I always think how lucky we have been to have lived with this wonderful Music as a natural part of our lives, and Massive thanks for CD's and recordings etc. Love the Statlers and always will !!
growing up in the 80's I didn't wanna hear the Statler Brothers of course my parents always listened to them but now I am in my 40's & I just can't get enough of the Statlers, & i always enjoyed Lew Dewitt he was one of my favorite of the quartet, too bad he passed on 28 years ago
LOVE this song! LOVE these guys! I'm 14 again......such sweet memories! I have to admit, at the time, I didn't understand the topics they sang.....about love and loss and memories and life itself. As an adult, these are SWEET songs to sing and remember. Thank you for sharing!
I remember a spirited discussion with a DJ/Songwriter friend of mine about The Statler Brothers vs The Oak Ridge Boys. I thought (and still do) the Statlers are a better group than the Oaks. I base that on the blend. The Statlers are a GROUP first and individual singers second. The Oaks are individual singers first and a group second. When you listen to vocal blend, the Statler's voices are just made for each other and completely round out the rough vocal edges. The Oaks almost celebrate the rough edges. Long live the Statler Brothers.
Music, as with any artistic endeavor, is entirely subjective to the listener/viewer. It's impossible to say one is "better", except for your own self. The constant "Statlers vs. Oaks" or "Jimmy vs. Lew" dialogs are really getting tiresome. Why can't people just celebrate the positive and allow each to enjoy what they enjoy?
You are so right. The Statler Brothers (both with Lew and then with Jimmy) are the quintessential GROUP. They also have a great sense of humor. They are still the best group in the history of country music.
Greatest group ever and came from just down the road from you, Gloria. Lou DeWitt was a great guitar player and doesn't get near the credit he deserves. Thanks for posting, Gloria. Mel. PS, your big night is coming up. Enjoy.
Don was the main lead singer and the youngest but Lewis DeWitt was the unofficial leader of the group and the musical director. Of the four Lew was the most talented.
I met Lew once in Virgina years when the Statler Brothers had their 4th of July celebration.. Lew herd my father tell me I was ugly. Lew looked at my me and said "I think you are cute". He gave my dad a look I will never forget
Thank You...I cried the day Lew died...He was very kind to me when we were at a 4th Of July Celebration in Stanton Virgina .. Johnny Cash was holding the celebration

Agreed.
So sad we get old because the Statlers are still the best vocal group ever. Miss you guys.
I get the privilege of seeing them at least once a year or on an occasion a few of them will come to the hometown grill and have breakfast.
They're wit humor and class place the WAY above any artist before or since. They will always be the best
Beautiful blending of voices. Loved every song.
I’m a Bon afield hard rock heavy metal guy but I will always love the Statler Brothers. I grew up listening to them and will continue to do so.

I agree with your analysis.

This has always been one of my very favorite Statler Brothers songs. It's a shame that the album it's from, "The Originals" was never released on CD.

Rare one of Lew on VUDrJohn. so nice to hear him again, Bless Him he suffered a lot and all to soon forgotten. Loved him

Johnny Cash had the Carter Sisters & Statler Brothers on his show. Not bad backing singers! Two quite brilliant groups

His name was Lew, not Lou.
The STATLERS are the best without a doubt. A great way to measure. I believe they were Christians and maybe God just did it that way.
I love country music alot. I love this tribute too.. Who knows the man they're singing about?

Thwy had a very different sound with Lew. I really prefer Jimmy though.
Awesome group. Loves of my musical life, But "gloria boyd" spelled Lew incorrectly. Must not be a true fan or she'd be able to spell Lew.
