It’s so true what they say.The older you get,the quicker time fly’s.I remember watching this game like it was yesterday.I seem to remember that Arsenal were going after the league, the FA cup and Cup winners Cup, and lost out on all three.Amazing just how much of this old FA cup final footage is surfacing on TH-cam.No complaints...KEEP IT COMING!😸
It was good to see the extra stuff on this video with Michael Aspel and the chats with the players afterwards. I was a West Ham fan in a class full of Arsenal fans as I lived in Islington but was attracted to the claret and blue for some reason. I've just re-watched the whole thing and was great to see again after all these years.
Years later, I had the good fortune to go to Wembley to watch the 1993 FA Cup Semi Final between Spurs and Arsenal. I got to see Paul Allen play live after his heroics at Wembley in 1980 alongside Brooking and Bonds, Lampard, Stewart, Devonshire and the rest of that glorious Hammer 's side.
Absolutely brilliant I was there with younger brother and a mate! First time seeing the build up to the game! My brother left to go to the bathroom 10 minutes into the game! I said you won’t get back in! I never seen him again! Until the car park 😂👍⚒️
Michael Aspel doing his best "dapper" Roger Moore schtick for the lovely ladies. Oh those were the days, charming gentlemen and classy ladies unlike the utter garbage of today in the 2020s.
This is very good footage although slight correction to your title. This is predominantly taken from the BBC's rival programme, ITV's World of Sport. The titles at the very end were from Grandstand though. Watching that back, I wondered if Ian St John lumped a load of money on Arsenal to beat West Ham. For some strange reason, he looked absolutely dejected!
Thank you so much for this! I am West Ham and was watching this in Perth Western Australia as a 15 year old with my brothers and a best mate who was Arsenal. Down here, we missed out on all the pre-match pageantry and colour because the old fart idiot producers at the ABC only chose to cross over to the London coverage when the players were walking out of the tunnel. This is brilliant! Cheers and c'mon you Irons!
SBS used to be worse with their FA Cup coverage - missing Abide with me and national anthems and crossing back to the studio as soon as the trophy was lifted - used to annoy me.
The FA cup finals used be a special occasion in the Gambia particularly in the 80's and 90's and I was there to witness it but nowadays in the UK it's kind of lost its value and people see it as just another game.
Remember everything about this day, my Dad went off to the game and being really jealous. Roasting hot day - as I was the next morning. I was 10 years old and after that nagged the life out of my Dad to take me to a game & that began the longest love affair of my life ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
Can remember this like yesterday, i was just 19, we scored too early But when that went in my feet didn't touch the ground for nearly 5 minutes! It seemed a very long time till final whistle.
West Ham did not win promotion back to Division 1 that season and that same side went on to dominate Division 2 the next season and go up as champions and reach the League Cup Final only to lose to Liverpool in the replay
Interesting question? There is a coin-toss to determine which club gets 'home' dressing room and that takes place some time before the final. I believe Arsenal won that toss and should have had 'home' choice of colours. Arsenal had contested the Final of both 78 (which they lost) and 79 (which they won), and in both those games they played in Yellow/Blue. They had worn Yellow/Blue when they won the double in 71, but lost the cup in 72 wearing their traditional home colours. I guess they decided that Yellow/Blue was lucky.
Paul Allen is 60 years old now, where on earth has the time gone.

Goodness the cup final was such an occasion in those days .. there is still some magic but nothing like it used to be. Fantastic coverage !
When the FA Cup final meant something. You wouldn't move from your seat in front of the tele from 11.00 to 5.30.

Woman at the start is Michelle Rocca, she presented the Eurovision in 1988 in Dublin.
Could hardly understand a word she said in this clip tho.

He spoke with a subtle American twang which was the norm back then for radio DJs and some tv presenters who wanted to sound cool.
Hmmm I dunno. I thought it was a bit Alan Partridge.
3 minutes from final whistle to lifting the cup - my God I miss this simplicity.
Michelle Rocca was an Irish model who married John Devine. Her family owned a tile store Rocca Tiles.

Aspel is such a smoothie
Michael Aspel talking to those wags is truly cringeworthy he would be locked up nowadays.
"prowl around among these attractive ladies" 😱. They really were different times back then lol
@@LeighRichards27 yeah and most stuff sadly has changed for the worse , apart from the above.
Very creepy
Absolutely nonsense viewpoints
Michael Aspel what a sleazeball.😂. A bit like Stuart Hall
Listening to Brian clough doing the game he was great blunt honest
When the FA CUP was great.Nowadays you may as well call it the FFP Cup as the same old cartel teams win it most years
The last time Arsenal lost an FA Cup final at Wembley.
GOOD DAY. NEXT LIKE FROM ME. BAKU CITY
Thatcher was there to try & spoil my viewing pleasure
That Teddy bear was on ebay recently
I'm not an Arsenal fan, but is it me, or does the referee blow up early?!...and just as Arsenal are building up a promising attack too! 🤣
Made up for the foul on Allen by Willie Young!
Young should have been sent off for that challenge on allen like what happened to kevin moran it was way more blatant

Why are both teams wearing their away kits? 🤔

Michael Aspel slithering around. 😂. What a creep

Michael Aspel behaving like a typical lecherous presenting bastard of the 1980s.
Not really tbh
Different times.
Normal bloke. Drop your virtue signalling.
