    Portland is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Maine and the seat of Cumberland County. Portland's population was 66,215 as of 2019. The Greater Portland metropolitan area is home to over half a million people, the 105th-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Portland's economy relies mostly on the service sector and tourism. The Old Port district is known for its 19th-century architecture and nightlife. Marine industry still plays an important role in the city's economy, with an active waterfront that supports fishing and commercial shipping. The Port of Portland is the second-largest tonnage seaport in New England.
    The city seal depicts a phoenix rising from ashes, a reference to recovery from four devastating fires. Portland was named after the English Isle of Portland, Dorset. In turn, the city of Portland, Oregon was named after Portland, Maine. The word Portland is derived from the Old English word Portlanda, which means "land surrounding a harbor".

    I am originally from Korea, but I lived in Portland for little over a year because of work. I came back in August 2020 but never have been able to go back to visit due to COVID. I miss the time in Portland so much, and. it makes me really happy to see the town again! Thanks for the video :)

      Thanks! It was raining a bit earlier in the day, and has being cloudy since. Also the video was taken quite late in the day so it kind of looks dark.

    3 mins in and Not one piece of paper on the ground or other form of trash .. I am extremely impressed. Sadly so many of America's cities today are filthy, with trash strewn all along the sides of the roads and sidewalks -- like people do not care what their neighborhoods look like. But not all -- some cities, you see the apt. dwellers out with their brooms in the morning.

      Comparing it to the 80's when I went back in 2014 it was dumpy junk in many yards around many buildings. I was not impressed. Many Somalians moved there. I spoke with one whose family and relatives of nine were following him out. They did not live as we did. Junky yards didn't bother them. Many Somalians moved there. I wouldn't move back. Trashy. Has that changed today?

    Portland Miane is by far one of the worst places I’ve ever live! Older city,old houses, very cold, no good paying jobs, would not live there for free. 😀

      It definitely can be cold, and expensive to live in (or around) Portland. Decent wages and good jobs are not great anywhere in Maine. A lot of old houses have character and charm, but they’re not very warm.
      It’s not for everyone.

    The two cop vehicles in hot pursuit just minutes in kinda says something. That coming from a NYC guy where the siren sounds are more common than the birds singing.

    Correct me if I wm not right, but I think you have been driving a Tesla or other another eV. So quiet.
    Metro shall in the spring of 2022 be getting two e-buses to test out that is going into regular service. It is a start, I had thought all along that Portland (ME) had some tram lines, I suppose that I have been confusing with the other Portland on the West Coast (they do, plus a funiculat). I only hope that Portland decides to go eventually all electric, be it with E-buses, trolleybuses, trams or indeed a metro (maybe even a monorail system) and become an all electric transport city! Now especially in light of this Climate Disaster we all are now experiencing.

    Even I see that African cities are far much developed than Main cities in Most USA states....eg You can’t compare even Kigali in Rwanda with this Portland city...

    • @kfen8794
      @kfen8794 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well Kigali is a major city with over 1 million people so it wouldn't make sense to compare it to a small city like Portland Maine.

    • @mannidennis1031
      @mannidennis1031 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol this African dude is funny. Forget the best, America’s worse, less developed cities are a hundred years ahead off even the most developed African country, not even speaking about Rwanda. Because you’ll have a few clean spots in your city, now you think it’s more developed than any American city? Yeah you’re delusional son

    • @shannon4386
      @shannon4386 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
