Research center develops new variety of jujube that’s sweeter than ever

When picking out jujubes, most shoppers will reach for the ones with glossy green skin. After three years of trials, the Kaoshiung District Agricultural Research and Improvement Station have created a new variety of jujube called the "Zhenmi No. 11 candied jujube." With its coffee-colored skin, this is not your average jujube.The variety is vulnerable to rain, so farmers need to put up protective nets and tend to it with great care. Although most shoppers have never heard of it, this jujube is not only very sweet, but it has a fragrant aroma that makes it an exceptional treat.
