    Ex-dancer here, lol.
    There are two things that I want to touch on that you mentioned in the video and just in general. Firstly, as far as when you were describing those “small,” pronounced, and sharp movements that make such an impact without the rest of the body moving, especially when they coincide with the music, those are what we call isolations-Michael’s isolations are chef’s kiss worthy, without a doubt.
    The other thing that I wanted to mention is how you are one of only two people that I have seen so far who knew what the midway section where the music cuts out is precisely or at least had a general understanding or were familiar with what the dancers and Michael were doing exactly; you may not have been able to identify what they were doing specifically, but you at least could pull from things that you have seen throughout times in your life while in the performing arts, which is impressive because the vast majority of people who I have seen react to this video develop this “what the hell are they doing” or “wtf am I watching right now” look on their face and are so confused, lmao.
    To give that section a little bit of clarification for whoever is interested, the first thing to note is that that entire specific section of the video is very much a form of improvisation.
    The second aspect to it, especially from a dance perspective/background, is that all of the dancers, including Michael, are feeding off of one another, with Michael as somewhat of the “core” of all of that energy feeding and bouncing off of one another, and moving their bodies however and vocalizing whatever they feel in that moment, which is executed best without much thought or planning put into it-the only “planning,” per se, that I would imagine they would have set into place is how many counts precisely they would flow until Michael is the last one to say, “Annie are you okay,” after the entire group builds up that intensity.
    ❤️✌️🏽

      Not a pro dancer! But did Street Dancing for many years! Also Learnt how to dance, and mimic MJ... I won a dance alike comp, judged by Navi MJ's number 1 impersonator! But I digress! Hahaha!
      When they do that break with the cat on piano etc! They are in Mourning, sorrow, pain , hurt, lost etc! Annie is not ok! They are waiting to hear from her, but no answer! Just my thoughts on it! :D And yes it's a sort of freestyling, creating that mood etc! Very creative and deep! I've always had that blank, what are they doing look... It's quite amusing tbh! Hahaha! Also fun fact! When MJ pulls out the gun. His family didn't like like it and gave him an Ultimatum! Choose our faith (Jehovah witness's and stop music, and not pull out a gun. Or basically we'll abandon you) Guess what MJ chose! :D

    That child that said he taught MJ everything he knows abs started dancing is Brandon Quintin Adams. He played little MJ in The Badder Project (Parady of Michael Jackson's Bad Video where children play the parts of the adults from The Bad Video). Also played in two of Disney's The Mighty Ducks Movies (D1 and D2) and The Sandlot (Paramount Pictures).

    Interestng notes
    >You brought this up as the equivalent of a short film. Well, it actually is. There's an anthology film called "Michael Jackson Moonwalker" and there's a storyline that goes on right before he enters the club and performs Smooth Criminal. And that plot comes back at the tail end of the song, hence the tommy gun scene.
    >Resusci Annie is a doll that's used for medical training to practice CPR training. The trainees ask "Annie are you ok?" and/or "Are you ok Annie?" during the training. Which is what inspired MJ to use those lyrics for his song.

    Some factoids:
    - the part where it all slows down is Michael stopping the song midway to take the viewer by surprise, as they wouldn’t expect such a fast-paced song to just stop. In the BTS footage, he talked about bringing it down to build it up … I guess kind of like the crescendo he mentions in the lyrics.
    - apparently the cat walking across the piano was added several months later when he felt that part just needed something extra.
    - it is based on the film ‘Bandwagon’ and his costume and other elements are direct references to that. As someone else has already said, it was a tribute to Fred Astaire.

  • @jaysworld5378
    @jaysworld5378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    MJ was a fan of Fred Astaire (as any MJ fan knows) and Smooth Criminal had some influences from Fred's movie called, "The Band Wagon". If you watch one of the video's in that movie, you will see the similarities. Wish Fred had lived long enough to see it, I am sure he would have loved it.

  • @DirtPoorWargamer
    @DirtPoorWargamer ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They’re called “isolations”. The reason they can be so effective is because normal people going about their daily lives rarely ever see or do them; our bodies just don’t naturally move that way. Since it’s “unnatural,” it stands out. MJ takes this to a whole other level with his complete mastery of his entire body. Consider one of his signature moves, where he moves his feet quickly under himself, while his waist stays glued in place; there’s a point where both feet are off the floor and his upper body hasn’t budged an inch.

  • @matteodelseta
    @matteodelseta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    "Was Quincy Jones part of this whole production?"
    Yes, he was. The album "Bad" (1987) has been part of a trilogy, along with "Off The Wall" (1979) and "Thriller" (1982) when Michael and Quincy collaborates together. Then they took separate ways for reasons I honestly don't remember...

    If you are curious about how Michael and a few other dancers did the lean in the music video: Underneath the floor are some pegs, which are hidden. Before the lean, the pegs comes up and into the heals of the shoes. The shoes are specially made to have a curve, which allows Michael and a few others to lean. After the lean ends and they stand up straight, the pegs hides back underneath the floor.

    Michael revolucionó la industria del baile, de la música y de los videoclips, para siempre, y su influencia y legado siguen hasta el día de hoy.
