Homelessness is always judged by those who have never experienced it. There are numerous different reasons why people become homeless. Todays society treats homeless like they are 3rd class citizens, talking about fixing the homeless crisis. Its all of our faults. Alot of people on the street are there as a result of todays society lacking empathy for others and only focusing on themselves. We are all connected to one another and the more people who look for someone to blame instead of a way to correct errors, the more lost we will become.

Then in 1994 -95 Big tec moved to SF and my rent shot up overnight to $ 1,200 a month , I couldn't afford to live in SF anylonger and Moved to Portland Oregon. Portland was still reasonable, and didn't have the Violence that they are suffering from now !!!. Before FB, Paypal, Instagram, and Tic Tok, there was still Apple, HP, and Cisco. The affordability of San Fran hasn't been within reach of someone in the lower middle class or below, for many more decades than the last two. Blaming homelessness on Tech is just beyond logic when it wasn't Tech who put in major limiting regulations that made new construction nearly impossible in the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s. It wasn't tech who made energy, utility, and food prices cost more in California than anywhere else in the Nation when California is blessed with oil, natural gas, wind, solar, geothermal, tidal, and just about every other type of energy source known, is blessed with one of, if not the top food producing soil in the US, is blessed with abundant water resources throughout the Sierras and the Pacific Ocean, and yet have regulated themselves out of being able to effectively tap these resources to be the best place in the US instead of the last place. When you make everything in your State cost more, having nothing to do with Tech, and everything to do with ignorant voters, you get issues with poverty that are beyond that of the avg community.

I have lived in SF for over 30 years. Robby is 100% correct! It's all due to the neo-liberal attitude of the SF gov. The math is also wrong. The average wage in SF and Silicon Vally is the highest in US. All due to Tech successes... Like TH-cam. Most of the tech we enjoy (Apple, The PC. FB and TH-cam etc.) was started with capital from investors in the SF Bay Area. Jessica is soooo out of touch with reality.

Robbie is right. Landlords can charge $3000/mo in rent because there is too little housing. Period. A lot of people have roommates in cities like San Francisco. Once more housing comes online, this would help flatten rent prices.

Is it that he nor his kids cannot legally head a charity after being found guilty of stealing money from a children’s cancer charity? The six bankruptcies? The 34 felonies and many indictments? Is it that he speaks ill of immigrants, but is okay with marrying them and getting them here under false pretenses? The blatant racism? I mean, what part of this are you looking at and seeing leadership potential?

Whoa, totally agree with Jessica on this one. It's such a lie that rent goes up because of low supply. I've lived in the bay area near brand new massive apartment buildings with tons of empty units (within blocks) and not once did my rent go down, only up, when these new units went up. Thanks for pointing out that landlords will sit on vacant units, holding out for a higher rent! It's absolutely true.

Drug education is completely lacking. It’s only based on ‘fear’ rather than ‘facts’. Drug venters would not be there if there wasn’t costumers / consumers. Most of the issues would take care of themselves if ‘how to be an entrepreneur’ was the main education. Drug education should be on facts in Health class.

Jessica - landlords don't want vacant properties for the tax write-off. They are looking for paper loses to offset other income, but a vacant property on which they have to pay maintenance and huge property taxes isn't just a write-off, it's an outlay of cash. They use depreciation rules to have paper losses yet positive cash flow; negative cash flow will cause them to unload the properties (if they can). In the same vein, Krystal on BP was noting how the selling of properties in SF well below their purchase price was going to cause a banking crisis, but that is not necessarily so. In commercial real estate, you don't buy a property to make money on the gain on the sale like a home - you buy it to make money on the rent. And if you have owned the property for a decent period of time, you have made enough rent to more than offset a loss on the sale, and that loss will provide a write off against other income.

For Jessica: If you have a rental unit and set your prices too high, as you suggest, to where many units are empty... How do you afford to keep the place in business?
It's the most basic rule of business is that you charge as much as your customer can afford... SF tech companies imported a ton of high paid software engineers, which drove up the prices of houses/rentals. Had SF government done nothing, real estate developments could not have afforded to keep creating such high-priced units. Instead, SF gave incentives to developers to build condos for tech workers instead of letting the market handle itself... Because the government wanted to keep growing the Silicon Valley tech boom.
I could go on, but at the end of the day, the problem with people being priced out of real estate markets is largely due to government meddling in the economy.

Permissive policing (no where more prevalent than CA) causes this.
This is an abject failure of the political class of CA. (Optimistically. They are a big fan of riots and Brown Shirts, so who knows.)
