    As an engineer that has worked in China...the supply chain is leaky and China is so connected with Taiwan and Korea, that they have the ability to get the the high-end chips into China easily. The high end stuff is all over the place, especially in Shenzhen. Remember, they are making computers, iPhones and Teslas in China. There are chips flowing all over the place in and out of the country. It's pretty easy to divert them, or purchase them with a dummy company in another country and then put them on a plane or boat to China. They are extremely resourceful when it comes to stealing technology.

    In the world of the Middle Ages, Elizabethan Theatre had a class of customers who could only afford cheap seats to a play (if they could afford to go at all). They often had the best views because they were standing on the ground near the stage, where seats could not be placed due to the way the theaters had to be built to allow for maximum comfort, protection, and social distancing of the wealthy "patrons." The standing-only area, being on the ground, meant those who occupied them were called "groundlings." Those of you like myself now separated from Peter's newest content now know how you are viewd.

    In my opinion Peter is world class when it comes to geopolitics, but is in the middle of the road internet opinion group when he gets granular talking about current events. In other words, I am fascinated by his broad knowledge of geopolitics, but find his opinions on everyday politics opinionated and biased with no more accuracy than the average internet commenter. People should stick to what they know when they say something to the public. I don't pay any more attention to Peter when he talks about current events than I do when an actor or singer talks about politics. Peter is like someone who is an expert mathemetician in statistics, but then attempts to predict the results of the next flip of a coin.

    • @williamreyes468

      @@williamreyes468 You said "Time is an excellent arbiter of the truth." I concur. Peter is the "Go to" guy when it comes to predicting what will happen over a long period of time. History repeats itself constantly and since Peter knows the cycles of history, he can easily predict what will happen in the long run. His predictions of future events are really statements of inevitable outcomes. It's when he predicts military tactics and strategies in the next few weeks, months, or even years, that I have doubts about his abilities. When he speculates about short periods of time, he's guessing, just like the rest of us.

    TH-cam has the best commenting system and usually has the best comments because there are so many people on the platform and the TH-cam “algorithm” directs people to videos they are likely to comment on. Patreon can’t compete with this and quite frankly the comments are often the best part of anything you find on the Web. If comments are turned off then I will likely not watch. People also like the relative anonymity of TH-cam.

    Long ago I worked at Intel Corporation. One of the sayings of semiconductor products is "die yields are exponential". What that means is as the die (semiconductor circuit) shrinks, the precision in design is so important that there are no defects in the design becomes all important. A 10% error in circuits will result in a 25% or higher defect rate in the completed circuit die, and a 1/4 or more of the wafer is waste. When the original i486 and Pentium CPU wafters were produced, it was not unusual for working chips to be a handful per 8 inch or 12 inch wafer.

    Former ASML boss Peter Wennink says the US-China "chip wars" are mainly ideological in nature, and is warning it will likely take decades for the dispute to play out.
    The Dutch chipmaking equipment biz has been caught in the crossfire of Washington's battle to curb China's technology advances, finding itself under ever increasing restrictions regarding what it can sell into the country and even how it conducts business.
    Wennink, who retired in April after 25 years with the company, made the remarks during an interview with Netherlands-based radio station BNR last weekend.
    He said the clashes between the US and Beijing over computer chips are mainly ideological and not based on substance and practice. This has had an impact on ASML's business, he told the station, with Washington increasingly putting the squeeze on the company's exports to China, which represents its largest market after Taiwan.

    • @Aerrow62
      @Aerrow62 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fubolibs4218 Photonics are far from practical for computing at this time. Any gains in performance is offset by the energy consumption and size. They super bulky. I would not go as far as saying China 'dominates' low end of the chip fabrication. There are plenty of mature facilities that have scale. What China has is a large ecosystem of original equipment. That's one of a kind. But eventually it doesn't matter. At the end, if you can't get sales, all fabs will make losses. Any high-end fab burns $10-15 million dollars a day. Low end ones still burn a few million a day. Fab setup cost are also higher than before for even older nodes. So if you don't have customers locked in with continuous orders, everything falls apart. Most countries are about to realize that "semiconductor national security" will cost them their economy. There was a news that Intel refused to build a fab when they were told that they can only sell in US and Europe. The company said, unless there is a large market that can consume 10 million chips a year, the fab cost will never be recovered. 10nm is not feasible if your customer base is 20 million people. You need a billion customer market for some of these expensive capital manufacturing to be possible.

    My wife says no to sending you money… if you were an LDS Apostle in Utah she would love you and donate money to you. Thanks for your honesty Peter.

    I'd give an opinion but I'd have to pay for you to listen. I refuse to become a lobbyist.

    I love your videos. Yes, I'm too cheap to pay. Not that it's "too much" per se, but that I simply can not practically pay for every channel I enjoy (as so many are shifting that direction). So I'm sure I'll still watch some videos from you, yet I predict (and I definitely could be wrong) that you'll see a sharp drop in viewers. With a week delay, most news stories have been covered in depth by multiple other sources. Leaving you behind the curve and old news by the time you release videos on TH-cam. Perhaps, financially on your side, it's still beneficial to go that route.
