No bullsh1t and dribble =confusion like majority of channels, where I found where just contradicting themselves.. Unlike here where I found it clear n precise …thank you, AMEN 🙏
I liked your line at the end "Drink plenty of water" last week I in in Southeast Wisconsin and the official high last Friday & Saturday was 112 degrees. I didn't even go out and try to do any work in that kind of heat. lol I took 2 days off messed up my schedule but my safety was more important. Also my new friend & colleague I meet at the Illinois Arborist Convention last week. Daniel M. gave you high reviews along with myself. I enjoy what you are teaching people
Here in the South Carolina, we just loosen up the red clay sow the seed and cover with straw and water daily to keep top layer moist enough to keep soil from drying out. No expensive black dirt i.e._ topsoil. Topsoil here in the upstate SC area is long gone. I live on lake Greenwood in Greenwood SC so my property drops 40' over a 375-foot span from front to back. That is why the straw is a must to keep seed and dirt from washing. Timing is crucial to prevent washing from heavy rains.
Time of year is extremely important to guys, like he said check out what agricultural zone you live in. Cool season grass must be sewn in fall of the year if you live in a warmer climate, spring time for warm season grasses with really hot climate. Great vid man, I been spraying yards in NC for many years. Good info.
Can I mix the seed with old grass (weed free ) and lay it? I ain't doing all this. I don't know what the hell they are talking about here. I tilled the soil saved the old dried out grass. I was told it's the best natural product to use. Cant use hay not allowed it blows everywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is simple and intuitive. Thanks! I did this process without watching this video but my question was too rake it not to rake after spreading the seed... Now I know. The alt title to this should be "Seeding Your Lawn With God"
So to summarize, add black soil on top of existing soil, rake in and combine together, level it out, then add seed, lightly rake in seed and lightly water.
up here in Michigan, a light straw covering works wonders on speed up grass growth. A friend of mine seeded his lawn and were he didn;t put staw down , only about half the seed came up.
Nice job Stanley! I like your hard sub- base, while shuffling the surface soils loose and together. And also your seeding technique! I do it the same way as you in my landscaping business. Keep up the nice work! Rob
I just bought a house, and I need to plant grass seeds. I hopped on TH-cam, and while procrastinating I was watching Dragonsball PeePee. Then came here and saw the DBZ figures. Glad my TH-cam algorithm knows who I can trust.
You better get a hold of Andy Whitcomb (Whitcomb Whitetails)(out of Princeton, Mn) he has a lawn seed mix that grows in straight sand. Get a video of that and the lawns he has done. He seeded my house with no black dirt at all. Yes it does take quite a bit of water but definitely worth the cost reduction up front of hauling in black dirt.
Another good trick is to take a spring rake flipped over or bent tines up and pull it through the soil, it gives good seed to soil contact. Also if forced to spring or summer seed spray low dose Drive XLR on the soil prior to seeding it will keep the weeds from germinating or use tupersan. Great video 👍 I had an after thought, depending on your state regulations in order to use the products mentioned in a commercial setting you may need a pesticides lic.
Agree the logic is you have to mix the soil for drainage or it might pool and the root/ seed may rot. This logic applies to alot of growing not just grass crops.
Gotta tell ya! The Thumbnail got me in here lol....I've seeded so much land on our farm it's unbelievable. Dog Days of summer ...tough time for seeds to take hold. As always great video and great info Stan the Dirt Man!
Stan - do you ever blend a fertilizer into the dirt before seeding? Or just keep the top soil and seed watered like you said? Also, do you ever put a covering of straw over the seed? Thanks! Keep doing what you’re doing. Vids are awesome. Learning a lot!
I use a shaker can. I just don’t have that level of control with my hand only I seem to make clumped areas with just my hand. 16 oz can with some holes in the side at the bottom.
Awesome! Great video. One question. When you say, you have to reseed... do you reseed when the grass starts to grow 1-2 inches and add more seed where all the soil is not showing any signs of seed germination?
In the northwest I have not fertilized in 10 years and I only water once per week really deep in the 2 hot months. Plus leave the grass like 4-5 inches long. The weed seeds have a hard time even getting to the soil. The negative is the mild green color instead of dark green.
Thanks Bunches! Getting ready to till/rake our back yard which had been trampled dead by our Dobermans. Good to know on the quantity of seed ( I have obviously been putting down way too much.
Your channel has many talented people. You are very much and explain thing very well. Thanks for that. I have to re do a proper draining around my house because i get water in the basement and the last owner just put mulch arou d to make looks good and some sides are higher and other are lower. What is the proper way to mark the starting point from siding of the house to get ptoper slope ALL THE WAY TO THE back yard? Thanks.
Damn dude, I didn't know you were a local! You must be a transport bc there's definitely no accent. Go Wild. Truly appreciate your insights because here in SW suburbs my acreage is killing me with shade&clay. If you're ever looking for a bizarre property, I've got it!
Top soil like that has weed seed ans rocks. Head to organic recycling center, get lawn soil made from tree and leaf matter. They add sand and compost and blod and bone. Only double the price.
Great video! Learned a lot. Just killed off my overtaken with bent grass lawn here in Michigan. I live on a golf course and have put it off for to long. It's all dead now and I tilled it up and have it mostly raked out and leveled. I think it's to late to seed now because of frost and winter coming and I plan on waiting until Spring to seed. Anything I should do before that time? Any recommendations are welcome!
Awesome video! Question... I can’t seem to find an answer. I live in Southern California, I have a lot of river rocks in my soil. So I have to remove every single rock from the soil or is there a certain size I should not worry about?
Hey Stanley, I have a question. I’m cutting my yard up right now with a stirrup hoe, figured out loosening all the bad grass first went smoother. Came across some tree roots, I live on an slight incline. Enough that I can throw enough dirt to be even with the rest of my yard. Is this a good idea?
Do you recommend germinating seeds, soaking for a few (5-7) days, in lower Fairfield county Connecticut ? Will have to mix the damp germinated soil with dry ingredients...use Peat moss? Fertilizer? Please advise. I have a very bumpy, un-level side lawn as had to dig up yard to install water draining Cultech systems. So, will order about 20 yards of topsoil...I have about 5500 square feet of lawn/yard area that I will resoil and reseed. Further, any need to mix in sand? Lots of rocks, both big and small, in yard....Connecticut tings' 😊 Thanks.
Lawn rookie here...How do you combine the pure black dirt with sand, clay binder (?), Etc.. do you just dump it all on the ground and then combine with your rake?
You guy's are professionals. I'm kind of a June bug. I have been using my old brown clay dirt. Do you in have a video that show's you guy's putting down that good black mud you talked about? Thanks guy's.
If it means anything, I never noticed your keyboard. I was trying to pay close attention to everything you were saying... the procedure for growing grass.I didn’t have a lot of success last spring. I am giving it another shot.
So your telling me I did it all wrong!! Now wonder half of it grew great and half didn’t at all, I dug up a flower bed and grass seeded, the loose part when the bed was is lush and thick, the old part that was dead didn’t grow at all because I apparently didn’t loosen it enough
Problem with SOD is it takes double the watering to take and the majority of the roots are cut at the farm and dies extremelyeasily. People are far better off doing a top quality ground covering with seed and straw
I could use some tips for my yard. Lol I got huge areas where the the grass is all yellowed and basically dead because weeds have taken root and sucked up all the water. I actually planned on tying to rip out the whole area section by section until I get plain dirt and granulated the dirt as much as possible so I can lay down fresh seed. Its currently may 5th Here where I live Stockton California I bought a grass seed called tall fescue not sure if its gonna grow or not. Any ideas tips or tricks? Do you think the seed will work? I figured I should ask an expert. I planed on starting my yard project thursday.
Blane really just wants to get the job done 😂😂
Blane is going to do all the work, and I am just going to film it like a bad action movie! 😉 (Just kidding, thanks for the tips!)
I'll help Blaine get the job done
Believe it. 🤣
lol, his whole mood was like "man come on"
Pro tip:
Add a thin layer of peat moss over the top and it’ll cut your watering down to 1x/day and give you more consistent germination.
Seriously!!!! Or manure at 1/4"
I use light layer manure compost on top of the seeds
No bullsh1t and dribble =confusion like majority of channels, where I found where just contradicting themselves..
Unlike here where I found it clear n precise …thank you, AMEN 🙏
As soon as the boss said it's good, Blaine's hands instantly released the rake.
I liked your line at the end "Drink plenty of water" last week I in in Southeast Wisconsin and the official high last Friday & Saturday was 112 degrees. Thank you Bill, it's nice to have some relief from the heat this week !
@@Dirtmonkey The down side to all this hear is my schedule is messed up and I really want to go golfing instead of working. lol
Well I wasn't gonna subscribe, but then I saw the DragonBall: Z figures in the office and was like "see, now this is a man you can trust."
Facts
Wish more dudes in landscaping were like these guys... just seem cool to work with. Thanks for the vids!
Thanks for watching!

your seeding skills are over "9000" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like to throw the seed. Give it a try and you will be amazed at how evenly it puts it down.
Exactly ! A hand full side arm throw , sends the seed perfectly separated in the areas
Can I mix the seed with old grass (weed free ) and lay it? I ain't doing all this. I don't know what the hell they are talking about here. I tilled the soil saved the old dried out grass. I gave a thumbs up for that great dirt unibrow
So to summarize, add black soil on top of existing soil, rake in and combine together, level it out, then add seed, lightly rake in seed and lightly water.
I like to seed and rake it in and then lightly seed again
Cover with a thin layer of straw or hay will hold moisture throughout the day and give an armor to the soil.

Thanks a lot Rob, much appreciated!
Great Video!! I am seeding and learned some crucial tips!! First lawn renovation is a success!! Thanks for the 📹!!!! Great channel!!
Thanks for the tips I'm getting my yard ready for seeding now in Las Vegas, wish me luck, I'll get back to you in a few weeks.
Best of luck, thanks for watching!
How did it go
How's the draught?
I just bought a house, and I need to plant grass seeds. I hopped on TH-cam, and while procrastinating I was watching Dragonsball PeePee. Then came here and saw the DBZ figures. Glad my TH-cam algorithm knows who I can trust.
I like how he checks himself with his friend Blane.

Well I'll be darned, I grew up in St. Louis Park. Born in Duluth. I knew that you were a good man.
Another good trick is to take a spring rake flipped over or bent tines up and pull it through the soil, it gives good seed to soil contact. Thanks Cory !
Outstanding job gentlemen!!!
Thank you so much
Thanks for this post! Grateful for TH-cam!
This was a great video. It answered all of my questions! Thank u.

3rd landscaping video I've seen today with a Blaine. Blaines love landscaping!
Nice Bucky Badger shirt!
The true measure of a man is the anime he watches. Thank you for this!
🤣👍
dragonballz in the background. love it!
I use a shaker can. I just don’t have that level of control with my hand only I seem to make clumped areas with just my hand. 16 oz can with some holes in the side at the bottom.
Love the DBZ poster!
Excellent! I live in Minnesota the perfect process that I needed!
Glad it was helpful, thanks Ellen !
Did you use a tiller before seeding?
Go Badgers!!!
That is true, seeds do not kill each other
Great video guys
Thanks a lot Temo!
This should have part 2, I wonder what it look like now?
I can get grass to grow into hardclay sand mix all it takes is a bit of grass clippings.
Thats a beautiful end product
Thanks and thanks for watching !!
Good stuff . I am doing my lawn now . Hoping it works ha
Great video brother keep up the awesome work
Hey thanks Thomas, appreciate that!!
The Goku art.. yes 😁
Really good info, thanks!
You look like John Travolta.
Awesome! Great video. One question. When you say, you have to reseed... do you reseed when the grass starts to grow 1-2 inches and add more seed where all the soil is not showing any signs of seed germination?
Starter fertilizer?
Thanks Stan.
No problem Shane, thank you
This is the video i was looking for
Hope you enjoyed it, thank you !
so how are you going to get the cat out now 🤣🤣🤣
Lol
Do you have any advice how to do opposite? Make the grass grow slower? Get rid of weeds from it?
In the northwest I have not fertilized in 10 years and I only water once per week really deep in the 2 hot months. Plus leave the grass like 4-5 inches long. The weed seeds have a hard time even getting to the soil.

Thanks for watching Thomas and hope it helps you out !
I just fill a large empty plastic store-bought spice container (about 32 oz) and use that. It has various hole settings.
Grab a leaf rake and sow it in then over seed. Very important.
$20 will get ya a Scott's wizz. Perfect for small areas. Nice video.
This video is useful 👏👏👏
Glad to hear it, thanks Rebaz!
Thank you!
That keyboard is wild!
8:20 I use a kung-foo inspired technique mostly commonly known as “#DrunkGuyFeedinThemChickens”!

Lol, Great hand technique there with the go pro on 🤪
First things first, get some paper towels & rubbing alcohol. Then turn your keyboard off and clean those keys...lol
And then add the grass seed?
Damn dude, I didn't know you were a local! You must be a transport bc there's definitely no accent. Go Wild. Truly appreciate your insights because here in SW suburbs my acreage is killing me with shade&clay. If you're ever looking for a bizarre property, I've got it!
I wish there was an updated video so see how the lawn turned out 😮!!
I'm so confused. What do you mean by "black soil"? Is that just topsoil and I just add 1/3 sand and 1/3 compost or is black soil something specific?
Lol!!! Black dirt. Get it straight
@@jameschaves5723Rude.
how did you get that ASV RT-78 out after spreading that seed? wouldn't it compact anything it went over?
Top soil like that has weed seed ans rocks. Head to organic recycling center, get lawn soil made from tree and leaf matter. They add sand and compost and blod and bone. Only double the price.

Very informative

Hugo Hernandez just worry about the larger ones? Thanks for the reply

Very nice Jeff I have a question
Are you going to be using something to cover it
Looks like one of your rakes has a little crown on it.
That's because it's royalty.
Could just be a wide angle camera lens, like a gopro
Lawn rookie here...How do you combine the pure black dirt with sand, clay binder (?), Etc.. do you just dump it all on the ground and then combine with your rake?

Will you make a video of you demolishing the closed houses
Why don’t you put straw over top of it to hold the moisture in
Hey you would be awesome at hand puppets you could attract the younger landscapers of the future some to think about
thanks man.
What about hay or straw mulch?
Can you get a clear box to show the levels of how we should do it ? That would be freaking dope !
Came for the ‘fix my lawn’ info, stayed for the DBZ office details.
Thanks for being here and watching Stephan !
nice axe to grind shirt

Do you roll in the seed? Would you add hay? Thanks
When do I add fertilizer?
Is thus seeds are starter fertilizer??
