Thank you! The current model Comtacs have gotten rather unfortunately expensive. You could look at some of the older models of Comtacs available on somewhere like eBay. I was lucky enough to get these Comtac IIIs just before they were discontinued and so got them at a pretty good price. Agreed on the Yaesu, it’s quite nice. I only very recently upgraded from the Baofeng UV-5R myself.
I'm not sure if those two radio models use the same connection method so you'll want to check that. The PTTs are on Disco32.com and the rest of the parts you can find either through Envirosafety or even on eBay. The rest of the cables are compatible with the ComTac Vs.
You could run your comms through a 3.5mm cable to your PTT (if your PTT has that capability), otherwise no, there's no way to convert the earmuffs themselves.
I'd check if the volume got bumped down on the radio itself first. After that, check if all the connections are tight. If that still doesn't fix it then it might be a bad part such as the PTT, cable, or radio itself. What kind of radio are trying to plug in? If you're able to test the radio with a different headset/headphones that'd be a good way to check if there's an issue with the radio itself or with a different part.
I have a dual comm peltor III, well single comm technically sicne one downlead on the right side was cut by the prior owner. However, why dont you want to plug in your mic to the socket port? I found out my comtacs were real but the mic was fake, an MT31 knock off, as there was no peltor embossing on it ( but gentex embossed on the mic portion under the foam interestingly enough). The prior owner used the fake one some how through deployment and had it directly plugged into the left socket and I saw videos of people effortlessly taking the mic out without the mic harness, however in my case it was so stuck i had to use pliers and ended up tearing the black and yellow wires that solder into internal channel of the left side, so I had to resolder it which was a pain in the ass. that being said if I did that correctly my left port should work... however if it doesnt then the right side would be my only option which I dont want to do since thats my dominate shooting side. So I have to get a new mic, and two radios to see if my mic even works, and maybe a Y harness but then id end up having to buy both the right and left Y harness as far as I'm understanding cause of my situation. Is that correct?
I'm not sure how different the dual comm version is from the defenders but at least on these, you can't plug the microphone directly into the socket as it won't work. When I'm not using comms I usually plug the microphone directly in, just to keep the cord retained. I hope you verified that boom microphone was a knockoff because Gentex DOES make a legitimate microphone for Peltors. Kinda painful to think about one getting accidentally destroyed. I would recommend checking with Peltor directly or see if there's other videos on the dual comms as I'm really not that familiar with how different they are compared to this. I don't think you need a Y harness at all on those, but I'm not sure. As for the rest of the parts though, yes, you would need a new mic, two radios, and PTT adapters to test function.

The peltor comtac are on my list but they are quite expensive. Yaesu is a way better choice than Baofeng. As usual great job with the video

Disco 32 amptted PTT to whatever radio you have
I have the ComTac V and want to connect either my FT60 or my FT2D. Will these cables work? Links for them?

I like this set up but I have a pair of axil ear muffs that has a 3.5 jack and no boom mic is there a way to convert it?
