- Late spring in England is a perfect season for a casual drive. I had the chance to drive across the very historic city of Providence, and ended my trip around the prestigious Brown University. Please enjoy!

Providence is the capital and most populous city of the state of Rhode Island and is one of the oldest cities in the United States It was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams, a Reformed Baptist theologian and religious exile from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He named the area in honor of "God's merciful Providence" which he believed was responsible for revealing such a haven for him and his followers. The city is situated at the mouth of the Providence River at the head of Narragansett Bay.
Providence was one of the first cities in the country to industrialize and became noted for its textile manufacturing and subsequent machine tool, jewelry, and silverware industries. Today, the city of Providence is home to eight hospitals and seven institutions of higher learning which have shifted the city's economy into service industries, though it still retains some manufacturing activity.
With an estimated population of 179,883, Providence is the third-most-populous city in New England after Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts.

Thank you for this video. I used to live in RI. Good memories.
Great video! Nice selection of a route. Ended with a climb up to the East Side, aka College Hill. Lots of great memories there.

Me sorprendió la belleza de esta cuidad.
Excellent tour. I will be visiting in September 2024 from Bmore and this video was perfect! I wanted see the hotel I reserved and the parking. Perfect. Thanks again for your video!
Beautiful, cozy town. I had lived there for two years, 2011~2012, and many people called me CHINO since I look Asian...definitely not a good memory.
That's sad af
🤣
Racism is rampant.
Yeah sadly all of that area up on the east coast is racist (well most of them)
Great job guys! Joined AF in 1986 did 20 years and only been home for funeral in 2011. Cant wait to come home and see this amazing show of community!! (Grew up near Narragansett Brewery)

Very beautiful town
Rhode Island # 1
Very beautiful town. I wish my hometown Mombasa was like that. You won't get tired of touring the town with well manicured lawns, spacious and clean roads etc.
You think this is beautiful? Lmao you haven’t seen anything. Trust me. I was born and raised here.
@@Kal-El207 hes from Mombasa
@@Kal-El207 dude, you’re really privileged compared to an average person in Kenya
@@Kal-El207 why ? Its looks so beautiful and calm and clean
@@user-sm5wj4xt3tthis video is only showing downtown. The majority of the city lives in poverty lol
Hermoso lugar
I went to Johnson and Wales University in 1999 and I loved Providence so much (I'm from central MA so I've travelled there before but not too much)

Miss my hometown!
Aaaaahhh, Providence !!! A place full of bittersweet memories of my first love and college, my first apartment and roommates, my first $400 car, trying to keep it alive and learning where I could legally park it. I don't miss Providence all that much but do get a bit nostalgic whenever I am back in that part of the country.
where did you move to?
@@johndang887 ... os many places, NY, CA, Israel, Spain.
@@anthonydavid5121 very nice. I left pa to Los angeles. no more shoveling snow for me lol
Such great history and architecture and sad thing is most will never go into the many great buildings and homes of the capital city.
Always good to start off with Federal Hill. To bad Junior's not there anymore.
"You know the worst thing rn is someone opening the door" xD
me and my family go to providence to visit the mall there.
I use to live just across the Border from Providence in Massachusetts, only a few minutes from downtown Providence. I can tell you Providence didn't always look as nice as it does in this video. I haven't been there in years, but the video shows there has been, a tremendous amount of urban renewal and construction. I don't know how it is now, but it was an extremely politically corrupt city for a number of years. I was very impressed by Providence in this video, the city has done an excellent job in its renewal. One thing that doesn't change though, and always got on my nerves in New England. The horrible conditions of the roads. Always patched over and in disrepair. In some areas you would find numerous pot holes, that would destroy your vehicle. I could not stand driving in the area, and would use transit whenever I could. Otherwise Providence and New England is a wonderful place to call home.
you definitely right about the pot holes. But that was most north east states for me. NY, NJ and PA had them as well. MA was the worst though. My vehicle went through alot of suspension, tire, rim work due to pot holes
I was there from 1983 to 1988. It was pretty gross
The border of RI and ma is not prov that's Pawtucket I know that because prov is my hometown
Sure do miss my city
Same. This video gave me intense nostalgia/ homesickness
Very nice houses. Is it considered a rich people neighborhood?
LA ciudad de los Tavares❤❤❤❤❤

Why look so quiet?
Hi hun
This state seems kinda weird for me like some state of mind but looks not bad tho, maybe this is cause other people make fun about Rhode Island and other stuff
Rhode Island is one of the most organized and beautiful states :)
It really is too small to be s state. Should unified with Connecticut.
The worst parts of Providence are still VERY safe. Very low crime rate.
Stop fucn lyin! I’m from Silver Lake and the majority of the city is in poverty
Why do they all just drive around downtown show da damn city or don’t call it a CITY tour fr
Lol this is funny bc I’m the opposite, I get mad when I watch pov with “downtown” in the title and then 80% of the video is everywhere AROUND downtown but not actually downtown 😂😂
Family guy
The fact that people from other countries find the city beautiful but is one of the worst in our country is funny
Is it really? Why exactly? High crime? Too expensive?
@@mindracer5220 there is quite a few bad areas and the poverty rates are around 20% also meaning the crime is high. However, there are some good areas in the city and it is a lot better than many other places in the coy
@@Alexander2000__ Haha you’re delusional. The worst in the country? Check the stats. Not one city in RI comes up as the top 20 worst cities to live in.
@@denisemckenzie8286 just cos ur from Rhode Island don’t mean it ain’t one of the worst. Also the infrastructure in providence is one of the worst with the the amount of teen pregnancy being one of the highest along with crime rates being exemptionaly high given that it is only a small city, not to mention such high poverty rates and I can go on. Learn your facts before you come defending yourself😂🗽😭
@@Alexander2000__ I’m actually from Nyc but have lived in Rhode Island for 3 years now. Again, your opinion doesn’t matter because the stats show otherwise. Providence isn’t even close to being the worst city in this country. Goodnight!
Boring
Your opinion

If you are bored then lets have fun together
This is one of the most criminal cities. I live about 45 minutes away and dread going to Providence for anything.
It is beautiful downtown but you never see people walking there it's something wrong with Providence
