Agreed. These small-scale productions concentrate on substance vs spectacle ... which is refreshing. This being said, I do have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how well they brought the Dawn Treader to screen. Possibly the most challenging in terms of story arc and flow and amount of material. And I felt Eustace was a good interpretation. He made it feel English, and of that time period, and Michael Apted did bring magicality back with this one.
Yeah, always wondered about that... I've always assumed it was either his bewitched personality momentarily taking over again, or that he was so desperate to be freed that he wasn't thinking his actions through properly
Wow, this actor really did make the enchanted Rilian and the real Rilian seem like two different personalities...maybe that's why they decided to make him all aggressive and crazy.
I encourage everyone to read the book...once you discover the true meaning behind the metaphorical plot, it will bring you to tears. :D :D :D Beautiful truth.
Well in the book, he did make increasingly violent threats against them. I guess he saw the three of them as his last chance to escape and he was so desperate to be free he was almost dangerous.
He was a bit of a loose cannon even before he was put on the chair, to be honest. I agree with you though, desperation can do strange things to people.
The Silver Chair is the focus of the story, and is responsible for the entire plot. It's a fine title. Besides, you know how titles can be sightly misleading sometimes.
I will say, though, that Lucy in the new movie is sweeter, Edmund has fallen further and thus risen higher, Susan's eventual fall in book 7 is better foreshadowed, and Peter is braver and kinglier. I love, LOVE the waterfall scence where Peter stabs the ice.
Notice when Rilian is shouting, there’s an echo going on. It’s lucky the earthmen were out of earshot, otherwise they may have wondered who he was talking to. I’ve always thought it was sheer luck, the way the queen was away on the night Rilian was delivered from his enchantment.
@Galutron I think they figured they had to use the mask so you wouldn't recognize him as Rillian (as we saw him earlier in the series). It's supposed to keep his true identity a surprise. (But yes, it is ugly :)
Rilian’s voice gets weak at certain points during his confinement to the silver chair, also at the end before he’s freed from the vile engine of sorcery. It could be due to the sheer amount of shouting Rilian did, from when Jill, Eustace and Puddleglum first met him. In the book they went upstairs, not downstairs, to be greeted by him.
At 2:17 Rilian says, “The hours are slipping by”. Before that he said, “It is at this hour that I am in my right mind. All the rest of the day I am bewitched”. Surely Rilian was meant to say, “The minutes are slipping by”.
i know just disney have dropped out VDT AND SC are definately being made and if they can find someone to work with them then they will make ALL the films
well they've already (chronicle wise) missed out magicians nephew and horse and his boy, so not sure if they will do anything beyond those four. the other three don't really lend themselves to filming sadly... perhaps last battle could be made, but not a happy book as such...
this is my favorite part too. i really hope they make brand new films of all the books espicially horse and his boy. but not w/ bbc, the quality and everything else isn't that good.
NerdilyDone Not excited and not really necessary. I understand rebooting “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, “His Dark Materials” & “Percy Jackson”, but the first Narnia movie is still good and is still faithful to the book compared to the other book based films I’ve previously mentioned.
I think Jill was contemplating releasing Rilian from the silver chair, hence why she creeps forwards only to be grabbed suddenly by the prince when he breaks a wrist strap! It broke too easily man. A creepy yet laughable taking of liberties with the book, as Rilian was fully bound before being released. If Jill had concentrated that little bit more on the signs, she would have known that the fourth sign was that the knight was the first person they would have met in their travels, who would ask for something to be done in the name of Aslan. Also Puddleglum and Eustace released Rilian with their swords by cutting his cords, Puddleglum didn’t act alone.
In Jill’s defence, Aslan did say to her from the very high mountain in his country, that the signs wouldn’t look in Narnia like he had told them to her from up there. And Aslan knew that the Knight (really Prince Rilian) would be the first person Jill, Eustace and Puddleglum - did Aslan know also that he would become the children’s guide in their quest? - would meet in their travels, albeit riding alongside the Lady of the Green Kirtle. In the book C.S. Lewis mentioned the Knight first, I think to highlight him being the first person they would meet in their travels, but as the Green Lady did all the talking, this fact became somewhat obscured.
Os terrícolas não são nem um pouco parecidos com os do livro....e a bruxa entra com calma e não assustada...e a cadeira não quebra por inteiro..é só umas lascas que saem dela..... :(
What was that all about? Jill advances slowly towards Rilian, he breaks his arm bonds free suddenly and grabs her. Maybe Rilian needed some comfort during his hour of sanity, but it made Jill feel traumatised.
"lie there vile engine of sorcery... Lest your mistress use you upon another victim." yessss

HEY! NO WAY! The music in the series is brilliant! The music in the movie was also wonderful!
the part of the chair that's around his wrists and his neck makes me think of the chair that Kira is stuck to in the Dark Crystal.
Rilian's speech is so epic...I wish I could find it in print
You could... print it.

I agree, it shocks me every time.
Well in the book, he did make increasingly violent threats against them. I guess he saw the three of them as his last chance to escape and he was so desperate to be free he was almost dangerous.
Yes thats why the book was satanic as hell. Literally
He was a bit of a loose cannon even before he was put on the chair, to be honest. I agree with you though, desperation can do strange things to people.
Tom Baker is such a great actor!
I forgot The Doctor was in this story.
The Silver Chair doesn't appear all that much in this story for it to be the title. I thought the same thing about the Goblet of Fire as well.
The Silver Chair is the focus of the story, and is responsible for the entire plot. It's a fine title. Besides, you know how titles can be sightly misleading sometimes.
I like the choice of the tizona sword (I guess designing a sword isn't in the budget like lotr) and I really like that helmet thing he has.
His mask is kick-ass!!!!!!!!!!!!
he loses his helmet and suddenly he's all shmexified

6:45 Holy COW!!!!!

You are definately right considering who the author was. Even if you couldn't pick that up from the story you would know by the author.
At 2:17 Rilian says, “The hours are slipping by”. Before that he said, “It is at this hour that I am in my right mind. All the rest of the day I am bewitched”. Surely Rilian was meant to say, “The minutes are slipping by”.
thank god! i'm excited....but u know they always seen to swerve a great deal from the storyline of the actual book. that wouldn't be cool at all.
His sword must be pretty strong to chop a a chair made of silver
There were 5 slices to cut that chair count. 06:00
Yeah... if only they'd had the technology.... honestly, some of the scenes in that movie would just not have been possible back in the early 90's
It think is faith. Time and time again our three friends had to have faith that everything that Aslan told them was going to work out at the end.
i know just disney have dropped out VDT AND SC are definately being made and if they can find someone to work with them then they will make ALL the films
I count 5 slashes on that silver chair 06:00
when was this on the bbc?
I know it was the prince all the time
He's got Phyllis Dilleritis!
The Disney version isn't due for another 3 or 4 years
well they've already (chronicle wise) missed out magicians nephew and horse and his boy, so not sure if they will do anything beyond those four. the other three don't really lend themselves to filming sadly...

Well, I've heard tell that they're doing something on Netflix.

This be alright as an opera
6:45 sexiness right there

Prince Rilian is so handsome
I agree.

true that
@Galutron indeed xd
YES! like when caspian kissed susan at the end of prince caspian. Just so, SO wrong...
If he lost the beard he'd be hot.
Kenny Loggins is freeeeeeee!
6:36 made in china
disney have dropped out and walden media are in negotiations with fox To film the last films
He looks bad with that mask on.
Ew, what is his deal with Jill?
What was that all about? Jill advances slowly towards Rilian, he breaks his arm bonds free suddenly and grabs her. Maybe Rilian needed some comfort during his hour of sanity, but it made Jill feel traumatised.
@@80sDude990 ... There was nothing unclean about what he did. He was desperate for freedom from his chains.
That's all.
ok, the book is sooo much more better than this. i really hope they make a new movie out if this cuz the bbc version is horiible.
im sorry but i dont agree with you there :P
he looked way better with the helmet on :0)
That queen is very PO'd. I shouldn't wonder.
this is perverted but he sounds like hes pleasuring himself when hes tied to the chair
This be alright as an opera
