Yes. It's a test flight. If something happens, they want to be able to bail out. In 1994, an A330 test flight crashed during engine loss and autopilot testing, killing the entire crew. If something like that were to happen again, the crew needs to be able to escape the aircraft before it crashes.
they do have but it used to be a joke during the end and after the fall of soviet union , i heard stories from relatives that are hilarious at best but sometimes really scary for nowadays standards
