  • Prince John the 1st, known as Prince John the worst! He actually was a pretty scummy king, but Disney's movie Robin Hood was not scummy. This was often my favorite Disney movie growing up, because as kids we always changed our minds, and sometimes it was Peter Pan, but it was usually one of the two.
    There are a lot of fun facts, trivia, easter eggs, and bloopers that's in the movie the Robin Hood. I'm sharing most of the ones I know in a video for you here today. I say most because the video is already over 15 minutes long and I'm not gonna Shane Dawson you into an eight hour series to tell you everything I learned about Robin Hood. Just the best parts. What can I say, except your welcome, your welcome. Haha
    On a serious note, I want to use the platform I've been blessed with to bring your attention to World Vision, a non profit organization that's doing amazing things every day all around the world to help people in need. They don't care skin color or gender or belief, they are simply trying to help those in need, and they are doing a great job. You can find out more about World Vision here:

      I had to explain this to my 13 year old when we took him to Disney. He would try to spot the Hidden Mickeys (dont we all?) but everytime there was 3 circles even remotely near one another he would announce he found one. Crazy that I had to tell a kid that and this Disney fanatic didn't know that?

    4:50 Actually, I think by that point, Robin Hood and Little John were friends by then. According to the song that introduced them in the beginning, they were just reminiscing and stuff, like how they first met.
    That log is probably the same log they once fought each other upon first meeting, so they pretty much know better than to fight over it. Just a thought.

    • @soupalex
      @soupalex 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      you're right that rh and lj already knowing each other is in the text, but the bit about the log potentially being the same one they once fought over is apparently just speculation--i really like that interpretation, though! it's smart, plausible, and fits their characters, so it is headcanon now. thanks! :D

    Fun fact: Disney's efforts to save time and money by copying scenes from its previous films did not work _at all._ In fact the animators were rumored to have hated it.
    Every frame still had to be drawn, but they also had to match a reference image, which was actually _more_ time consuming because this mean a frame could be "wrong," and would have to be changed or redone until it was "right."

  • @adamgourley6412

    I think having Sexton Mouse and Little Sister (those are the names of the two mice who live in the church) be mice is also a reference to the saying "as poor as a church mouse". Some voice trivia: Sexton Mouse was voiced by John Fiedler who was the original voice of Piglet and Little Sister was voiced by Barbara Luddy who also voiced Kanga(original voice), Merryweather, Lady in Lady and the Tramp and the mother rabbit in this movie as well. Speaking of voice actors doing different roles, besides Baloo, Phil Harris also voiced Thomas O'Malley in The Aristocats.

    I saw Disney's Robin Hood in the theaters 5 times, in 1973. I was 17 at the time and I bicycled to the theater to spend my hard earned allowance to see it. It was the first movie I ever fell in love with. Having just landed on the adult side of puberty I fell in love with the idea of falling in love and Robin Hood hit all the right buttons. Despite being a big Disney fan I was never aware that Hood had nearly had the wild west treatment. It DOES explain the casting choices in many of the roles, as well as Roger Williams the country singer being the minstrel Alan-A-Dale, and the writer of several of the songs. It still stands as one of my favorite Disney movies, and one of my favorite movies as well.

    I have a few issues with this video:
    1. Those hidden Mickeys are definitely not intentional. I would even argue they don’t even look like mickeys.
    2. 8:36 When Nutsy was backing up the target he wasn’t backing up for Robin Hood’s shot. He was backing up for the sheriff’s.
    3. 1:07 I admit I need to do a bit of research before confirming this, but I think I heard in one documentary that it didn’t really cut down on cost to recycle animation this way. People had to go deep into the archives to get the reference images to then copy and it was a big hassle. Again don’t quote me on that.

    • @Furiora
      @Furiora 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Counter point to number 2: The Croc/Gator announces "For the final shootout, move the target back 30 paces."
      the phase "Shootout" in this context referring to both of the finalist needing to trade shots until one of them pulled ahead.
      Things do get a bit confusing afterward due to the lack of any indication of judging or rules. My own personal headcanon is Prince John went with the honorable path (but only because he was 100% sure that the stalk was Robin Hood) and declared him the winner due to the obvious cheating from the Sheriff; ignoring foul play, both archers would have too fire another shot since both scored a bullseye. Now, I don't have extensive knowledge of archery competitions in this time period so I don't know if splitting another shooters arrow causes it to no longer be valid and we can't even check modern (possibly allowed due to things like happy brithday and badminton) rules because in modern competitions shooters aim at different targets so there is no arrow splitting.

    That reanimation trick didn't actually save any animation effort most of the time. The frame by frame redrawing wasn't really much easier than just animating anew, and was usually worse after you accounted for actually finding original animation materials in the vault that matched what they needed.
    Nobody is quite sure why the Disney producers were so determined to use it.

The Wisconsin State fight song is titled “On Wisconsin” and I love singing along with it every time I watch that scene! I easily picked up on the reused animation from The Jungle Book. And of course I know who Phil Harris was-my parents grew up in that period and my mom loved listening to “Those Were The Days”, a Chicago radio program on Saturdays with host Chuck Schaden and very frequently he would play old Jack Benny programs and of course Phil Harris was his band leader. I also knew him from one of my favorite oldie-but-goodies, a song called “The Thing” which Phil Harris was famous for. I had the sheet music for the song with Phil’s picture on the front and I even performed the song for a variety show called Uncle Phil’s Diner!

    I’m watching Robin Hood and previous Disney films and seeing the similar movements of the characters, but how do you “reuse animation”? The shape of the characters and how they move in a scene might be the same, but you have to put a hat on one of them and change their colouring. How does that work? Did they just Xerox the original drawings and colour them in and add on and then create the new rustic backgrounds? Sorry, I’m not an animator but it seems pretty fascinating, even when done “cheaply.”

    When you talk about the cost of Robin Hood you should make it clear if you're adjusting for inflation. If not then the price would actually be closer to 88 million dollars.
