    Nice breakdown. Amazing how such little bits open up such a chasm out thought.

    I enjoy Scott's music so much because he plays and sounds like every guitarist I've ever want to play like, all in one package. Thanks for sharing.

      I love the way Scott Henderson incorporates a lot of tribute licks & influences into his music. He never ceases to amaze me.

    I love Scott's playing...Been A-maj inspiration on my playing since I was turned on to Fusion. I remember hearing that same note doubling on Holdsworth music as well and thinking that my ears were tricking me. But it was what they were doing and made a lot of sense in how it was used and sounded very cool as well. Thank you for sharing.

      False fingering is a very cool effect. Thanks for tuning in

    Hey, thanks for this. I've loved Scott for 35 years and this is a great breakdown. There's one little detail I'd quibble with, and I'm curious what you think and if I'm missing something. Seems to me he's going from Amin to Ab7 (playing the 5 b7 1 2 and M3 of Ab). I don't hear the D note - the #4 of Ab or the M7 of Eb - so why would you say this comes from Dalt/Ab lydian dominant instead of him just going down a half step and doing a dominant major lick, to get the nice outside sound? Of course he does play the D in the following lick where he's back in Amin, but by then it just sounds like the P4 of A, back in blues/minor pent mode. Curious what you think. Thanks!

      I had the similar thought that it was just a side slip down a half step from Am.

    Trying to continue to learn more and more. Your videos keep me inspired and learning. I recently picked up the book Chord Chemistry, and I'm working on diving deeply into that. This and Jens Larsen videos are working as excellent supplementals.

      @@marbinmusic Love to hear your take on Jimmy Herring's use of chromaticism. All the "learn to play like" videos are pretty badass.

    Is it fair to say that he's thinking of a D altered 7 and not specifically the D7#9? Great video!

    • @marbinmusic
      @marbinmusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes

    • @joelnewton4111
      @joelnewton4111 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me there’s nothing altered about it. It seems like right out of Ab7 (5 b7 1 M2 M3). I don’t think he plays a D note in the outside lick so I’m not sure how D7 comes in to play. Yes, those notes are all in the D altered scale, but they are also just in A mixolydian. I think he just decided to go down a half step and play a major key lick to get a nice outside sound.
