and sharing the REAL struggles of what lifes like behind the scenes . Yes!!! I just went through this exact thing: realizing I was doing too much, going through a move, and took a giant break. We definitely need to be kinder to ourselves. I’ve restricted wholesale customers to a minimum because I felt exactly as you did. Thank you for sharing Tara and showing the reality of success. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows: it’s a TON of work. Good luck with your move! My mentals improved immensely once I separated my workspace from my living space ❤️

  • @suffak8

I hope you get the break you need. Owning a business is really hard work and when you’re the only person doing it, it consumes you. Been there. Take your time and heal, and I hope you feel better soon and get your head & heart where you want & need it ❤️ I’ve battled depression and anxiety my whole life, and own a business, and have a family to take care of, so from someone a few (11) years older than you, my unsolicited advice is to enjoy your youth. I spent the entirety of my 20s grinding and burned out so badly I crashed and burned hard, and it still affects me. Take time to enjoy your life and youth, your boyfriend and the joy of owning a home, and reconnect with your friends! Friend/girl time always boost your serotonin levels, and it sounds like you could really use some of that. People will get over you taking a reprieve. There’s no Taralee Skincare without Tara, so take good care of yourself and do things that bring you joy ❤️ sending love and healing vibes ✌️

Thank you for sharing, which is difficult, and also, for your excellent videos, which I just discovered this week! Being your own boss is many peoples' dream, but becomes a nightmare without enough help. Living on social media is also very difficult, with trolls lying in wait everywhere. I just want to say this. I have been watching you off and on for quite some time now and I admire everything that you have accomplished...especially going back to the day that you made up your mind to do your own thing. We have many trials and tribulations in life...take it from a 74 year old who just started an ecommerce store on FB...I've been making personal skincare products like yourself. But, only since Dec. 2018, and I am nowhere near to what you have accomplished. I feel I still have a lot to learn. You give a lot of good information and it has certainly helped me. I am not a Formulator. I went to my favorite Mall one day and found out the store where I purchase my favorite body butter and soap was closing their doors on Dec. 24, 2018. I was mad and sad all at the same time. I left the store with no purchase and decided, I'm making my own stuff. So, here I am and I listen to you, young lady. You've got miles to go before you get to my age and I'm the one who admires you. You have a right to slow it down and it's a good thing that you did....you'll get it done. Be blessed.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😍

Wholesaling is hard, and the hustle is real. It is easy to overwork yourself. I do what I have to do so I can do what I want to do, and sometimes it is really hard. It would be nice win the lottery and not have money worries, LOL. May you find the best way to find your joy again in creating. Relax and figure it all out. This is normal you are burned out. You have to start your day off first with giving to yourself before you do anything. Your morning routine should be you first. I start my routine with meditation, reading, listening to something positive, exercise, affirmations, being grateful. You will see a big change in your mental health. I had to learn how to do this because I went to the same thing twice in my life. I have noticed a big change & if I miss a day I notice a difference immediately "stress". I do my best not to miss self care because I love the way I feel "peace & harmony ".🤗

You’re absolutely amazing and courageous for opening up about all this. Please continue to take care of yourself and get that much needed break. And take this as an opportunity to set yourself new boundaries with your business. Maybe become very strict on days and times when you’re allowed to work and when you must be unplugged from it. Make it clear to your customers that orders will only be fulfilled Monday-Friday between 9-5 - or whatever works for you. … just saying basically set strict boundaries so your personal life can still flourish and you don’t get depressed. Love you so much Tara!! 🥰🥰

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely be spending my time during this break coming up with a better system for when I open back up. I really don’t want to over work myself anymore.

I saw your diy Retinol cream and I want to say you are amazingly resourceful! You will be highly successful one day. You're so young, yet so driven and focused. I would say You Deserve a Break! It doesn't have to be all cylinders or stopped. I think handmaking things is a Lot of work, and super hard to make a profit. You're probably gonna do much better with your TH-cam. It will only grow. Good luck! (I wish my daughter was as determined as you :)

I totally get this. I recently retired from the Sweet Treat World. Same way I felt. I did it for 13yrs and isolated from from friends and family. I've had no social life for qt least 10yrs bc I was working so much. It got to the point where I didn't enjoy it any longer. The thought of decorating cookies made me cringe. It was very difficult for me to create and it didn'tuse to be like that. So, now I'm getting into skincare which gives me a little downtime compared to cookie designing. I'm going to take this downtime to get my thoughts together and not rush into things. Take your time. Relax. Take a breather. We will be here.

I had liked the video and forgot to leave my comment lol. Wishing you all the best in your health Tara. I don't think a lot of sbo (small business owners) talk enough on this topic: how hard it is to run their own business and (I totally understand the meaning of not wanting to overshare on social media as well) but some not all make it seems glorious at times, but we must be honest, at some point I know this small business will take atoll on me if I am not careful with my health and happiness. Whenever I feel overwhelmed I remember my "WHY" then slow down and start over again. I owe social media nothing I always say, I can start over as many times I like, disappear and rebuild again. I salute you queen for staying strong but still going. Am just starting up...but I appreciate videos like these where I can sit at my 9-5 and learn from those who are ahead of me. All am saying is thank you ^_^. Love from the Caribbean.

Thank you for being so honest. I have a clothing store and I stopped it because I started to despise it. I was taking care of my grandmother and couldn't handle the stress. I felt so defeated and felt like a failure for pausing it.

Cheers to you for acknowledging you need a break. I have learned and grown along with you and for that I say Thank You!
