@cheetawolf The fan of a large commercial aircraft engine is designed to move air, but it is so well balanced and on some very good bearings, so it can be moved by the wind. It will rotate backwards if the wind is moving back to front, and forwards if front to back. There is a large surface area, so very little wind will cause this to happen. As shown in Turbofan 1, you can move the fan of a large turbofan with one finger.
@AgentJayZ Yeah sorry, meant J79 and I meant all the stages of blades together. I'm new to the whole jet/turbofan stuff but I've been subbed for awhile and love the informative part about your videos. Thats a lot of money in scrap you guys just have laying outside, I hope you guys have a big fence or some sort of security!
@blown4six You mean one blade? or one complete stage, or a complete compressor or turbine, or a complete engine? ... and I never heard of a j71 If you meant a J79: All 17 stages of compressor blades ( I never counted 'em all, but there's about a thousand ), and all three stages of turbine ( roughly 300 ) , all used in servicable condition... I'll make you a super deal: half the price of a nice house. Scrapped they are worth 20.00 per pound, and you're looking at about 200 lbs.
@santhosh11dec Its not rotating at all. It's sitting on a pallet. The "wrong way" rotation comment about Rolls Royce engines is a joke about the way The RR and GE compannies have a long-standing debate over who contributed more to the development of the jet engine, and that each companies engines turn the opposite way to those made by the other.
this is such a wonderful airfoil shape!!

Some seriously nice engineering!

Good to see another vid! Sounds like some expensive blades! Are all the compressor blades Ti ?

i think that u have mentioned the rotation direction wrong?? am i right or is it the nature of that engine??
@FrontSideBus I'll change it...
what would just the blades run (used) from a j71 motor?
Since it's a Rolls-Royce, shouldn't that be an aerofoil? :)
