I have hit a overhead line attached to a house. I don't know how I survived. My carbon pole hit the line and that cut a section in half and the internal hose instantly set fire. The electric line cut in half and swung by me and set a wheelie bin on fire. I can only presume it was the rubber gloves I was wearing.
It happened in the blink of an eye, only now with this video you've posted I have realised what potential outcome may of been. Thank you to everyone involved for this video and the awareness it will spread. I will be adding my clean to the cause. I cannot explain how quickly it can go wrong. I heard a bang and My brush and half a section was on the floor on fire and I look up my poles on fire. Never take anything for granted to be safe.
I worked for British Rail as a track man before it was privatised, The over head cables have a jump of at least 10 meters or more. Risk assesments were carried out to avoid any risk to life. Its sad that this has happened and I wish you all the best for the future and stay strong in your recovery.
I've just retired from water fed pole window cleaning after 20 years due to Dupuytren's contracture in both hands. This type of work takes its toll on your body. It's a young man's game.
My heart goes out to Jason, I wish we could get this video in front of all the pole manufacturers, to make sure that at least 2 parts of their poles are insulated. 3 sections would be better.
Thanks Dave. I cant tell you how much this means to Jason and his family. When visitors are allowed back in after his big operation, which went very well. i will be showing Jason all these amazing and supportive comments over his favorite Dominoes Pizza. As Jason's friend and colleague, i say thank you all.
What a story, how his dad held it together to talk about it and in depth. I still can’t believe we still have overhead power lines they should all be buried or pass a law where houses can’t be built near pylons etc. New legislation on the manufacturing of WFP that all sections are insulated if that is possible.
Dave, this video and its production quality have created one of the most powerful, emotional & informative videos I've ever seen. I hope the family is being supported, and I send them my wishes and strength to get through this ordeal This needs to be a television documentary and get this message across far and wide to everyone who works outside regardless of the trade #strengthforjason
This is very sad and horrifying and incredibly REAL. Thank you Dave for going out of your way to make this video and for your generosity. I hope Jason has as much of a speedy recovery as possible and is able to get back to his family asap.
Jason has been our window cleaner for the 2+ years. He has always been cheerful, friendly and happy to chat. It is awful what has happened to him and I hope this video helps prevent the same thing happening to any other window cleaners.
Thank you for sharing this story this is really close to me as I have 3 kids and have been cleaning windows for 22 years using waterfed poles daily I am aware of the dangers but believe me safety is number 1 and I will most certainly walk off any job to avoid anything that is deemed certain injury or worst. My heart goes out to Jason and his family my thoughts and prayers are with all of them and I wish him the very best in his upcoming surgery. This accident will definitely open the eyes of window cleaners around the world and most certainly help prevent this terrible accident from happening again. God Bless!
That's so scary. I don't work near any powerlines. But I didn't know this could happen. I didn't know the first section of my pole was insulated. I sometimes remove sections to make my pole lighter.
Wow is all I can say. Such an emotional interview to watch and you can see the pain his Dad is going through just speaking about it, I can not imagine what his wife and kids are going through. Complete respect for the strength his dad is showing all the way through this interview.
Dave thanks for sharing this video - my thoughts go out to Jason and his family at this time. As a window cleaner it has really made me think about looking up before I start a job and the poss. dangers. Jason keep going - all window cleaners are right with you in your recovery. Regards Graham (Hemel Hempstead)
Hi, Dave your generosity It takes to another level of surprises from Down Under I made a Donation To Jason and Family no matter the distance is from I'm a Window Cleaner too following your Channel always are helpful I hope his getting better and get a good recovering and peace of mind to his family never giving up to give up.....!!!!!
God bless this poor lad, his family and you for helping to shine light upon this. I can't imagine. I know about ladder injuries and death but never in my life would think or assume this as a potential danger. Thank you, sir and bless you. I wish I could financially help but am struggling myself. At least I have my body intact and my struggles simple. Love to you all!
As a father myself, that was really hard to watch. John, I can't begin to imagine how you feel. Wishing the best possible for Jason, he is incredibly lucky to be alive.
That was a hard watch. Thanks for sharing Dave, definetaly made me to be more aware of my surroundings whilst at work all the best to Jason and his family sad day for the community
Wow, how scary, poor guy !!! That's such bad news. I hope he recovers well. Funny thing is I literally purchased a SHOCKSTOPPER handle for my Reach-it pole last night, which is made of kevlar and is designed to prevent this type of thing happening. Costs me €300 but I'm so glad I did now. Best wishes to Jason and his family. 🤗
Thanks Dave for sharing this very sad situation that Jason has encountered. I have been in this industry since 2006 and this is the second incident I have heard of electrocution from a pole. First one was in South Africa, the guy did live but sadly lost a hand and a foot and never worked again. He was using the Gardiner Super lite at the time and touched the cables from the pylon s. He was working in a office block complex at the time. Please let us know where we can send donations. Wishing Jason the very best for the future.
Really sorry to hear this has happened. I'm wishing Jason the best recovery he can. Hope the family are doing ok. Such an emotional video but goes to show how we all do not realise just how dangerous our job can be. I will most definitely be looking into each job more thoroughly. Is there a go fund me page where we can all donate a bit of money to help the family out ? Best wishes, Craig purnell South wales ( Barry island )
Our job is dangerous just like any other i have tears in my eyes watching this, nobody deserves this, I have been cleaning 16 years and this is probably the worst i have heard about, i really hope everything goes well for Jason and his family. We need a national awareness course for window cleaners & those using pole fed products.. because this could happen to any of us at any time..
After a few years of hearing, I look up and distinguish between phone and power. Another good vid, never get complacent.❤ BTW don't go near any lines, risk assessment just for your own health. God bless him and family.
Dave, this is a sad story and this could happen to any window cleaner. Is it away Dave that we can support this family by getting all the window cleaners together in the UK? And pump a load the money into his bank account. I know this can be done. And I know as windy cleaners will stick together. Thank. You dave
Horrific, I've done these types of jobs for years and never given this kind of accident a thought im so thankful that I have not had anything as catastrophic as this happen and touch wood it won't but i will be alot more aware from now on.
Water, carbon and electricity and quite often not the smartest cookies in jar is just about the perfect accident waiting to happen. Even my solar array puts out a theoretic 1000V DC.
It depends on a lot of different variables like the pressure of the flow, the type of jets and the wind but I have defiantly seen mist in the air from of a water fed pole

Jesus Christ mate, must have been terrifying. Hope you are ok.
Thanks for sharing Shaun. It really highlights the dangers of hitting an overhead cables.
I hope you weren’t hurt

I wonder if wearing rubber gloves help in situations like this? Does anyone know if it does?
Does wearing rubber gloves prevent these type of accidents?

I do think most of them know the issues and its being discussed
“Dad, how can we stop this from happening to other people?” Whilst being wheeled into surgery. Brave and righteous 💪🏻🙏🏻
Absolutely. That's spirit and I pray and hope he gets better and leads a good life with his family regardless of this tremendous injury.

Where did you buy this item? I think at this point all window cleaners should invest in that
Surely it’s not rated to 33kv
Thoughts to Jason and his family, well done Dave for raising awareness and your generosity ❤

wow! sorry to hear this happened, is Jason a bro?
No just a really nice guy
☑️
How many volts did he have go though him? So sad!
WFP's don't spray mist, he must have squirted or touched the cable with a direct jet of water or the pole itself. That's how they work
It depends on a lot of different variables like the pressure of the flow, the type of jets and the wind but I have defiantly seen mist in the air from of a water fed pole
